[Camp Description and Aims]
Following the work that Marca ADL has been developing over the past years on the themes of Climate Change, Sustainability, and wild edible plants, this year we intend to work on these themes together, with greater emphasis on the issue of food and the impact it has on the environment.

Goals:
1) To promote youth participation and involvement in environmental and social issues;
2) To contribute to the conservation of the natural and cultural heritage of Montemor-o-Novo;
3) To promote reflection on sustainable behaviours and to contribute to behavioural change at individual and community levels.
4) To enhance youth participation in the resolution of local and global problems;
5) To make young people aware of the impact that our food choices have on the environment.


[Voluntary Work and Tasks of the Camp]
Activities Plan:
1) Visit local producers
2) Workshop on handcrafted honey production - with the design of candles from beeswax.
3) Nutrition Workshop
4) Workshop on food waste
5) Local gastronomy workshop and Going to the Market - Enhancement of local products and the territory;
6) Collect edible wild species in the field
7) Debates/Conversations about different themes: Food - Local products and wild resources; Traditional trade/Local production vs Supermarkets/Industrial production - We will use non formal education to improve reflexion and team work.
8) Nursery maintenance work: Collection and sorting of seeds of native plants; transplanting plants into pots with greater capacity, watering the mother plants, among other tasks that are relevant to the normal functioning of the plant nursery. In these activities young people will be able to get to know the region's natural areas.
9) Control of invasive alien species that endanger the native biodiversity
10) Activities open to the community - Collection of urban waste, present in watercourses and Vermicomposting workshop – activity related to the circular economy and sustainable daily practices.
11) Cooperative activities and group dynamics - took place throughout the project, so that participants establish interpersonal relationships and reflect on their learning.

The Food & Environment Camp intent to promote in a short, medium and long term changes in individual and community habits, with the goal of creating impact at the local level. Therefore, our approach will aim to generate changes in the behaviour of young people and the community with regard to the choices we make about our food.

[LOCAL HOST]
Marca-ADL is a non-profit association, with headquarters in Montemor-o-Novo, district of Évora. It aims is to promote qualified development of Montemor-o-Novo municipality in particular to support actions in the social & cultural sphere, environmental preservation and enhancement of natural and human heritage, entrepreneurship and support for business creation and quality services. Environmental and heritage concerns were at the root of the creation of the MARCA ADL, that currently has the legal status equivalent to Environmental Non-Governmental Organization ENGO.

The camp will be at Montemor-o-Novo (Évora), a small city in Alentejo region. That is located in a rural área.

[HOW TO GET TO THE MEETING POINT/CAMP?]

Travelling from the Airport to (bus or train)
By plane, you can get to Lisbon or Oporto with fairly reasonable fares proposed by low-cost companies (e.g. Ryanair or easyjet). From there on the best way to reach Montemor-o-Novo will be by bus, with rates ranging from 10 to 20€ (one way). Before arrival, we can provide you useful information on schedules, departure and arrival hours of main transports to Montemor-o-Novo.
From Lisbon Airport:
1. take the metro (red line) at the airport - it's the only metro line;
2. You have to change lines, at the end of the red line – in S. Sebastião - To the blue line towards the Zoo;
3. It's only 2 stops, when you get to the zoo stop, you leave and follow the signs to the bus station.

Travelling by Bus from (Lisbon, Porto or Faro) to the Meeting point
From Lisbon, in the bus station take the bus to Montemor-o-Novo and enjoy the trip of about 1 hour.

Traveling by train from (Lisbon, Porto or Faro) to the Meeting Point
If you travel by train you will need to take a bus that drops you off at the Montemor-o-Novo Bus Station.
Pay attention that in Évora the bus station is 36 minutes far from the train station, by walking. In Vendas Novas it is 8 minuts far, but you do not have so many bus schedules.

The participants will be accommodated in Rural Tourism (Burriscas - https://www.facebook.com/burriscas/) which is located 3 km from Montemor-o-Novo; There the participants can cook breakfast and snacks; Lunch and dinner will be cooked by the Montemor-o-Novo school, and delivered to Tourism during the week, on the weekend participants have to cook lunch and dinner. Participants are responsible for cleaning the common areas (kitchen and bathroom).

ACDR - Associação Cultural Desportiva e Recreativa de Freixo de Numão – ACDR – Freixo de Numão Cultural Sportive and Recreational Association is a youth association which main objectives are protecting and promoting region cultural patrimony.
The objective of this program is to give continuity to an archeological research project and the desire to turn the archeological place into a museum that has been developed since 1980 with the permanent support of this association and the Portuguese Youth Institute.

Objectives
- continue the excavation work that has been going on for over twenty years with the aim of musealization the archaeological site with prehistoric, Roman and medieval remains

Tasks and activities (work)
- archaeological excavations guided by an archaeologist collecting different elements (coals, seeds, bones …) for analysis; Materials washing and labeling.
-During the camp volunteers will work no longer than 6h/day.

Meeting point (day, time, period and place)
We wait participants to arrive the 3 of August, during the day, to Centro de Juventude da ACDR Freixo de Numão (Stadium). It would be great if you could inform us in advance about your arrival prevision.

Volunteers will be accommodated at ACDR Youth Centre, composed of 2 dormitories and 8 rooms. Meals will be served in the youth centre restaurant.

Partner: This project is organized in cooperation with Solovki State Historical and Architectural Museum-Reserve, which is well-known due to Solovetsky Monastery. Since 15th century Solovetsky Archipelago with its monastery was a religious citadel in the Russian North before being closed by Soviet government in 1920 and turned into a special Soviet prison and labour camp (1926–1939), the Gulag, - for some people the site still reminds of this horrible period in USSR history, a symbol of Stalin’s repressions.

Work: The project aims at assisting in preservation of the World Heritage site by doing environmental physical work at the Botanical Garden that is a part of the Solovki heritage. Volunteers themselves will learn about history and uniqueness of the Solovetsky Islands Ensemble and help enrich biodiversity of the Islands’ ecosystem. During the project volunteers will work at the Botanical Garden founded by the monks in 1822, namely: digging ditches, plant, weed and fertilize trees, herbs and flowers of cultural and historical significance (more on that will be provided in the information list). Additionally, international volunteers are welcome to organise raising awareness activities on the importance of heritage preservation among locals, tourists and visitors.

Summary: Volunteers have an opportunity to take part in a volunteering project at a UNESCO World Heritage site, visit magnificent Solovetsky Archipelago, work at the monastery garden, learn about the history of the place, see white whales and so on!

Location: Solovetsky Archipelago, Arkhangelsky region, Russian Federation

Location & Leisure: The Solovetsky archipelago comprises of six islands in the western part of the White Sea less then 100 miles south of the Arctic Circle. They have been inhabited since the 5th century B.C. and important traces of human presence from as far back as the 5th millennium B.C. can be found there. Since 15th century Solovetsky Archipelago with its monastery was a religious citadel of the Russian North, there are several churches dating back to 16th-19th century.

Airport, train/bus station: Nearest terminal is Kem, a small town in Karelia. It takes 2 hours to travel from Kem to the island by boat. Volunteers should arrive in Saint-Petersburg. Meeting point will be on the afternoon of
7th of August in Saint-Petersburg, then participants will go together with camp-leaders to Kem by train (it takes 16 hours), then by boat to the island. The 20th of August is the departure day from the island itself. It means volunteers will arrive back to Saint-Petersburg on 21st August, thus please consider departure from Saint-Petersburg to your home country no earlier than on 21st August.

Accommodation & Food: Volunteers will live in tents in a well-equipped camping of the garden. Food will be provided; volunteers will cook by themselves as a group: every day we will have a cooking team, which will cook on the fire; products will be provided. Please, bring your sleeping bag!

Requirements: Volunteers are going to live on the campsite of the Botanical Garden. There you’ll need some regular clothes for work and rest. But as soon as we decide to have an excursion and visit some monastery or church you will have to follow the rules of the place. Girls should wear long skirts, which should cover their knees. Their heads should be also covered by headscarf or something like this, also your arms should be covered with long sleeves. Boys shouldn’t wear T-shirts and shorts in the monastery, their legs and arms should be covered. They don’t have to cover their head while visiting church.

The camp project is supervised by a steering group including:
• The Association of people from the island of Mandø
• Wadden Sea National Park
• The Municipality of Esbjerg
• The Danish Agency for Nature
• The Danish Fund for Nature.

The Wadden Sea National Park was established in 2010 and is Denmark's biggest national park (1459 km2). The aim is to conserve, protect and strengthen the natural and cultural-historical values of the area and support a sustainable development, which can be beneficial for guests, local development and the local population. The Wadden Sea National Park is born into the trilateral collaboration with Denmark, Germany and Netherlands to protect the Wadden Sea.
The Wadden Sea is also UNESCO World Heritage – world heritage shared between Denmark, Germany and Netherlands - stretching over 500 km from Ho (Denmark) in the north to Den Helder (Netherlands) in the south.

The island of Mandø (8 km2) is located in the middle of the Wadden Sea in Denmark and the highest point (the dunes) is 12 m above the sea. It is a unique island with 30 local inhabitants and some tourists, mainly day-trippers, during summer, autumn and spring.
There are no bridges or ferries to the island, instead, you can drive by bicycle, car or tractor two times a day, when the tide is right.

People on Mandø are very active. They live in the village of Mandø and have organized themselves into local associations which aim for protecting the natural and cultural values of the island of Mandø as well securing workplaces, setting up local events and activities for the local population, visitors and tourists. On the island of Mandø, you will find a café, a bed & breakfast, a (small) camping site, an inn, a small hostel, some summer bungalows, a few farms, a church, a museum, a small grocery and open, friendly people, who are used to do things together and help each other. You can walk around the island in 1,5-2 hours.

The job consists of different activities:

• To cut down and remove bushes and smaller trees on the island (camping site, dykes, fields etc)
• To collect garbage on the dykes and on land
• To assist the local association to clean up the first floor on Brugsen (small grocery store) and prepare it for renovation
• And if time is right, depends on the weather, to post signs along routes and paths around the island

The job is mainly outside in all kinds of weather.

The Island of Mandø is located in the middle of the National Park, with great walks, opportunities to see millions of birds, seals and unique nature. Oyster banks are found here and there. You are living next to fields with sheep and cows and nature-friendly agriculture. People have lived here since the 12th century and traditions, history and local culture is strong.

Kayaking, hiking, bathing is possible. Bring your own gear.

A guided trip to Ribe, Denmark's oldest royal town, and Wadden Sea Centre will be arranged. The Warden Sea Center is internationally rewarded for exceptional design interpretation of the Wadden Sea. Check out the centre here: www.vadehavscentret.dk

If the camp volunteers are in the mood for this, a barbecue evening will be arranged together with the local people of Mandø who are very open and friendly.

The nearest train station is Ribe train station. Be aware that it might be cheaper to fly to Copenhagen Airport.
When arriving in either Billund Airport or Copenhagen Airport, you will have to take a bus or a regional train to Ribe train station. It takes approximately 2,5 hours from Billund and 5 hours from Copenhagen to get to Ribe.

Meeting point and Time:
The meeting point is at Ribe Train station, but the exact pick-up time to be confirmed, as it depends on the tide. After 17.30, but no later than 21.00. Notice that the tide is low in this period of the day and later arrivals are not possible.

Sleeping facilities:
Modern/new cabins at the camping site with living room and 6 beds in each cabin – 4 beds in one room, 2 beds in another room. Bring your own sleeping bag and towel. Kitchen + bathroom facilities:
Next to the two cabins, there are bathrooms and toilets facilities. There is also access to the laundry machine.
You will cook your own food together with the other participants in the cabin. The camp leaders will organise some cooking teams.

Bring practical clothing; some days in August can be a little cold and rainy.

The spectacular Stevns Klint was admitted to the UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2014 due to the sites geological characteristics. Stevns Klint is the best place in the world to see tracks from when the Earth was hit by a meteor, and over half of all species became extinct - including the dinosaurs. Thus Stevns Klint is not only a special place for research, but also an important place for the dissemination of Earth and life history. Stevns Klint was last year visited by more than 115.000 visitors.

Stevns is a peninsula bounded by the Baltic Sea. The steep cliffs of chalk and limestone rises up to 40 meters above sea level on a stretch of over 16 kilometers. During the Cold War Stevns played an important role as NATO's strategic outpost to the east. Several military facilities are now available to the public - including the significant 'Stevns Fortress' with underground listenings installations.

And then Stevns is a mecca for birdwatchers, who come to Stevns to see the millions of migratory birds who each year passes over the area.

An important task is to protect and safeguard The World Heritage against overgrowing, and make sure the public will have access along the cliff and to the spectacular view.

The work consists of cutting the shrubs and keeping the tree growth down, collect garbage and clean up the coastline on a selected stretch - all work in the fresh air and with a stunning view.

Different activities will be arranged during the weekends. You will among other get a free tour in the area and visit the `Stevns Fortress from the Cold War. The Work Camp will give you a unique insight to one of the World Heritages and a fantastic experience together with other young people from around the world.

It is possible to walk along the path to explore 'Holtug Kridtbrud', do bird watching and see rare plants. In the weekend there will be organized various activities.

The island of Norderney is located in the Wadden Sea National Park in Lower Saxony, which is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The youth campsite is located four kilometers from the town centre, surrounded by dunes between the Wadden Sea and the open North Sea. School trips, tent-free days, and special activities for children and young people all take place here, organised by the youth welfare association of the Aurich district. During the summer holidays, over 200 children spend their free-time on this campsite. The campsite needs to be repaired in preparation for the summer season. You can test your technical skills by setting up a basketball court, repairing wooden paths and building tents for the summer camp.
Additional note on accommodation: You will be staying in 6-bed wooden huts. The huts are near to the large multipurpose building fitted with washrooms, toilets, seminar rooms etc. Your accommodation is located in the middle of the dunes on Norderney island.

Description. The idea of the event is as following: international exchange; educational activities; interest in other cultures; tolerance to different nationalities, religions, races; Learning foreign languages; training young people to be leaders, to have an active life position.
Irkutsk is a multinational region within the Russian Federation. Volunteers will have the opportunity to visit the unique architecture and ethnographic museum “Angarsk village”, visit the world-famous Bratsk hydroelectric station, visit the world heritage - Lake Baikal.

Work
Volunteers will work on the improvement of the area of scientific research on forestry (cleaning branches, cutting down shabby trunks, planting seedlings, simple repair of laboratory facilities).
Volunteers will also take part in the daily life of the camp (various cultural, sports and linguistic, gaming activities).

The camp is located in Russia, in the Irkutsk region on the beautiful island of Bornin, located on the Angara River - the only river flowing out of Lake Baikal.
The meeting point is at the station “Padunskie porogi” and at the airport Bratsk. Every international volunteer will be met by local volunteers. They will move to the camp together.

The products of local farms will be used for cooking: beef, lamb, pork, milk, butter, cheese, sour cream, yogurt, fish, seasonal vegetables and fruits, as well as vegetables grown at the workcamp.
Meals are provided in the summer kitchen of the camp, outdoors, it is prepared by volunteers.
On the island there is a two-story log house. Rooms of three types: male, female, mixed. Sleeping bags are not needed. Please bring your own towels. Due to the fact that there is no Wi-Fi, the Internet is not available. In the city you can purchase a SIM card from a Russian telephone operator with unlimited Internet.

The working language is English, Russian will be very useful for communication with the locals. You will also have the opportunity to teach other volunteers your own language.

Free time
In free time, various activities will be held: fishing, swimming in the Angara, sailing yachts, visiting night clubs, excursions to ethnographic museums and important objects of the city, taiga walks, picking up mushrooms and berries.
On some of the days, a rock concert by local cover bands, artistes' artists, a concert of children's musical ensembles and theater groups will be held on the island. If the volunteer is good at singing or dancing , or has any special talents, he/she is welcomed to take part in the concert.
A free day is provided once a week when the volunteers can go to the city, see the sights or stay in the camp and relax in nature.

ORGANIZATION

Nature Agency administer a large part of the world heritage area and the national park, including the wide beaches on the island Rømø, which is the goal of your stay.

WORK
The job is to collect garbage on the beach and beach meadows. The waste must then be sorted and brought to recycling. Every year a lot of of garbage, including a lot of plastic, comes with the waves and ends up on the beautiful beaches at Romoe. The locals and professional organisations already clean the beach, and you will help them, so that the beach can stay beautiful and can be used for all the beach activities. The work will be 4-5 hours a day, all weekdays. You will get the weekend off.

There will be guided tours to the Wadden Sea. In your free time you can spend time at the beach. The island is small and has some beautiful, unique nature. The Wadden sea, the area in which the island is, is on the UNESCO world heritage list. The tidal water, the wind a the waves create a quniqe landsacpe, like no other place. During the summer time a lot of turist visit the island. Rømø has a lot to offer turist including activities such as kayaking, windsurfing, kitesurfing, hiking, bird watching.

The Work Camp will live in a scout cabin a little bit outside the town. There are two large bedrooms with mattresses on the floor - bring your own sleeping bag, pillow etc.

Kitchen, bathroom and washing machine facilities are in the scout cabin.
You will need to do the cooking yourself. You will do groceries together with the other work camp participants in the local grocery store.
The house you will be staying in is located in the town of Kongsmark, where there are shopping opportunities.

Bring practical clothing; some days in June can be a little cold and rainy.
English will be the only language spoken. All participants must be willing to speak English, even though being from the same country or having troubles with the English language. Try your best!

In the heart of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region volcanoes' chain, classified UNESCO World Heritage, volunteers have been working, for 15 years now, every summer, to restore and maintain Murat's territory heritage (Pays de Murat), using traditional and ancestral techniques.

You will participate to save and enhance built and natural heritage (dry stone walls) on this territory, all around the Saint-Antoine Chapel, classified as a Historical Monument.

Pays de Murat is a community of cities located in the Cantal, a wonderfull french departement in the region of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. It is a beautiful region of medium mountains (around 1000m high), with wonderful views on the volcanoes and mounts of Auvergne. The small rural villages are full of houses with typical stone roofs and wooden/stone walls. The villages have a very rich built heritage (bread ovens, chapels, castles). This region is the perfect place to go for a hike in the mountains, by foot, by bike, for practicing canoe, swimming in the lakes, according to what the leading team and the weather can propose. The leaders will prepare games and entertainment, but you will be invited to propose and organise your own activites according to your ideas and wishes, so bring your creativity!

Accommodation is in tents (2 people per tent) in a local camping. There is a bigger tent hosting the kitchen and dining tables. Volunteers will manage the tasks of daily life in teams (shopping, cooking, cleaning), toilets and showers are in a recent building on the camping site.
There is a wifi access at the entrance of the camping. Please note that the telephone network is quite low.

Description of work:

The major objective of the workcamp is to preserve this historical site for the future generations, to keep it in worthy conditions to allow the visitors to be spiritually enriched and to contemplate the beauty and the splendour of this monument, to support the staff of the Museum of the Zvartnots Cathedral in matters of maintaining the territory and fulfilling different types of work necessary in the particular moment.Activities for the volunteers are as follows:-Maintenance of the territory - removing the over-grown grass, weeds.-National sounds of Zvartnots-learning Armenian national dances, songs.-Cultural program-My impressions about World Heritage.Power point presentations of the volunteers on their impressions and feelings about the project and plans for the future.-Presentation of the countries the volunteers come from, and of the UNESCO World Heritage Objects existing there.

The nearest airport: EVN in Erevan (Yerevan),Armenia

Guest house on the territory of the Cathedral.Do not worry about sleeping bags, as you will stay in buildings/cottages of the hosting organizations where you will be provided with beds/mattresses and bedding packs. In Armenian camps you should be disciplined and organized. Making beds and keeping the rooms neat and clean every day is obligatory.Volunteers will prepare the food by themselves. You will taste all kinds of Armenian traditional food, such as dolma, khorovats (barbecue), kiabab, khashlama, incomparable fruits of Ararat Valley - apricots, grapes, peaches, apples, berries etc. and vegetables.

Description of specific requirements: During the workcamp volunteers will organize the Intercultural day when each volunteer will present his/her country, so please bring photos and booklets describing your country, recipes of national dishes, products and spices to prepare it and national songs. You can bring your music instruments, CDs with your favorite national songs and music and, of course, your high spirit and your creativity.
