PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The project is co-organized by VolTra and Ta Kwu Ling/ Ping Che Alliance for ¡°Saving Our Home¡± (Alliance). Rural issues have recently increased public concerns on rural land use strategy (i.e., development and conservation) for the New Territories. Existing habitats in the New Territories are frequently affected by new development plans. The Alliance, founded in 2012, is a self-initiated alliance by Ping Che villagers in response to the North East New Territories New Development Areas Planning supposed by the government. The aims of the Alliance are to protect villagers¡¯ home and culture and to conserve the environment.
Tin Hau¡¯s Birthday falls on the 23rd day of the third lunar month (8 May 2018). Hong Kong¡¯s maritime heritage ensures that Tin Hau, Goddess of the Sea and patron saint of fishermen, has a strong and loyal following here. On her birthday, locals flock to the more than 70 temples dedicated to her to pray for safety, security, fine weather and full fishing nets during the coming year. To appreciate the importance of the local village and its culture, volunteer will work closely with the local villagers in this workcamp. They are going to beautify the village, farming with local people and try the very traditional local food, and the most important thing to do is to set up the event of the Tin Hau¡¯s Birthday Celebration.
Activities
1.Assist villagers to organize the celebration of Tin Hau¡¯s Birthday
2.Beautify or renovate the village¡¯s roads and visitors¡¯ centre
3.Rehabilitate agricultural land

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
LOCAL ORGANIZATION: City of Sainte-Thérèse
Over 10 years ago, the municipality and Chantiers jeunesse volunteers began transforming an abandoned site into a new green space located right in the town center, some 30 km north of Montréal. The site, known as the ¡°Pit à Charron¡± (the Charron¡¯s Pit) is a former quarry and was for many years a garbage dump! The groups toiled away to clean the site and begin a landscaping job. We are, as a result, a long way from the first two phases when 800 tires were found and the first paths and trails were built! This site is now a nature park well known by the whole community. Participants have helped with the installation of windmills used to filter the water of the ponds. One of these ponds has, by the way, been named after Chantiers jeunesse to honour the groups! Welcome to the ¡°Jardin des Sources¡± (Springs Garden)!
WORK :
Two groups will follow one another this summer in July and in August to improve the accessibility of the site for the citizens and to bring out the ecological and natural character of the site. Moreover, you will get the chance to work with youths from the Ste-Thérèse Youth Club. Here is the challenge that awaits you in this bird¡¯s paradise:
- Clean some areas in the park and the Lamothe pit ;
- Plant trees and shrubs to diminish erosion;
- Clean the lakes and the rivers surrounding the site.
Work will be divided among the two phases (July and August) depending on the workcamp¡¯s progress.
LOCATION
Sainte-Thérèse is located 30 km north of Montréal.
TERMINAL: Montréal-Trudeau Airport
MEETING POINT: in Montréal (more information in the Info-Sheet)
ACCOMMODATION
In the student residences of the College of Sainte-Thérèse.
LANGUAGE
English will be the language of the camp. Camp leaders and locals will also speak French.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Project overview:
The Maasai Mara National Reserve (also known as Masai Mara and by the locals as The Mara) is a large game reserve in Narok County, Kenya, contiguous with the Serengeti National Park in Mara Region, Tanzania. It is named in honor of the Maasai people (the ancestral inhabitants of the area) and their description of the area when looked at from afar: "Mara," which is Maa (Maasai language) for "spotted," an apt description for the circles of trees, scrub, savanna, and cloud shadows that mark the area.
It is globally famous for its exceptional population of Masai lions, African leopards and Tanzanian cheetahs, and the annual migration of zebra, Thomson's gazelle, and wildebeest to and from the Serengeti every year from July to October, known as the Great Migration.
The Maasai Mara National Reserve is only a fraction of the Greater Mara Ecosystem, which includes the following Group Ranches: Koiyaki, Lemek, Ol Chorro Oirowua, Olkinyei, Siana, Maji Moto, Naikara, Ol Derkesi, Kerinkani, Oloirien, and Kimintet.
Volunteers will work for six hours daily from Monday to Friday. They will work together with the local community members on the following activities:
Manual work and Intercultural activities:
• Tree planting
• Renovation of school classrooms and painting at the institution
OTHER ACTIVITIES:
• The theme of Discussion: Poverty Reduction: Volunteering as a tool to enhance connectivity
• Visits to Schools and homes in the neighbourhood

Project overview
The Maasai Mara National Reserve is only a fraction of the Greater Mara Ecosystem, which includes the following Group Ranches: Koiyaki, Lemek, Ol Chorro Oirowua, Olkinyei, Siana, Maji Moto, Naikara, Ol Derkesi, Kerinkani, Oloirien, and Kimintet
Manual work and Intercultural activities :
- Tree planting
- Renovation of school classrooms and painting at the institution
OTHER ACTIVITIES :
- The theme of Discussion (Poverty Reduction: Volunteering as a tool to enhance connectivity)
- Visits to Schools and homes in the neighbourhood
- Sports with pupils and local Maasai community
- Learning the Maasai culture and adventure within the Maasai Mara Game Reserve
LOCATION
Narok, Narok county, Rift VALLEY
ACCOMMODATION
- Volunteers will stay in a homestead provided by the local people with very basic living conditions. Volunteers have an obligation to climb down the level of the people with the aim of exposure to development challenges.
- KVDA will provide foodstuffs and volunteers will cook their own meals in turns. Water is available from springs and it is recommended that drinking water should be boiled or medicated. Mineral water available at supermarkets is also recommended.
- The Government policy to install ICT in primary schools has seen connectivity to the national power grid for most educational institutions in Kenya and this makes it easy for volunteers to use electric appliances while at the project.
- Furthermore, we invite you to bring typical food, spices, drinks, games and music from your country (for an intercultural evening) – and a lot of motivation!
LANGUAGE
English, Kiswahili
- English is the language of the work camp. There will be a possibility of learning Kiswahili and other international and local languages as cultural diversity is a major component in international service
