Project : Betz is a village at the heart of the Valois region, historical territory linked to King François the 1st. With its 1000 inhabitants, it has a rich history thanks to the Monaco princes and the King of Morocco. Nowadays, the City council keeps strong bonds with Morocco thanks to a city pairing. The town has a high school and wishes to encourage youth participation as well as making the village beautiful. After the success of last year’s workcamp, we are continuing the project for the third time in a row! The locals are expecting you, especially for the celebrations of the 14th of July!

Work : An old railway line that crosses the Pays du Valois has been transformed into a soft lane for pedestrians, bicycles and rollerblades. In the heart of the village the old railway of the nineteenth century made of cut stone has suffered from time and weather. An association was created to save it. Your job will be to take back the masonry, to cut stones and put joins between them in order to set everything together according to traditional techniques.

Project : Come to animate a small town in the heart of Brittany!
The town council of Plevin welcomes you for its first international workcamp and need you to restore its built heritage, in the center of the village! An opportunity to experience the local culture and to make unforgettable inter-generational meetings.

Work : You will restore a perimeter wall using traditional masonry techniques. You will have to rebuild a part of the wall, repair the damaged areas, fill in the cracks and make new seals.

You will sleep in two-person tents (please bring your sleeping mat) near the sports field and the group activities and meals will take place in a room made available to the group.
The group will be sharing the cleaning chores and preparing meals together. The budget will be allocated to the group leader, shopping will be done with him/her and you will participate in the preparation of dishes with products from the market and local producers (if possible).

You will have to bring warm clothes (trousers, sweater; socks, closed shoes, rain clothes) and light ones (skirt or shorts, t-shirt, open shoes) because weather can change very suddenly in Brittany.
You can literally experience all four seasons in one day! Please also take with you working clothes, gloves and shoes in addition to your best swimsuit. Bring a warm sleeping bag and an insulated camping mat as nights are sometimes fresh and wet.

Leisure : Plevin (around 800 inhabitants) is located in the center of Brittany in the county of “Cotes d’Armor”. It is a charming small town, with a 17th century church. There are several hiking trails around the town. You will be able to go on a trip to the sea or to do leisure activities in the town of Carhaix (around 7 500 inhabitants), at only 10 km from Plevin. You will also be able to enjoy the atmosphere of the music festival “Les Vieilles Charrues” which takes place there every summer in July. It’s the biggest music festival in France (around 280 000 visitors last year)!

Project : Get involve in a beautiful natural site to restore a small stone bridge with your feet in the water!
Come and join the association for the preservation of the Galny Bridge which gathers inhabitants engaged in the safeguard of their local heritage. This fording allows walkers and bikers to cross a stream. This small bridge belongs to two distinct municipalities, Carentoir and La Gacilly. For Carentoir, it will be the fifth international workcamp with Concordia but it’s only our first partnership with the Council of La Gacilly. Two international workcamps will take place this summer in this site, in July and August.

Work : You will restore a small stone bridge on a stream. You will clear the different piles of stones from the dirt and vegetation, and then you will remove those piles, take them apart and rebuild those using traditional technics. Finally, you will have to set up “palis” (large flat stones) above the piles to link them together.

CARENTOIR / LA GACILLY 1

You will sleep in a campsite, in a wooded park in two-person tents (please bring your sleeping mat).
Activities and meals will take place in a room made available to the group. You will be sharing the cleaning chores and preparing meals together. The workcamp site is about 4 kilometers away from the accommodation. You will walk or use bicycles to reach it.

Leisure : Carentoir (around 3000 inhabitants) and La Gacilly (around 2200 inhabitants) is in Brittany in the Morbihan County. These are charming little towns that have a rich heritage, that you would be able to discover. The work site is straddling the border between the two towns and it’s a little far from the centers of the towns. Accommodation is in Carentoir. There are several hiking trails around the town and you will be able to have recreational activities in “L’Ile aux Pies” nearby. You can also visit the Farm World, a park with animals in semi-freedom and an artisanal village. Every summer La Gacilly welcomes the largest open-air photography festival in France.

Located in the heart of the Hautes-Alpes, the association “Les Villages des Jeunes”, www.villagesjeunes.org, manages, runs and renovates a hosting centre at Vaunières since 1964! It is an old mountain hamlet that has become both a “trampoline” for youth and adults facing hardships, and a welcoming place for French and international volunteers. Vaunières is a vacation destination for families, tourists and people with disabilities who come to enjoy the calmness of the mountain and the place’s dynamic atmosphere. Our workcamps, with volunteers from all countries, allow us to reinforce the cultural diversity of our work, and to open up the site to the world, making it a place where people from all ages and socio-cultural backgrounds agree to meet each other by working together and sharing community life. We hope that you too will join us in an atmosphere of exchange and “do-it-together” that characterizes our project.

Work : You will participate in a large-scale project. Located on the site of a hamlet, were five cottages used to be inhabited, however due to a lack of water supply this was no longer possible. In 2017, the association looked for and found a new water source that can refuel these cottages. Your mission will be to connect this water source to the cottages. With a technical supervisor, you will discover several types and methods of work: masonry, clearing work, "plumbing"…

Leisure activities : Located within a remarkable natural environment, Vaunières is an ideal place to go hiking in the mountains and discover the rural life with its farmers’ markets and its producers. In the evenings you will be able to organize games, screenings, international meals and more. Tourist visits can also be arranged. You will also participate of a Music and Cultural Festival organised at the end of July. Summer in the village is very active! As there will be 80 people in the hamlet, this will give you many opportunities to talk and get to know different people.

The festival Cultures du Monde is a unique place to meet more than 400 dancers and singers, and get involved in the organisation of a big festival in close cooperation with the local volunteers. Description of work:
You will be fully integrated in the team of local volunteers. Before the festival, you will participate to create the decorations and set up the place. During the festival, you will join the teams in charge of welcoming the public and hosting the artists, and in charge of catering and refreshment stalls. After the festival, you will help to pack up and clean the site. Important: during the festival, work is very intense, days are long and nights are short... but the atmosphere is very warm and full of beautiful meetings!

Gannat is a small town 45km North from Clermont-Ferrand. The region is rich with historical villages, and beautiful natural areas to visit! Your campleaders will prepare games and activities but you will be invited to propose and create your own animations! Be creative! The heart of the project remains the organisation of the festival and a lot of activities will be linked to the meeting of local volunteers.

Project: A workcamp for nature and history lovers!
Do you feel like working and spending time outdoors? Follow the footsteps of Essonne’s former quarrymen and join us, in the heart of the geologic reserve, to work on the enhancement of a natural and cultural heritage: la Butte du Puits.

This workcamp is the perfect opportunity to enjoy the Natural Reserve of Gâtinais while taking part in the improvement of the site! You will contribute to the restoration of the walls of the ancient quarrymen’s house and to the construction of a shelter for educational activities. The National Nature Reserve of the geological sites in Essone, where you will be working, is also known for the great diversity of its fauna and flaura.

Work:
You will participate in the land-clearing of the site and the restoration of the ancient quarry house which overlooks the Valley. You’ll also participate in the development of the site, which has a pedagogical vocation around geology (strata of limestone and sandstone).

You will be accompanied by a technical leader who will guide you and the team of about fifteen international and local young volunteers during the work.

The workcamp will take place in the wilderness, away from urban amenities. You will be moving around on bikes available for the duration of your stay.

Geographic location and leisure activities: VILLENEUVE-SUR-AUVERS
The Butte du Puits, is an ancient sandstone quarry, which was abandoned by its owners in the middle of the twentieth century. It’s located in the regional natural park of the French Gâtinais, in the center of the Juine Valley and overlooks the dry valley of Villeneuve-sur-Auvers, in Essonne. The National Natural Reserve of the Essonne Geological sites holds a great ecological interest (fauna and flora). The park extends over 5 hectars and is composed of sands, colluvium and platière of sandstone, which house a rich variety of species.

Make sure to bring work gloves and insects repellent (for the clothes). It’s mandatory to bring long and tight trousers to cover the ankles. Clansayes (500 inhabitants) is located in South Drome, at the broder with Provence. 20 km away from Montelimar and 5 km away from St Paul 3 Chateaux. The village has many traces of a rich past (see pictures). Be open, the inhabitants love to welcome the volunteers Be careful, no shops and no public transportation.

This is the third international construction site experience that takes place in the town of Bay, and the inhabitants of the village and the surrounding area are waiting for you with enthusiasm and impatience! This solidarity project is based on meeting and sharing. In Bay, you will always find an open door, whether for a drink after a long day of construction, working together or comfort you if you have a little blues ...
This are special moments, as moments of sharing are also moments were prejudices and dangerous stereotypes that would drive people away rather than bring them together, are broken down. So, come to work with them, for a bit of change and peace building.

Work: For this small village, this international workcamp is a very important event that brings together international volunteers and villagers. This year, you will continue the work begun during the previous international workcamps. You will participate in the redevelopment of the surroundings of the church. It will consist of dismantling the old wall and building a new one, which will be more solid and solidary. While learning useful masonry techniques, you will share important moments of meetings, exchanges and conviviality.

Bay (70150) is located 30 km from Besançon.

Closest train station: Besançon TGV (25000). A meeting point will be organized in the afternoon (approximately around 16h).

In a common room above the town hall. You will sleep on camp beds. Bring a sleeping bag. The kitchen is located in the centre of the village which will allow many more meetings. Leisure activities: The town and its inhabitants wish to offer you a unique experience. You will have the opportunity to visit with the inhabitants of the village of many tourist sites of Franche-Comté. Depending on the weather, swimming and walks will be on the program, and of course, you will organize the traditional international dinner.

Description of the workcamp activities:
Under the guidance of a professional, you will experience stone cutting, masonry and pointing, in an effort to restore and preserve this historic building, one of the largest castles in Europe. The cultural exchange with the international dimension of the project, the various art workshops and tours of the area will be an ideal addition to group work. You will also discover local and traditional crafts (basket making, sculpture). The accomodation is provided in a XVIIIe century and confortable house which belongs to the association. The food is prepared by a cook, and sometimes your help will be required.

Description of the local REMPART association:
The Association of Old Châtel was founded in 1972 by a small group of volunteers to stop a program of urban planning which would have destroyed the fortress, one of the largest castles in the Middle Ages. Built from the eleventh to the fifteenth century on a surface of almost eight hectares, the site also offers visitors a journey of great interest, an exceptional documentation gained from historical research conducted in more than forty archives office in Europe.

Located 700 meters above sea level in the heart of Regional Park Livradois, Condat lès Montboissier is often considered as a dynamic village. In a privileged environment, with a preserved natural environment, a few associations unites people around various activities such as sports, art or culture. The goal: Restore a old wash house and participate in the local party.

WORK: Your mission during this workcamp is to preserve different elements of the building heritage of Condat. As the first mission you will act for the restauration of the washhouse. Then you will participate in the organization of the local festival, the chance to live unforgettable moments in the heart of French culture!
You will participate to the work with other international volunteers and a technical supervisor will teach you specific techniques. The work takes place the morning for 5 hours maximum. Afternoon and weekends are dedicated to activities.

- Located on average mountain, the town offers magnificent views of the mountains of FOREZ. You can admire during your walks on the many marked trails specificity of landscapes, fauna and flora. Heritage is unique: since 2014, the municipality is committed to the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism Development with the Regional Natural Park Livradois. In this protected natural environment, you can walk, swim in the river, visit exceptional sites. TERMINAL: Issoire

You will stay at the football stadium a few meters from downtown. Tents and mattresses will be provided, please bring a sleeping bag. You'll have on-site access to all the facilities (toilets, electricity ...). The showers will be taken in the recreation room. There will be a kitchen area with refrigerator, stove, tables and chairs so you can eat together. You will cook in turn, by two, and a budget will be allocated to food shopping in the grocery store of the town.
