Project description
Child has been defined in different laws, policies and cultures. Tanzania child development policy define a Child as any person under the age of eighteen. Some studies have recorded that, this particular group in the society is spending more time in schools than home. In this context, physical environment of school buildings and grounds is therefore one of the key factor in the overall health, safety and security for Children staff, and visitors. Academic and personal development of Children are influenced by different factors including school facilities that are free of health and safety hazards that promote learning hence contribute to their bright future. This project is focusing on renovation of boys’ and girls’ toilets, make them accessible and improved hygiene. The project will connect Children, Teaching staff and non-teaching staff in cultural exchange, knowledge sharing and best practices in creating environment that promote healthy children for sustainable future.

Project activities
 Renovation of boys & girls toilets (Fixing walls, water system installation, sanitary appliance, wall painting etc.)
 Health Education: Provide basic education on hygiene, sanitation and public health care to the Teenagers and Children in the school
 Assist in organization of extracurricular activities after school hours (Sports, games, educational activities and help in home works).
 Study Part (Educational activities): Sustainable development goals in supporting Healthily Child for bright Future: Please bring information from your own community, Region and country for sharing.
 Expected outcomes: Improve school facilities contributing to health, safety and security among the Children and staff in the school; Increased knowledge on realities of Children life is schools; Contributing in realization of global sustainable development goals.

Jambiani is an old fishing village on the southeast coast of Zanzibar between Paje and Makundichi. Jambiani has a laid back vibe with friendly local people who mix with tourists. The community has population of Jambiani has a strong seaweed culture with many farms dotting the coastline and employing a good number of locals, mainly women. Their main source of income is fishing and seaweed farming. Jambiani is a best destination in Zanzibar Island to get a good insight into the local way of life and everything is in walking distance. Project accommodation facility is just bordering the sea. Volunteers will be privileged to enjoy sea side every day. Other possibilities may include Exploring Zanzibar historical, natural and cultural sites. E.g. Local markets, stone town, enjoying wildlife and marine life. Jozani forest National Park, Blue safaris swimming, tour to small islands, variety of water sports, spice tour among many other options

Meeting Point: Volunteers will be picked up at Kiponda Bed& Breakfast accommodation, located along Kiponda Street in Zanzibar Stone town on Monday the 13th January 2020 at 16:00 hrs. (You may wish to reserve your accommodation in this place if arriving before the date/time indicated.)

Volunteers will be accommodate in a local school teachers’ residential houses. The house is a bit old but good enough to host a team of volunteers. They will be enough rooms for ladies and gents, shared toilet outside. No beds and volunteers will sleep on the mattresses on the floor. Water will be available as well electricity. Meals will be provided at the accommodation including vegetarians.

Project description
It is believed that the world’s population recently passed more than 7 billion people, an incredible number to measure. In Tanzania, Africa as well around the world many people still barely meet anyone outside of a small circle of family, friends and community while even more never venture beyond the culture in which they were raised. Cultural exposure project is aiming to serve as an important means of introducing people around the world to realities they might not normally be exposed to. Many barriers have begun to fall between people around the world, with near-instantaneous communication allowing people on opposite sides of the world to meaningfully interact. Cultural exposure project encourage people from all walks of life to appreciate and understand distinct cultures and play a key role in creating productive dialogue across the world.

Project activities
 Promote healthy living (Hygiene and reproductive health) through arts expression through drawing in school walls (Classrooms and toilets buildings).
 Working with students after school hours developing dramas, composing songs/Music that promote learning, Peace and development
 Participate in intensive Kiswahili Language Class
 Workshops and debates with local schools on topics related to cultural differences
 Educational activities (Study Part): Promoting Cultural exposure for Local and global peace & Understanding
 Expected Outcome: Meeting of cultures, Increased understanding on social, economic and cultural realities of the world among the volunteers, students and the local community members; Increased understand/Knowledge of importance of arts in different development campaigns, Increased understanding of foreign languages

Project description
Nature and Culture are two different terms but interconnected since one affect another. Conservation of the both has been popular topic over the decades now. This is due to the fact that, human activities are increasing every other day hence interfering the nature and cultures. This project is focusing on complex question; whether we can conserve nature and culture hence design sustainable communities for our future.

Marangu is a community gifted with natural atractration like forest, water sources and water falls, landscapes, green vegetation throughout the year etc. However the nature has been significantly affected by human activities. Most families still maintain traditional style of cooking their meals on the ground in the house over an open flame. As a traditional house usually has only one room, the whole house is filled with the smoke before and after meals. The smoke is thick and stays in the house as only a little hole in the roof allows for ventilation. As a result, acute respiratory and eye diseases are a significant problem for mostly women and children. Additionally, this form of cooking requires large amount of firewood, which puts pressure on the Mount Kilimanjaro forest and thus a major contributor of forest destruction leading to climate change.

Project activities
 Conservation of water sources through tree planting
 Establishment and management of community tree nursery (herbs and indigenous trees);
 Renewable energy (construction and installation of demonstration energy saver stoves- the stoves are designed in a very simple technology and will be installed in few homes as a demonstration for the community to adapt);
 Environmental education and awareness through various participatory methods like workshop presentations, debates in schools, sports, Arts, Craft, Music etc.
 Educational activities (Study Part): The study part will be divided in four folds; the big picture to understand why do we need to be developing sustainable communities, listening to nature and celebrating life; Ecological: bioregionalism, local food and organic farming; Social:-community living, diversity and building communication skills; Economic:-understanding the global versus local argument, analyzing ecological footprint.

The word "Marangu" means a place with too many water streams. It is one of the most popular places in Tanzania. Located at the foot of Africa's tallest mountain, the quaint village of Marangu offers fascinating insight into both modern Tanzanian life and into the lives of the Chagga people who once withstood vicious Maasai raids through the ingenious use of tunnels. Many Marangu residents are farmers growing bananas, vegetables and coffee. However, the biggest source of income is tourism. The Marangu route is the most popular hiking route in Africa. The fact and reality of Marangu makes this place to be accessible with all social, economic and security facilities. You will not regret to be in Marangu, Kilimanjaro.
Being in Northern Tanzania known as the capital of cultural, natural and tourist attraction you will have a good number of options:-

 Cultural & Eco tourism around Chagga communities in Kilimanjaro, Masai in Arusha and the neighboring regions.
 Hiking- there is a possibility of Hiking in Kilimanjaro mountain nature forest
 Wild-life safari - Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Manyara and Tarangire National parks
 Mountain Climbing- (Mount Kilimanjaro, Meru and others.)
 Water side relaxation: Lake Chala, water falls etc.

Project description
Agriculture is the main part of Tanzania's economy providing livelihoods for about 70 percent of the population. However, many local farmers struggle to make a profit and produce an adequate supply of food for their communities. As a volunteer on the Sustainable Agriculture project in Tanzania your focus is on providing support to small-scale local farmers, resulting in improved livelihoods for farming communities and more resilient and sustainable agriculture practices.
This project will be hosted by JUAWA, a local farmer’s cooperative in Zanzibar formed to sustain livelihood of its members through agriculture, dairy farming and environment conservation. With 100+ members they are working together in horticulture production, dairy cow, processing of dairy products and tree planting.

Project activities
 Agriculture: Preparing fields, planting and harvesting of fruits and vegetables. Planting grasses to feed animals.
 Dairy farm: Cow milking, cleaning for animals sheds, feeding animals, and helping in processing yoghurt juices.
 Environment: Tree planting and environmental education and awareness.
 Educational activities (Study part): Sustainable livelihood for small scale farmers

Mpapa is a community of approximately 1,500 inhabitants in the rural area of Unguja Island, Zanzibar. The community is located about 25km from Stone town and is accessible by both public and private transport. Convenient shopping places, market, health centers, telecommunication services are available. Banking facilities can be accessible from Zanzibar stone. Mpapa community is a strategic recreation point taking advantage of been close to most beautiful beaches of Zanzibar among other attractive destinations.

Saturdays, Sundays and Public holidays is always free for volunteers to take advantage of the richness in natural, cultural and tourist attraction of Zanzibar to explore. Possibilities are; Exploring Zanzibar historical, natural and cultural sites. These include museums, local markets, stone town, etc.; Enjoy wildlife and marine life. Jozani forest National Park, Blue safaris swimming, tour to small islands, variety of water sports, spice tour among many other options.

Description:
Climate change is tittle given on the current status of global warming. It has been reported that the average surface temperature of the earth has increased abnormally. The warming trend of past fifty years is estimated to be twice as much of the other past hundred years. Human activities have been major contributing factor and there is no denying that we are responsible for the state of our planet.
Marangu is a community located in the sloops of the Mount Kilimanjaro gifted with natural attractions like forest, water sources and water falls, landscapes, green vegetation throughout the year etc. Over the years the nature has been affected by human activities as results of various social and economic reasons. Various actions have been taken Government and other stake holders including voluntary service Organisations and the situation is improving. This volunteer project is aiming to continue join efforts of the volunteers and community members to work together addressing this global challenge through various actions. Volunteers actions towards climate change though in small scale has been and still expected to contribute to conservation as well inspire more people to do the same.

Local residential house in the village. Mattresses will be provided in shared room, water and electricity will be available. Our kitchen-volunteer staff will be available to prepare meals however, each volunteer will be required to help in meals preparation. Description:
Environmental Leadership is an Initiative that is expected to offer unique opportunity to develop the full potential and transform promising team into its next generation of ethical, engaged and empowering leaders. This project focuses on developing the talents and potential leadership skills of its participants in the context of their individual environment as well the community as a whole.
The project is expected to gather diverse team members interested on the topic to learn and share skills and knowledge on various aspects of environment. The end results are expected to contribute to the sustainable living. It is believed that, lack of knowledge and exposure have significantly increased lifestyles that cause more environmental and health damage for future generations to deal with.

Activities:
Volunteers will join the selected members of the community to participate in following activities/ Components of the project.

 Workshops:
The workshops offer exciting new insights into leadership principles and practices will be presented by experienced leaders from various sectors that are skilled at translating principles and concepts into practical ideas and techniques. You will be exposed to cutting edge research into leadership, as well as into brain functioning and how leaders can best support and encourage your community, and will leave the workshops with the skills to implement improvements in your own leadership practice.

 Workplace Project/Educational tour: Volunteers will have an opportunity to join the local community members (Those in the program) on their daily community work and share some practical realities. This will be in the sectors of local Government Management, Local community Schools, Businesses, Social and cultural activities. Volunteers will be accommodated at the Youth hostel in the community. Get ready to share a room with other volunteers. Water and electricity will be available. Our kitchen-volunteer staff will be available to prepare meals however, volunteers are expected to help in dishwashing, kitchen cleaning and food preparation. Vegetarian meals will be available for the entire period of the project.

Magole is a semi-urban community located in the outskirts of Dar es Salaam City (about 30 km to the south). With a population of approximately 5,000 inhabitants the community is situated in a beautiful area surrounded by nature. UVIKIUTA Eco-Village activities are implemented in this area. Magole is accessible by both public and private transport, with most necessary social service facilities like health center, telecommunications, banking and shopping places. Possibilities are:

 Exploring Zanzibar’s historical, natural and cultural sites. These include museums, local markets, stone town etc. Enjoying wildlife and marine life. Jozani forest National Park, Blue Safari’s swimming tour to small islands, variety of water sports, spice tour among many other options.
 Near Dar es Salaam possibilities could be: wildlife safari trips, marine excursions (Mingoyo Islands) eco and cultural tourism activities, Bagamoyo or Kilwa, Dar es Salaam tour (beach, museums, and markets).

Description:
Kids and Teenagers Educational facilities is a project aiming to improve and maintain facilities provided to students, so that they can use every opportunity to develop full potential. Educational facilities include buildings, fixtures, and equipment necessary for the effective and efficient operation of the program of public education, classrooms, libraries, rooms and space for physical education, space for fine arts, restrooms, cafeterias, landscaping and paving, and similar items.

It has been recorded that, Children and Teenagers are spending more time in schools than at home. Therefore, physical environment of educational facilities
is one of the key factors in the overall health, safety and security for children, staff, and visitors. Academic and personal development of a child is influenced by different factors including school facilities which are free of health and safety hazards and promote learning, hence contributing to their bright future. This project is therefore aiming to contribute to improved educational facilities for children and teenagers.

Activities:
 Renovation (fixing walls, wall painting etc.).
 Provide garbage collection bins and train children and teenagers on how to use them.
 Health Education: Provide basic education on hygiene, sanitation and public health care to the teenagers and children in the school.
 Assist in organization of extracurricular activities. (sports, games, educational activities and help in home works).
 Study Part (Educational activities): Workshops, discussions, debates and education tours focusing on sustainable development goals topic’s related to future of children in the society. Please bring information from your own community, region or Country for sharing.

 Mkoani Pemba Ferry Terminal
 Any other accommodation facility within Chake-chake town.
 You deserve one complementary pick up service- when the second one applies a volunteer is asked to contribute to the transportation cost.
 Meeting point, date and time: Volunteers will be picked at any other above listed points on the 1st July 2020 at 14:00 hrs. Local time. (Please let us know if you can’t be hear on time). If you wish to arrive earlier Pemba you can book online for the accommodation facility that suits your needs.

Accommodation will be at beach house. Volunteers will share rooms (2-4) people in one room, using mattresses laydown in the ground. Clean water will available. The house use generator to generate power. Our kitchen-volunteer staff will be available to prepare meals however, each volunteer will be required to help in meals preparation. Vegetarian meals will be available.

Description:
Pemba Island, known as "The Green Island" in Arabic. (It is an island forming part of the Zanzibar archipelago lying within the Swahili cost in the Indian coast. With a land area of 988 square kilometers (it is situated about 50 kilometers to the north of Unguja, the largest island of the archipelago). Pemba Island has a laidback vibe with friendly local people. The host community has a strong seaweed culture with many farms dotting the coastline and employing a good number of locals, mainly women. There is also a good number of local young artist in the Island making their living through arts, crafts, music, drama etc. This volunteer project is aiming to connect volunteers, young artist as well community members to raise awareness on various development issues especially those related to sustainable development goals and its sub topics

Activities:
 Arts work: Volunteers will join local artists mostly those involve in painting and handcraft to exchange knowledge, skills and experiences in their working stations as well creating arts that speaks and raise awareness to the development issues.
 Local music and dancing class: Participate in composing music and practice traditional dancing with awareness messages
 Cleaning: Community and beach clean ups
 Local Youth Initiative: Helping local young people to improve art skills, producing quality products as well help in marketing for their produce in supporting of their livelihood.
