- To support the local community, namely the Cooperative Cercimarante, an institution linked to young people with disabilities, in the preparation of the Street Theatre;- Developing the autonomy and self-esteem of young people with disabilities;- Stimulating the contact of young people with fewer opportunities with other young people from different cultures;- Fostering the personal and social development of young volunteers through non-formal education activities;- Providing young volunteers with knowledge of a new social and cultural reality enabling them to combat any kind of prejudice and stereotypes;- To promote the preservation and protection of cultural heritage at international and local level through direct contact and inclusion of the participants with the community.
Description of work:
Activities: group dynamics; presentation to the city and region; discussion on the workcamp theme (objectives, tasks division); visit to the most important places of the city; training on theatre performance and workshop on how to deal with the difference; direct contact and work with local NGO (Cercimarante) responsible for activities with local handicapped young people; organize an event (theatre performance) involving both groups (workcamp participants and local handicapped young people) to be presented to the local community (street performance ( expected more than 500 persons to attend);
Description of location and leisure:
Amarante is a small town in the North of Portugal, part of Porto district (60km far from Porto to the interior) with 12 thousand inhabitants (in the city center). It is a quite famous city for tourism, culture, and wine production. Indeed, is quite near (18km) the Oporto wine region. Is crossed by TEmega River (one of the rivers ending at Douro River that crosses Porto till the Atlantic Ocean) and it is on the valley of one of the most important Portuguese mountains, MarEpoundo (1450m). Amarante is well located (nearby passes highway A4 connecting to Oporto and highway A11 connecting to GuimarEpoundes)
Description of accommodation and food:
Participants will be accommodated in shared rooms (4 participants each) of Casa da Juventude de Amarante. Casa da Juventude de Amarante has its own kitchen, WC, and showers. In terms of food, our youth centre has a bar\restaurant proposal for the volunteers (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) always taking into consideration our aims (healthy food with organic and vegetarian ingredients). Laundry available (self-service). Our youth centre has free wireless.

HANDS ON is a camp where young people acquire social skills, learn and practice Social Thinking in a supportive environment. All campers participate daily in a social group dedicated to organizing and distributing clothing and essential goods to families in need and also supporting children in spending their vacation time, which focuses on the social learning of concepts necessary for everyday life. Campers work hard to achieve camp goals but also to identify their own social goals and to try new strategies as they navigate the week at camp. HANDS ON focuses on teaching campers how to think and solve problems in social situations rather than relying on cues or changes in the external environment around the camper.
Description of work:
Counsellors support campers in the practice of social learning during camp activities, including participation in social volunteering actions. Specifically, volunteers will have to carry out two types of tasks in rotating groups. Under the supervision of the leaders, volunteers are expected to support summer activities (water holidays) for children aged between 4 and 10 years old. Under the supervision of the monitors, volunteers are expected to select, organize and distribute clothes, footwear and toys from the social store to the disadvantaged people. Our camps is about Climate Change, Sustainability, and Green Economy,. 1) Collection and sorting of native plant seeds, which will be used to create micro-reserves;2) Cleaning up watercourses, controlling reeds and other necessary biophysical engineering interventions.3) Nursery maintenance work - In order to ensure the normal functioning of our nursery, the participants will carry out a variety of tasks, including weeding the plants in production, transplanting plants into pots with a larger capacity, watering the mother plants, sowing seeds, reorganizing the space and other tasks that are relevant to the normal functioning of the nursery, thus guaranteeing the survival of the plants in production. 4) Practical workshop on sustainability and changing behavior. 5) Practical workshop on water management.

This camp takes place in a rural territory, close to a small city, Montemor-o-Novo in Alentejo region, Portugal. The camp will be at a 7 minutes distance by car from Montemor-o-Novo, transport for the activities will be assured.It is located at approximately at a 100 km distance from Lisbon, the Portuguese city capital and 35km from Evora.

The participants will be accommodated in individual tents which is located 5 km from Montemor-o-Novo.There the participants will cook breakfast and snacks; Lunch and dinner will be provided, exception for weekends where participants have to cook lunch and dinner. Participants are responsible for cleaning the common kitchen and dishes.

Aldeia de S. SebastiEpoundo is a small village, with 80 inhabitants near the border between Portugal and Spain. The village has no shopping, restaurants or cafes, but in summer the Association bar is open to the public. Castelo Bom is a small and historic village with great view of CEa River located in the interior of Portugal, surrounded by other historic villages. The closest city is Guarda, which is the district capital (40km). The work camp is located in a historic and rural area, quiet and far from big cities, providing moments of leisure and rest for volunteers.

A group of local associations in Fornelos (municipality of Fafe) has been organizing the Terra MEpounde Ecofestival for a number of years in order to invite families to take part in leisure, knowledge and social activities around environmental issues and personal development, under the slogan Three days to change the world, three days to change your life. This festival takes place only with the mobilization of volunteers who set up all the structures, spaces, recovering spaces in nature for sustainable use, preparing workshops, concerts and other workshops for children and adults, in a festival aimed at the whole family. During the festival, participants will have the chance to meet different people, prepare workshops but also engage in other workshops from dances, meditation, arts, etc
Description of work:
The tasks are as described: to maintain and increase an organic, educational and community garden; to implement the aromatic garden and create spaces and dynamics to support activities and workshops with children and families as part of the Terra MEpounde Ecofestival; to build composters for organic recycling (for the Ecofestival and for awareness-raising workshops); to recover 6 dry toilets for use at the Festival; to recover spaces for leisure and socializing among families at Quinta do Minhoto; to support the workshops and concerts happening at the Ecofestival, ensuring security of the spaces, hosting artists and other tasks related to the festival.

The kitchen complex has an electrical corner to plug devices for charging, but we highly recommend participants to go offline or reduce the use of digital devices to take as much from the experience as possible. The work camp aims to unite young people from diverse nationalities, cultures, and backgrounds to enhance biodiversity, restore degraded ecosystems, and improve landscape fire resilience. Activities will take place in an ecologically degraded and sensitive area managed by MONTIS in Carvalhais.Participants, guided by monitors and specialists, will gain skills in nature conservation and ecosystem restoration through a learn by doing approach. Tasks include individual and group activities, fauna workshops, and leisure events to foster intercultural interaction and linguistic learning.Expected nature outputs include improved vegetation growth, habitat conditions, fire resilience, soil quality, and water infiltration, as well as fauna and flora identification recorded on iNaturalist.
Description of work:
The volunteering tasks focus on ecosystem restoration and include a variety of activities: pruning young trees and managing pine and other native species to accelerate their growth; creating and maintaining access paths for volunteers and visitors; restoring riparian vegetation; building water runoff barriers with local materials to improve soil and water infiltration; and controlling invasive plants like Acacia dealbata, which degrades local ecosystems. Control methods involve pulling small trees and ring barking larger ones. Volunteers will also help with camera trapping, setting up and retrieving cameras to capture wildlife photos and videos, with results shared afterward via email. Additionally, participants will identify and record fauna and flora using the iNaturalist app.

The location of the Workcamp is in a remote rural area. Volunteers will camp in Bioparque de Carvalhais (https://bioparque.org). The closest village is 2 km from the camp. MONTIS will have a van available to support the needed transportation. The intervention area distances from the campsite are about 20 minutes walking

Volunteers will be camping. There is a central facility with showers, and WC for women and man, with all basic hygiene facilities. There is another central facility for socializing, with board and card games, and a small bar/shop. The camping site has internet available, as well as outdoor barbecue and eating tables. There is no kitchen or laundry.MONTIS will provide regular meals, with the possibility of vegetarian by request. These include breakfast, lunch, afternoon snack and dinner. Lunch will be served on the field as a packed lunch.

The camp will take place at the Quinta EcolEgica da Moita (QEM), a 14 hectares forest that locates at the village of Oliveirinha, in a rural setting near the city of Aveiro, here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/FP1VUruHVgReL2Fm9 QEM used to be a very active educational forest but it has been abandoned for a few years and needs restoration and maintenance work to become visitable and a pedagogical forest again.

Participants will sleep in a house that supports QEMs activities, on mattresses and with their sleeping bags. There will be 2 shared rooms (separated by gender). There are hot water showers also separated by gender.Participants have to bring their own towels and hygiene products, sleeping bag or sheetsblanket, and pillow. The organization will provide breakfasts, lunches and dinners. Lunches and dinners are prepared/cooked served at a canteen from Santa Casa da MisericErdias social complex, but some lunches will be served in the field (sandwiches, fruits, etc.)
