Work: Every year WF Iceland hosts hundreds of international volunteers participating in projects all around the island. WF Iceland publishes a magazine called UNA, where people can read about the life of the organisation http://wf.is/news/
In the beginning of the project, volunteers will receive an introduction about the tasks - afterwards we will choose a topic for the magazine. This is a great opportunity to get to know Reykjavik and the area around it in a different way. The group will take photos, create videos and conduct interviews with volunteers, local hosts and people living in the area. The outcome will be published in the UNA WF magazine.
The volunteers will also document the work of the association in all the camps running throughout the same period with a photo-reportage and they will publish it on WF social media such as Facebook and Instagram.
At the end of the project, we will prepare the final version of the magazine and publish it online.

    ● 위치

Project location: Reykjavik is a city full of energy, just waiting for you to experience it. Powered by heat from the earth below, with ever-changing weather sweeping across the landscape, its natural features are matched by the energy of its residents. Think of the denominators of a great city - fun, culture, nature, clean air - Reykjavik has them in spades. All the advantages of a modern, forward-looking society are complemented by the beautiful natural setting. In a country of only just over 330,000 people, the Reykjavik Capital Area has a population of about 200,000. However, since it’s the only major city in the country, Reykjavik has a lot of the amenities that you would only expect to find in a much larger center elsewhere in the world.

Reykjavik is the world’s northernmost capital city and is centred on the Seltjarnarnes Peninsula. Come at the right time of year, and in favourable conditions you will see the city’s skyline silhouetted against the glowing, shimmering curtain of the aurora borealis, also known as the northern lights. Reykjavik is framed by the majestic Mt. Esja and the blue waters of Faxafloi Bay to the north, while rugged lava-fields spread to the southeast. On a clear sunny day, the Snaefellsjökull glacier glitters on the western horizon like a crystal.

Terminal: Flights arrive at Keflavik International Airport (KEF), just south of Reykjavik. The meeting point is at 08.30 am at the first day of the camp in Tjarnargata 11 which is the city hall of Reykjavik

    ● 숙박

Accommodation and food: Worldwide Friends volunteers will be staying in our house in Sveinsstadir, which is located on the outskirts of Reykjavik. This place is like a farm in the city, so you can enjoy pure nature and the city life of the capital at the same time. Volunteers need to bring their own sleeping bags and towels, but beds/mattresses and bed sheets are provided. Wireless internet access is provided free of charge.

Food is included for the duration of the workcamp, however, everyone is expected to do their fair share of the cooking and cleaning. Since it is always nice to try new and different dishes, volunteers are encouraged to bring along their favourite recipes (and spices) from home!

SEEDS Volunteers will be working close to the main skiing area of the capital region of Iceland, Bláfjöll or the Blue Mountains. The aim of the project is to protect the environment and avoid different trails being created from increasing traffic of hikers and nature lovers in the area.

The main task will be maintaining a hiking path in an area called Þríhnúkagígur or Three Peaks Crater, which is a dormant volcano that last erupted over 4000 years ago. Other tasks may be to mark and control areas where the visitors are not allowed to walk in order to protect the surroundings of unnecessary passage and harm. Sports associations who run some of the skiing lodges might also need some maintenance, such as painting and/or cleaning in the surrounding area.

No previous experience is necessary but the work is demanding and might require a good physical condition; it can at times be repetitive but always rewarding. As it is outdoors work, volunteers shall be ready to adapt and be flexible with the working and free-time schedule, as depending on the weather, we may not be able to perform some of the tasks or activities planned. The working plan will depend on the needs of our local host, the advance of the diverse projects in the area and of course on the weather conditions.

Volunteers need to be motivated to work mainly outdoors on physical jobs and under changeable weather.

Bring warm under-layers, waterproofs, walking shoes/boots, a good sleeping bag, hat, scarves and gloves.

The camp happens around the summer solstice, when the sun hardly sets and the nights are almost as bright as the days. The bright nights are magical and staying awake enjoying the beautiful surroundings is a unique experience. During the time of the camp participants will have the opportunity to experience the midnight sun as there are 24 hours of light even if the sun sets for shorts periods of time.

    ● 위치

The project takes place in the Blue Mountain Range area, which is located about 30 km from Reykjavík. The Blue Mountain range stretches to the west from the mountain Vifilsfell near the main road (#1) from the capital area to the South-western lowlands. The highest mountain in the range reaches 600 m and in 1968 the district became a very popular skiing resort among Icelanders.

The areas are excellent for recreation, not only for alpine and cross country skiing, but outdoor activities as well such as hiking and mountain biking. Nature lovers are certain to find something they like there, but it’s important to be careful crossing the rugged lava fields because of the numerous caves underneath.

TERMINAL:Closest international Airport: Keflavík/Reykjavík (KEF). Bus station: Central Reykjavík (BSÍ)

Departure time will be 11:00 in the morning on June 4th from the meeting point at SEEDS office in Reykjavik.

After the camp we will return to Reykjavík in the afternoon of June 18th.

    ● 숙박

SEEDS volunteers will stay in one of the ski lodges in the mountains; in a sleeping bag accommodation sharing rooms. Please bring your own sleeping bag.

Volunteers will receive food supplies and be in charge of cooking and cleaning activities. Do not forget some traditional/typical food or drinks from your home country for an international evening in the camp.

Work: Volunteers will have environmental tasks in different areas in Fjardabyggd, for example cleaning the coastline, planting trees and flowers, taking down old fences, removing lupines or other plants and fixing hiking paths.

Our work will also depend on weather conditions, which is why we have to be flexible. You should be prepared for unfriendly weather, but hopefully, the weather will be nice most of the time. This is a perfect camp for people who like outdoor work and physical challenges. Working hours are about 6 hours a day, 5 days a week.

    ● 위치

Project and location: Scoured by Ice Age glaciers, the dramatic east coast boasts long, narrow fjords with steep sides and jagged peaks which contrast with inland fertile farmlands. Natural harbours depict postcard-like fishing villages and seemingly never-ending roads cross the region, providing beautiful views.

“Fjarðabyggð" is an association of villages in the Eastern fjords of Iceland. It includes the towns of Eskifjörður, Fáskrúðsfjörður, Mjóifjörður, Neskaupstaður, Reyðarfjörður, Breiðdalsvík and Stöðvarfjörður, all tiny fishing villages with steep mountains towering just behind the houses. In this area you will see some of the features that make Iceland a unique place in the world: spectacular fjords with a rich sea life, a great variety of birdlife and countless breathtaking hiking paths. You will explore the area during your stay in the east.

Terminal: Intl. Airport: Keflavík (KEF), Reykjavík.

Work: The organisation has a farmhouse on the outskirts of Reykjavik, 15 km from the center of the capital. Since the creation of Worldwide Friends, the organisation has been looking for an opportunity to set up a project that aims to promote sustainable living. Volunteers will do some renovation in the house and on the property and take care of the work in the farm. We have chickens, a cat, a dog, a greenhouse for growing herbs and vegetables and a piece of land where we grow potatoes, carrots and lettuce. Volunteers will help with all tasks related to the farm, as the work varies depending on the season. This year, we will also have specific topics to discuss in the workcamps, such as “food waste”, “recycling” and “renewable energy”. We will go for visits related to those topics for example, a visit to the powerplant Hellisheiðarvirkjun https://www.geothermalexhibition.com/exhibition. The Exhibition is presented via interactive multimedia installations, wall displays and presentations. It allows visitors to examine Iceland’s geothermal energy utilization in a clear and illuminating fashion. We will also visit the recycle Center Sorpa where the volunteers will learn about recycling methods. The volunteers will also create documentaries, posters and brochures related to sustainable living, which will be introduced to children in Reykjavik.

    ● 주요내용

Description of the partner organizing/hosting the project:

The Coast Cleaning & Environmentally Aware project is part of a series of camps organised by SEEDS in cooperation with different partners in the capital area of Iceland. SEEDS works with The blue army, an organisation dedicated to the cause of coast cleaning; with Whales of Iceland, an exhibition of life size models of whales and porpoises aiming at educating about the lives of these animals and human impact on their existence, and SORPA the organisation in charge of waste collection & management in the Reykjavik area.

    Description of work:

This camp allows participants to learn about global and local environmental issues, especially regarding ocean plastic pollution, as well as to contribute directly to environmental protection by cleaning the coastline. This project is based on similar projects around the world, where outstanding results have been made with volunteers. We aim to also host a public beach cleaning to get locals to join us. We hope participants will also learn how to plan their own coast cleaning projects and that they will create such events back home.
Virtually every piece of plastic that was ever made still exists in some shape or form as plastic takes 500 to 1,000 years to degrade in nature. Plastic is approximately 90% of all the trash in the ocean and about 80% of that plastic comes from coastal dispersal by people. The best way to help fight this is to clean the coastlines, to avoid trash coming from the land entering the sea and to pick up trash from the sea that has washed up on shore.
Participants will visit local projects focused on the environment, such as a Geothermal power plant and have a guided tour of the facilities via multimedia installations and presentations to learn about Iceland‘s geothermal energy utilization; and also a recycling centre where a tour of the plant is given and the activities are explained.
This camp combines learning, sharing, cleaning some of the Reykjavík shores, and having fun. Participants should also use this opportunity to share something about environmental issues in their country with the group of international participants. Included is a trip to the Hot River Hike, which is a hike up Reykjadalur valley in the vicinity of Hveragerði. The valley is filled with hot springs and there is a hot river in which one can bathe.
No previous experience is necessary, participants should be ready for spending time outside, walking along the coast for the cleanup, as well as for other activities and sightseeing. As part of the project is happening outdoors, volunteers shall be ready to adapt and be flexible with the working and free-time schedule, as depending on the changeable weather, we may not be able to perform some of the tasks or activities planned.

Description of the partner organizing/hosting the project:

SEEDS volunteers will support this project for the eleventh year in a row, we started cooperation in 2009 and the results have been very positive. The hosts are a group of locals developing the area with alternative tourism services, including running a series of huts in this isolated area in the highlands and offering services to visitors and hikers.

    Description of work:

In this camp SEEDS volunteers will work on diverse environmental outdoor tasks, including maintenance and development of walking paths and landscaping around the huts in the area. Volunteers will also help with the revegetation in some areas around, clearing litter on the walking paths, and assisting with general maintenance and preparations within the area before summer. As the landscape is raw, the work can be physically demanding and might require a good physical condition. No previous experience is needed. As it is outdoors work, volunteers shall be ready to adapt and be flexible with the working and free-time schedule, as depending on the -changeable- weather, we may not be able to perform some of the tasks or activities planned.Volunteers need to be prepared for working and walking in a wild landscape in one of the most isolated areas in Iceland. Be prepared to experience all kinds of weather and bring warm winter clothes as the tasks take place outside and it can get very cold in the highlands. Bring warm under-layers, waterproofs, walking shoes/boots, a good sleeping bag, hat scarves and gloves.

The Icelandic highlands, or the interior , are a true pearl to nature lovers and outdoor people. It is accessible on 4WD cars and most routes involve crossing rivers where there are not any bridges. If you really want to get away from it all, the interior of Iceland is like nothing you have ever experienced. The mountainous centre of the island, with its rocky deserts, craggy mountain peaks, ice caps, volcanoes, hidden valleys and hot springs, is an awesome and untouched wilderness. The interior was almost totally inaccessible until recently. However outlaws managed to hide out for years at a time in the highlands, rustling sheep and keeping away from law-abiding citizens. Folklore stories tell of both natural and supernatural beings that lay in wait for unwary highland travellers. Travellers going between the north and south of Iceland sometimes had to cross the highlands. To get to the assembly of Alsingi (parliament) each summer, delegates had to ride from every corner of the country to Singvellir in the Southwest. Volunteers will be staying close to the glacier Hofsjokull and near to the rivers Hvita and Sjorsa. The mountains in the area that reach up to 1500 m were formed during a volcanic eruption in the later part of the ice age. The area is still dynamic and great geothermal activity takes place in the surroundings. The environment is very diverse, both in shape and colour. The mountains are weathered and have very little continuous growth, as the forces of natu

Description of the partner organizing/hosting the project:
Hverageroi is a small town of about 1,700 inhabitants that lies some 45 km east of Reykjavik. This friendly little community sits on top of a highly active geothermal field, which provides heat for hundreds of greenhouses where fruit, flowers and vegetables are produced throughout the year. Even bananas grow in these greenhouses The name Hverageroi means hot springs garden. Geothermal energy is Hverageroi s lifeblood, and you probably won t find such a natural wonder in the middle of a populated area anywhere else in the world. Nearby you will find an even more geothermally active site: Gufudalur, the lovely Steam Valley behind the town. This whole valley is full of hot springs, geysers, mud pots, fumaroles and steaming vents. Our host is a non-profit organisation called the NLFI Rehabilitation and Health Clinic, which is a part of the Natural Health Association of Iceland. Every year approximately 2,000 patients and other guests enjoy their diverse rehabilitation programs, which are focused on an approach that builds self-confidence and personal responsibility for the patients own health. The clinic has earned a solid reputation, both in Iceland and internationally, since its foundation in 1955 for personal and effective care of patients. It is one of the two most important rehabilitation clinics in Iceland. In the last years this ongoing camp has been the most popular camp in our organisation.

    Description of work:
The Natural Health Association has a horticultural and environmental department, including forestry, gardening, and greenhouses, which is where Worldwide Friends volunteers work most of the time. Volunteers will help with growing the tomatoes, cucumbers and making tea made of Icelandic herbs and also do some environmental work around the property. The nature of the work depends largely on weather conditions, which can change quickly. Volunteers should bring clothes appropriate for outdoor work, but also clothes for working inside the warm greenhouses. Working hours are usually from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and volunteers will have a one-hour lunch break.

    ● 위치

Worldwide Friends volunteers have free access to the local geothermally-heated swimming pool. Traditionally, natural pools have played an important social role in Icelandic culture. Most Icelandic pools offer indoor and outdoor swimming, as well as hot tubs and saunas or steam rooms. Hverageroi is known for having great areas for hiking, including the hot river in Reykjadalur.WF Iceland will also organise reasonably-priced weekend excursions to some of the most popular, beautiful areas and natural wonders that Iceland can offer. Excursions include unique Icelandic sights, such as glacial lagoons, waterfalls, volcanic and geothermal areas, glaciers, geysers, lava forests, hot-springs, rhyolite mountain ranges, steam-vents or even icebergs. We will also focus on intercultural learning and exchange. Every evening, volunteers from different countries will present their country of origin and culture in an informal way. It can be a presentation, a game, theatre i the form of introduction is up to you Therefore, we encourage you to bring along some food, photos or anything interesting related to your country for a fun and informative evening amongst other volunteers. This workcamp gives you the opportunity to spend an amazing time in Iceland with other international volunteers and to have an incredible experience where participants share their knowledge with each other while exploring creativity, environmental issues and intercultural learning.

Work: Volunteers will have environmental tasks in different areas in the East, for example cleaning the coastline, planting trees and flowers, taking down old fences, removing lupines or other plants and fixing hiking paths. In the North we will have different kind of tasks. Some days we will focus on renovation, painting, cleaning and fixing things around the WF house. The house is around 500 m2 and through the years the volunteers have been making beautiful drawings and paintings on the wall of the house. We will continue with that art work and also, we will make sculptures out of drifted wood. We will clean the coastline in the north near to the arctic circle.

    ● 위치

Project and location: This camp will take place in two villages – Stodvarfjordur in the East and Raufarhofn in the North of Iceland.

Stodvarfjordur: Scoured by Ice Age glaciers, the dramatic east coast boasts long, narrow fjords with steep sides and jagged peaks which contrast with inland fertile farmlands.

Raufarhofn: The village of Raufarhöfn is the community that lies farthest north in Iceland. It is located in the eastern part of Melrakkasletta close to the Arctic Circle. The population of Raufarhöfn is about 200 and most of the people there earn their living from fishing and fish processing. The harbor is very beautiful and partly shaped by nature itself. A wide and untouched open area surrounds the village with a lot of birds and varied vegetation. In summer one will observe wild migratory birds within the village being a part of the village life with the villagers most often waking up in the morning to the songs of birds. The coastline with its inlets and creeks is filled with driftwood and reaches out into the Arctic Sea. Away and on the surface of the sea various sea-birds will be spotted and an occasional seal. On the beach waders strut and inland on the grassy moorlands there are dozens of lakes filled with trout. In the vicinity many species of ducks, waders and species that favor heaths and moorlands may be observed.

    ● 숙박

Accommodation and food: Worldwide Friends volunteers will be staying in the WF houses in Stodvarfjordur and Raufarhofn. The houses are almost 500 m2 with 7 dormitories, big living room and another smaller one, fully equipped kitchen, showers and toilets. Beds are provided; however, volunteers should bring their own warm sleeping bags or borrow one from WF if they don’t want to bring it. Wireless internet access is provided free of charge.
Food is included for the duration of the workcamp, however, everyone is expected to do their fair share of the cooking and cleaning. Since it is always nice to try new and different dishes, volunteers are encouraged to bring along their favourite recipes from home!

    Description of work:

After the success last year, SEEDS will again organise intensely yoga related projects. Inspired by our successful photo marathons, we introduced yoga camps in the summer of 2018. Expect a mixture of workcamp and yoga retreat with the focus on yoga. SEEDS will work together with yogias, a senior yoga teacher from Amsterdam and former SEEDS international workcamps leader in 2010.
Participants will live together in the centre of Reykjavík. We will create our space for yoga practise in the same house. Be ready for daily vinyasa style flow yoga classes as well as restorative yoga and meditation sessions amongst other yogic activities and surprises. We will establish a daily practise in a gentle and regular schedule. There will be lots of opportunity for karma yoga, conversation and compassion. We will also have enough free time to explore the city and to dive into the local swimming pool.
Make sure to bring your own yoga mat, clothes and maybe block and belt, if needed for your practise. A blanket and cushion would come in handy too. There will be no extra mats or props available. Maybe you’d also like to have a dear object or picture with you for your personal focus. You should bring along an affinity for yoga with motivation to practise daily for the time of the camp, but an experienced level of practise is not required.
Please note this project is more of a learning/sharing camp and not a regular workcamp; we may be able to organize some voluntary work on a couple of afternoons but it depends on our partners and the weather. This camp is open for participants from the age of 18 years old. SEEDS organises a programme that combines learning, sharing, getting to know Iceland, its culture, having fun, as well as exploring the capital city and some stunning nature attractions in the excursions or other destinations, which will be part of the camp.

    ● 숙박

SEEDS participants will stay in a house in Reykjavík. The accommodation is basic or in this case, better said ashram style. Please bring your own sleeping bag.
We will receive food supplies and be in charge of the cooking and cleaning activities. Do not forget traditional or typical vegetarian food, non-alcoholic drinks, music and recipes from your country for the international evening.

Weather in Iceland is unpredictable, it can be cold or rainy. Please bring warm waterproof clothes, overcoats, scarves, gloves & hats. Please also bring along a swim gear, as we will try to visit some of the local swimming pools, and comfortable clothes for yoga practise.
