Description of the partner organizing/hosting the project:
‘The whispers of forest’ is a two-week artistic project with kids and youngsters from a small village in central Poland. This will be the second edition of the theatrical project in that village after the previous one in 2017 called ‘Flows’ (more information available on facebook: Lato w Teatrze Zambski Kościelne’). This year we are going to focus on the topic on nearby forests to find their hidden secrets. As a group of pedagogs we believe in the power of alternative education. By exploring local surroundings, we want to show vast opportunities which are available for our participants in their vicinity and encourage them to look at the areas as they have never seen them before. We truly believe that by relying on kids’ innate interest in discovering things, will to learn and cooperate with others we can enhance their learning abilities and support their self-confidence. During two-week work we are going to explore local surroundings to find inspirations and ideas which can be used to create a final performance showing kids’ own projection of forest. The work will be divided into 5 groups: I. Forest kindergarten - for the youngest kids II. Forest editorial office - documentation and promotion of the project III. Theatrical group IV. Description of work:
During the two weeks, the tasks in which we need help from our volunteers will include: - taking care of participants of our project during the breaks (there will be one long break during a day which requires organisation of some games and activities for kids) - delivering food from the local shop each morning of the project and serving lunch during a long break; - taking care of the participants in the bus which will transport them to and from workshops; - helping with making scenography, building infrastructure in the forest where we are going to work and perform our final show; - preparation before the final show; - cleaning after the project. We will also encourage our volunteers to come up with their own ideas to make the project better and do our best to help them come true.

The project takes place in Zambski Kościlene. It is a small village in central Poland by the river Narew. The beautiful surroundings of the village and the fact that it is not far from Warsaw (1,5 hour-drive) are the reasons why there is a huge number of people who spend their holidays there. Consequently, there are two communities living together in such a small village during the sum-mer time. Zambski Kościelne can offer various activities for hikers, cyclist and all of those who appreciate the beauty of nature. There are a lot of walking and cycling paths in nearby forests and water activities like canoeing or water bikes are also available. Summer evenings can be spent by the river bank around a campfire sharing stories with friends or watching stars which are easily visible in the sky during the night. For those who want to visit some other places in Poland, there are two options available. One of them is a short visit to Pułtusk, 15 km from Zambski Kościelne. It is a rather small town and seems to be a ‘nothing special one’ when, you drive through it. Surprisingly, it hides a real treasure inside which is the old part of the town. You can find the longest market in Europe surrounded by picturesque buildings there and a castle located by the river. The other option is a one-day trip to the capital of Poland - Warsaw, easily reached from Pułtusk by bus.

The volunteers will get a place to sleep at a primary school in the village where the workshops for the kids will also take place. They will be allowed to use one of the classrooms, the kitchen and toilets. However, there are no showers at school, and the volunteers will have to go to the nearby parish house (300m) to take a shower. The volunteer’s room will be fitted with gym mattresses on the floor so it is necessary for them to take their own sleeping bags or blankets and pillows. There will also be a lot of space outside if anyone is willing to put up a tent. Some of the workcamp participants are going to be designated to prepare meals for everyone from the provided ingredients, everyday. Ingredients for vegetarian and vegan (if requested) diet will be also available.

We are looking for open-minded, creative and easygoing people who are able to adjust to dynamic work which requires a lot of positive energy, thinking outside the box and hard work. The most important matter for us is to work with people who are eager to follow children’s ideas and their interests. Since we are going to work with kids and youngsters possessing police certificate is essential however, having pedagogy background will be a big advantage but, it is not necessary. Manual skills will also be highly valued, when it comes to making decorations and scenography for the final performance. Proper knowledge of using tools will be also a huge advantage as we are going to build shacks and other constructions in the forest.
