Brief Background:
Eastern Africa workcamps Association (EAWA) is a regional Network founded in 1996 to promote workcamps, youth exchanges, solidarity, peace, and development in Eastern Africa region. The Network was formed out of a conference of organizations that took
place in Kampala in November 1995 in which organizations expressed the need to collaborate and network to enhance regional
co-operation, intercultural exchange and solidarity.
EAWA network therefore facilitates people-driven exchange of information, skills, ideas, experiences, and good practices through mostly workcamps and training workshops. It also promotes intercultural co-operation and understanding among peoples of different cultural backgrounds through linking her members to other workcamp organisations or regional networks.
During her operations, EAWA invests extra emphasis to encouraging and promoting south-south and south-north exchanges to balance
with the current north-south flow of volunteers.
