To appreciate the importance of the local village and its culture, volunteer will work closely with the local villagers in this workcamp. They are going to beautify the village, farming with local people and try the very traditional local food, and the most important thing to do is to set up the event of the Tin Hau¡¯s Birthday Celebration.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
LOCAL ORGANIZATION: City of Sainte-Thérèse
Over 10 years ago, the municipality and Chantiers jeunesse volunteers began transforming an abandoned site into a new green space located right in the town center, some 30 km north of Montréal. The site, known as the ¡°Pit à Charron¡± (the Charron¡¯s Pit) is a former quarry and was for many years a garbage dump! The groups toiled away to clean the site and begin a landscaping job. We are, as a result, a long way from the first two phases when 800 tires were found and the first paths and trails were built! This site is now a nature park well known by the whole community. Participants have helped with the installation of windmills used to filter the water of the ponds. One of these ponds has, by the way, been named after Chantiers jeunesse to honour the groups! Welcome to the ¡°Jardin des Sources¡± (Springs Garden)!
WORK :
Two groups will follow one another this summer in July and in August to improve the accessibility of the site for the citizens and to bring out the ecological and natural character of the site. Moreover, you will get the chance to work with youths from the Ste-Thérèse Youth Club. Here is the challenge that awaits you in this bird¡¯s paradise:
- Clean some areas in the park and the Lamothe pit ;
- Plant trees and shrubs to diminish erosion;
- Clean the lakes and the rivers surrounding the site.
Work will be divided among the two phases (July and August) depending on the workcamp¡¯s progress.
LOCATION
Sainte-Thérèse is located 30 km north of Montréal.
TERMINAL: Montréal-Trudeau Airport
MEETING POINT: in Montréal (more information in the Info-Sheet)
ACCOMMODATION
In the student residences of the College of Sainte-Thérèse.
LANGUAGE
English will be the language of the camp. Camp leaders and locals will also speak French.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The community is located along the sea-string area about 30km from Kampot town so that children are facing difficulty to enroll the language, computer class or any other skills in town. We were suggested by community people to focus on English teaching and to provide some other education materials for children in these communities. In addition, there are also in need of volunteers to work on mangrove field. TrapaingSangke and Kampong Samky fishing communities plan to plant at least ten thousand mangrove trees by 2013. Hence, CYA see this as an opportunity for hosting international volunteers to work on this field. We believe that through organizing voluntary service in these communities, we can help the local communities to develop, plus it will be a good experience for volunteers to work on environmental issues and to explore the living lifestyles of these two communities.
TFC welcomes individuals who are passionate about environmental and physical contribution. As an eco-village, you are not only working as active promoters for environmental and sea-life preservation, but enjoying the atmosphere of the natural environment.

Aims and activities of the workcamp
v To engage with the local children and teenagers in daily work using English language and interaction with international and national volunteers
v To participate with local community in setting up their eco-tourism and protect their mangroves forest and fishing area
v To maintain mangrove forest along the sea string to prevent future flood by the sea level rising
v To exchange and learn about Cambodian culture between international, national volunteers and local people.
v To explore unique experience of being able to explore the life feature that has not commonly seen by all.
v Meeting people and children for socializing with the local residence on purpose multi- cultural learning and sharing.
v Organizing educational workshops with kids and teenagers in primary school and secondary school about various topics in environmental education. This activity can¡¯t be expected to be regularly implemented that volunteers need to make effort in attracting them into learning as they might not focus primarily on their daily tasks after coming from school.
v Collecting the mangrove seeds from the mangrove forest, nurse the mangrove seeds, and plant the mangrove trees
v Construct the walking path in the mangrove forest as continuation from the previous work
