Description of work:

Beçin Castle is an early Ottoman Castle on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Volunteers will be helping the professional excavation team will take part in unearthing the history, and also will be helping the environmental arrangement and cleaning of the site, maintenance, basic repairing work, and landscaping.

Due to the hot weather in the summer months, excavations usually start at early morning and end between 2 pm and 3 pm. There maybe changes in working program hours. The exact program will be available till the summer season. Due to the hot weather, work starts early in the morning and ends in the afternoon. Precautions such as sun-proof awnings are in place.

You are not expected to be experienced in this archaeological study, where you can witness history up close.

Description of location and leisure:

Many activities await you in Muğla City, a city with full of touristic, historical and natural beauties. This region, full of ancient Greek, Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman heritages that you can visit, is also 45 minutes away from the sea. You can enjoy your free time with the excavation team and volunteers in this region where you can enjoy the sea, sand and sun. Plus, we will have educational workshops for you!

Volunteers can watch the stars on the terrace on dark nights. Breakfasts and dinners will be served at the lodge. Lunches will be served at the house in the excavation area. Volunteers will prepare their meals together with the excavation team.

Description of work:

Discover the unique habitat of the Wadden Sea and get involved in the conservation of the local flora and fauna. Every year since the summer of 2010, an ijgd group has supported nature conservation work in the coastal heathland and you will continue to do so. With a spade and hoe, you can help maintain the coastal heath and protect the native vegetation from being displaced by invasive, fast-spreading plants. By doing this work, you will help to preserve the typical character of the heathland. During your work, you will learn a lot about nature on the island and about the Wadden Sea UNESCO World Heritage Site. You will be guided by expert conservationists.

The project's accompanying environment programme includes a guided bike tour across the island, a guided mudflat hike and a visit to the National Park House with exhibitions, interactive stations and films about the Wadden Sea. Exchange and discussions on climate protection issues and practical nature conservation experiences in your home countries complete this programme.

Description of location and leisure:

Wangerooge is part of the Lower Saxony Wadden Sea National Park and has an amazing flora and fauna. Cars are forbidden, so life on the island will be quiet and ecological. In your free time, you can go swimming and enjoy the summer feeling at the village and the sunset at the beach.

The nearest terminal (train-, bus-, taxi station): Bremen, Hamburg or Hannover. From the main station in Bremen or Hanover you will have to go to Sande (Oldb.); then you will take a bus to Harlesiel and from there the ferry to the island. We would like to invite you to travel as environmentally friendly as possible. If you have the option to go by train, bus, or carshare that can be a great first step for you to become a climate steward.
Meeting Point and Time: From the main stations in Hanover and Bremen, trains depart every hour in the direction of Oldenburg (Oldb.) There you have to change trains and go to Sande (Oldb.). From Sande there is a regional train (Nordwestbahn) to Esens (Ostfriesland). There you change to the bus K1, which goes to Harlesiel Anleger. These flexible connections will give you the opportunity the reach the ferry on time, even if the trains will be delayed. The German railroad office recommends to be at the pier at least one hour before the departure of the ferry. Departure of the ferries on Saturday, 26.7.: 11:00, 12:30, 15:00, 16:30 Depending on how far your journey is, you may have to make an overnight stop (e.g. in a hostel in Hanover, Oldenburg or at the train station in Sande). You meet at the train station at the island and walk together to the accommodation. The ijgd leadership team will pick you up.

You'll be staying in a youth guest house with several-bed rooms and a common living space. On the outside grounds of the building there is a playing ground and a barbecue area. ijgd will hire bikes for you to use on your journey to and from work, as well as for trips around the island. Your meals will be provided by the accommodation and you will take turns in helping out in the kitchen (washing up, laying the table and clearing things away). Vegetarian or vegan meals are possible. Description of the partner organizing/hosting the project:
The Legambiente Geo A.P.S. association was born in Atessa in 1989 thanks to the enthusiasm and the care of a group of young volunteers. Since 35 years our association deals with the improvement of the environmental and cultural quality in our area in order to satisfy the need of participation, cohesiveness, knowledge and identity of people. During the last years we have fighted against waste trade, land consumption, for the Sangro river safeguard and the Val di Sangro evironmental quality. Thanks to our devouted and determined work, we set up the SIC Monte Pallano and Lecceta d’ Isca d’ Archi area. It is a place where environmental and archaeoligical excellences coexist. Legambiente, in this area, manages Casanatura Fontecampana center, a place where people of any age can meet each other and share their love for nature and environment and broaden their knowledges about them through various activities. Since 2017, tanks to volunteers, Legambiente runs the recycling center in Atessa.

Description of work:
Volunteers will work on restoring the paths, eliminating vegetation that has invaded parts of the path and recovering neglected sections, to bring them back to life. In collaboration with a local association, ancient dry stone walls will be recovered, so as not to lose this important testimony declared a world heritage site by UNESCO in 2028.

Archi is a small village (1900 inhabitants), full of suggestive views of the Sangro valley, in the evening the inhabitants love to walk along the streets of the center which are animated especially in August thanks to tourists and visitors.Monte Pallano is a place of enchanting beauty. Its strategic position and the presence of water sources have made it a hub of human settlements, as evidenced by the remains of the ancient Pallanum settlement, the imposing Megalithic Walls, and signs of human presence from the Neolithic to the Hellenistic-Roman period.

Description of the partner organizing/hosting the project:
The workcamp is organized in collaboration with The Valle Sabbia Archaeological Museum and the Gavardo municipality. The museum of Gavardo is founded in 1956 by the Associazione Museo Gruppo Grotte Gavardo, later transferred to the municipality. Housed in a 15th-century building, the Museum offers a broad view of the archaeology of the Valle Sabbia and western Garda area, from the Middle Palaeolithic to the post-Renaissance period. Particular attention is paid to materials from the Bronze Age pile-dwelling settlements of Lucone di Polpenazze, included in the UNESCO site ‘Prehistoric pile-dwelling sites of the Alpine arc’.

Description of work:
Volunteers will be involved in 2 activities type. They will collaborate in the arrangement of archaeological materials and in the restoration of ancient ceramics. The excavation is on a Bronze Age pile dwelling (4000 years ago) in Polpenazze del Garda, a World Heritage List UNESCO site. The second part of the activities will be organize to support the municipality of Gavardo in some renovation and manual work in public space, such us gardening, cleaning of green spaces, waste collection and plogging.

Gavardo is a small Italian municipality in the province of Brescia in Lombardy. It is located in the lower Valle Sabbia, near Lake Garda and an hour away from Brescia. The town is mainly hilly, with some mountains surrounding it. Opportunities to explore the area are planned.

Project: Join the Citrus association's major project and help renovate the Laguépie international welcome center. For over ten years, international volunteers have been building, renovating, imagining, and giving shape to a large-scale project. On the heights of the village of Laguépie, Citrus is a place of sharing and encounters, where young people from all over the world come to contribute to the renovation and fitting-out of the international welcome center. Since 2012, the association's buildings have been in the former hamlet of La Mayounelle: offices, a communal living space and an activity room, all surrounded by fields, a green theater and a vegetable garden. Accompanied by experienced leaders, you'll live at the heart of the association and share daily life with the Citrus team and other volunteers on site.
Work: As part of this project, you'll be helping to build a "self-care" area to complement the facilities already on site. Mainly, you'll be building dry toilets, washbasins, and mirrors for your beauty moments! You'll also develop your DIY spirit by making 99% eco-friendly household products. A great opportunity to try out alternative methods for reducing environmental impact and encouraging more responsible consumption habits. To make the site more welcoming and, above all, to protect certain areas from the summer heat, you'll start creating a shaded area in the garden. You'll also have the chance to get to grips with the garden, its vegetables and herbs, and put your green thumb to good use. Finally, weather permitting, you'll get to grips with low-tech toolmaking, and start making wooden games - the big project that will keep our youngsters busy in July. What better way to stimulate your creativity?

Leisure activities: In the heart of Laguépie (82250)he Aveyron gorges, you'll be able to take advantage of all the possibilities offered by the Tarn-et-Garonne region: swimming in the Viaur river, accessible on foot, visits to medieval villages, kayaking, visits to Albi cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage site. With the support of the animation team, you'll also organize activities and take part in meetings with the local population: international meals, intercultural games, film screenings, traditional festivals, etc.

Project: The Jugendhof Bessunger Forst e.V. is a non-profit children's and youth meeting place and one of the oldest self-managed operations in Germany. Located in the forest on the outskirts of the city of Darmstadt, we maintain the tradition of a learning and recreational place close to nature and life with down-to-earth, resource-saving accommodation. For over forty years, groups of children, youth and adults, families, clubs or political initiatives have come together here and found plenty of space to learn, run around, play, relax, meet, develop or simply be outside and together. On Sundays in spring and summer, we open the ForstLove Café with a colorful musical program. Excursionists, city walkers and fresh air fans can relax here in the green idyll on the large grounds. Our offer is especially aimed at families and people with low incomes, as the appreciation of heterogeneity and diversity is very important to us. Work: Together with members of the association and experts we would like to build a tree house for groups of children. After the introduction to implement the idea, we will start together. We will saw, drill, screw and hammer under expert guidance with professional tools and machines. In parallel, we are going to redesign the outdoor area around the tree, plant native shrubs, expand the deadwood hedge, and do typical gardening on the grounds. Volunteers are also invited to help at the Sunday Café. Do you have a heart for baking cakes or enjoy being behind the counter? Then we look forward to your contribution to share this day together. During your stay there will also be other groups at the Jugendhof, with whom you can sit around the campfire in the evenings and exchange ideas.

Study part: Inhabitants of Jugendhof would like to show you their life style and would like to discuss certain aspects of a life which is mostly self-determined, self-organized and community based. We plan to offer some games for the group as experience how we offer adventure education for kids. Additional info will be provided

Leisure part: The Jugendhof is located at the edge of the Bessunger Forest, which can be easily explored from here. On hot summer days the shady forest offers a good opportunity to cool down and wide open meadows invite you to a relaxed picnic. You can enjoy meetings in a wooden yurt, which was build last year from the international group. If you walk for an hour through the forest and meadows, you can reach a beautiful swimming lake with a small sandy beach. Darmstadt is also very interesting culturally, as it was one of the centers of European Art Nouveau at the beginning of the 20th century. Since 2021, the Mathildenhöhe artists' colony of the city of Darmstadt is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We would like to recommend a visit to the impressive and unique area, including the museum and the Orthodox chapel.

Region: The Jugendhof Bessunger Forst e.V. is located at the edge of the forest between the city of Darmstadt and the village of Roßdorf. The suburban area marks the transition from the Rhine-Main region to the low mountain range Odenwald and is located 30 kilometers south of Frankfurt am Main and 50 kilometers north of the picturesque city of Heidelberg.

Accommodation: Volunteers live in our centrally located self-catering house "Sharewood Lodge". In addition to a spacious kitchen and two bathrooms, there are three bedrooms in the house, each with five beds.

Remarks: After registration, we require a self-declaration in terms of legal protection for children and vulnerable persons. You will need working clothes, rainwear and, if necessary, swimming gear as well as sturdy closed shoes. Since it can get very cold in the forest at night, even in summer, please bring warm clothes and don't forget your sunscreen. Bed linen will be provided by the house. Please bring your own towels.
At the windmill, there will be plenty of time in the evening to sing, dance, play basketball or do a campfire. Therefore, it would be great if you could bring some musical instruments or board games.
There is limited public transport to the windmill. The nearest railway stations is Hildesheim. You will get the contact details of the camp leader a few weeks before the workcamp starts.

The ijgd has been organising volunteer service programmes since 1949. We are an independent, non-profit association for international youth work, a recognised independent youth welfare organisation, and one of the largest and oldest workcamp organisations in Germany. Description of work:

Explore the unique landscape and habitat of the mud flats and contribute to the preservation of the native flora and fauna. Starting from 2010, every year there has been an ijgd group to contribute to the nature conservation works in the coastal heathland and this year is no exception. With spades and hoes, you can help with the cultivation of island biotopes and protect the native vegetation against the displacement by non-native plants to grow very fast. Through your work you will learn a lot about the nature on the island and the UNESCO world heritage wadden sea. You will be instructed and guided by competent nature conservationists.

Description of location and leisure:

Wangerooge is part of the national park Lower Saxony Wadden Sea and has an amazing and unique flora and fauna. Cars are forbidden, so life on the island will be quiet and ecological. In your free time you can go swimming, explore the island by bike, go on a mudflat hiking tour or just enjoy the summer feeling at the village and the sunset at the beach.

The nearest airport: BRE in Bremen,Germany
The nearest terminal (train-, bus-, taxi station): Bremen, Hamburg or Hannover. From the main station in Bremen or Hanover you will have to go to Sande (Oldb.); then you will take a bus to Harlesiel and from there the ferry to the island. Depending on how far your journey is, you may have to make an overnight stop (e.g. in a hostel in Hanover, Oldenburg or at the train station in Sande).

Meeting Point and Time: From the main stations in Hanover and Bremen, trains depart every hour in the direction of Oldenburg (Oldb.) There you have to change trains and go to Sande (Oldb.). From Sande there is a regional train (Nordwestbahn) to Esens (Ostfriesland). There you change to the bus K1, which goes to Harlesiel Anleger. These flexible connections will give you the opportunity the reach the ferry on time, even if the trains will be delayed. The German railroad office recommends to be at the pier at least one hour before the departure of the ferry. Departure of the ferries on Saturday, 29.7.: 10:30 and 18:30 (possibly additional departure times of a smaller ferry) Depending on how far your journey is, you may have to make an overnight stop (e.g. in a hostel in Hanover, Oldenburg or at the train station in Sande). You meet at the train station at the island and walk together to the accommodation. The ijgd leadership team will pick you up.

Description of accommodation and food:

You'll be staying in a youth guest house with several-bed rooms and a common living space. On the outside grounds of the building there is a playing ground and a barbecue area. ijgd will hire bikes for you to use on your journey to and from work, as well as for trips around the island. Your meals will be provided by the accommodation and you will take turns in helping out in the kitchen (washing up, laying the table and clearing things away). Vegetarian or vegan meals are possible. Please indicate any allergies when registering.

Description of the partner organizing/hosting the project:

Voluntary Service of Armenia-Republican Headquarters of Student Brigades (HUJ) was founded in 1965 and is registered as a non-governmental organization. HUJ is a member of the Coordinating Committee of International Voluntary Service (CCIVS) at UNESCO and the Alliance of European Voluntary Service organizations.HUJ organizes volunteer exchanges with partner organizations abroad and holds a database of 3000 volunteers registered in HUJ as of today.The main activities run by HUJ are for and with volunteers, mainly the young people. The regular activities of organization include exchange of volunteers with different organizations, opening international work camps in Armenia, preparation and sending volunteers to different trainings, seminars and work camps abroad, as well as ESC, Weltwaerts and IJFD projects.The essential aims of the organization are to raise the social competences and employability of the youth by organizing activities for national and foreign volunteers in various programs in Armenia (workcamps, training courses, medium and long-term projects) as well as facilitating the participation of local and national volunteers in similar projects abroad; to take care of orphans, children with special needs and socially indigent people by proposing activities to and for them and making them more visible for local, national and international communities.

Description of work:

The major objective of the work camp is to preserve this historical site for the future generations, to keep it in worthy conditions to allow the visitors to be spiritually enriched and to contemplate the beauty and the splendour of this monument.Activities for the volunteers are as follows:Maintenance of the territory - removing the over-grown grass, weeds,National sounds of Zvartnots-learning Armenian national dances, songs,Cultural program-My impressions about World Heritage Power point presentations of the volunteers on their impressions and feelings about the project and plans for the future,Presentation of the countries the volunteers come from, and of the UNESCO World Heritage Objects existing there.The participants will get certificates by the end of the work camp.

Description of location and leisure:

Armenia is called an open-air museum. You will have lots of interesting excursions and visits to historical monuments and museums, which will be organized during the work camp. The excursions to the following sights will be organized upon the decision of the camp and all the visits will be free. The proposed list of the excursions is the following: Echmiadzin Mother Cathedral, Zvartnots Cathedral ruins, Garni Pagan Temple, Geghard Monastery Complex with a program of World Heritage Initiative, Lake Sevan (with a barbecue on the beach). Volunteers will visit Matenadaran-storehouse of ancient manuscripts, Historical Museum of Armenia or National Gallery of Armenia, museum of famous film director S. Parajanov, Vernissage-Armenian big souvenirs market under the open sky.Different games, Armenian dancing and language lessons will be organized in the workcamps.Leisure time for joint workcamps are individual.

Meeting Point and Time: Armenian volunteers of your camp will meet you at the airport in case your arrival time is between 8:00-24:00 and will take you to the camp. If your arrival time is after midnight, you will have to look for a bus to the center of Yerevan or take a taxi to the work camp. After sending your application and being accepted to the work camp, you will soon receive an email from your camp leader, please reply promptly.

Description of accommodation and food:

Guest house on the territory of the Cathedral.Do not worry about sleeping bags, as you will stay in hostels/buildings/cottages of the hosting organizations where you will be provided with beds/mattresses and bedding packs. In Armenian camps you should be disciplined and organized. Making beds and keeping the rooms neat and clean every day is obligatory.Volunteers will prepare the food by themselves. You will taste all kinds of Armenian traditional food, such as dolma, khorovats (barbecue), kiabab, khashlama, incomparable fruits of Ararat Valley - apricots, grapes, peaches, apples, berries etc. and vegetables.

Description of specific requirements: It is very important to bring with you different board games, songbooks, and children s songs to work with children and for using in the performances/concerts which will be organized on the last day of the work camp.During the workcamp volunteers will organize the Intercultural days when each volunteer will present his/her country, so please bring photos and booklets describing your country, recipes of national dishes, products and spices and national songs. You can bring your musical instruments, CDs with your favorite national songs and music and, of course, your high spirit and creativity.
