DREAM SCHOOL ACTION is an International Workcamp focused on youth volunteering in a school context, in partnership with the Salvaterra de Magos School Cluster. The camp aims to improve and enhance school outdoor and common spaces, contributing to safer and more welcoming educational environments for children and young people through the voluntary work of international volunteers.
Description of work:
1- Cleaning and Maintenance of School Spaces:
Cleaning and organizing school buildings, outdoor areas and common spaces, including playgrounds, courtyards and circulation areas used daily by students and staff.
2- Improvement of Outdoor and Recreational Areas:
Repairing, painting and maintaining outdoor school furniture such as benches, tables and play structures; organizing and improving recreational areas to make them safer, more functional and welcoming for children and young people.
3- Maintenance of School Gardens and Green Areas:
Basic maintenance of school gardens and green spaces, including pruning plants and shrubs, removing weeds and leaves, and contributing to a clean and well-kept educational environment.
4- Support in Space Organization:
Assisting in the organization and preparation of indoor and outdoor school spaces, particularly in preparation for the new school year, ensuring functionality, safety and accessibility.
5- Support to the Educational Community:
Collaborating with the school community in maintaining a positive and welcoming environment, reinforcing respect for shared spaces and promoting a sense of collective responsibility.
All tasks will be carried out in close coordination with the School Cluster management and camp leaders, ensuring safety, organization and respect for the daily functioning of the educational environment.
Salvaterra de Magos
Description of location and leisure:
The camp takes place in Salvaterra de Magos, a picturesque town located in central Portugal, in the district of Santarém. The area is predominantly rural, characterized by agricultural landscapes, green fields and the proximity of the Tagus River, which contributes to a calm and pleasant natural environment. Despite its tranquil setting, Salvaterra de Magos benefits from good connections to nearby urban centres, allowing easy access to services and transport networks.
The location offers an ideal balance between nature and accessibility, providing a peaceful environment suitable for outdoor activities, social interaction and cultural exploration. The town includes essential local amenities such as small shops, cafés and community spaces, ensuring volunteers have the necessary conditions for a comfortable stay.

Description of accommodation and food:
Volunteers will be accommodated at INATEL Pavilion in Salvaterra de Magos. Accommodation is in a shared open space, without separated rooms, with male and female volunteers sleeping in the same area. Bathroom facilities are separated for male and female volunteers. Mattresses are provided; volunteers must bring a sleeping bag. Food is provided by the organisation. Breakfast is prepared individually by volunteers. Dinner is cooked by volunteers on a rotation basis. Lunch is usually prepared by the organisation. Cleaning and organisation of the space are done by volunteers together with the camp leaders. During weekdays, the space is shared with children, young people and other monitors.

- Valorization of natural and cultural heritage through participation in leisure activities and workshops.

Aveiro Portugal
Description of location and leisure:
The camp will take place at the Quinta Ecológica da Moita (QEM), a 14 hectares forest that locates at the village of Oliveirinha, in a rural setting near the city of Aveiro, here: https://maps.app.goo.gl/FP1VUruHVgReL2Fm9 QEM used to be a very active educational forest but it has been abandoned for a few years and needs restoration and maintenance work to become visitable and a pedagogical forest again.
Meeting Point and Time: Travelling from Porto by bus or train
There are direct buses from the Porto (Oporto) airport to Aveiro. If you can’t find a direct bus: just outside the airport take the metro (subway http://en.metrodoporto.pt/) to Porto – Campanhã main station (30min). At Campanhã, take a train or bus to Aveiro. Local trains are cheaper, but you need to buy the ticket at the counter. Faster trains (InterCidades or Alfa Pendular) are more expensive but can be booked online (www.cp.pt).
Travelling from Lisbon Airport by bus or train
Just outside the airport take the metro (subway http://www.metrolisboa.pt/eng/) to Oriente main station (10 min). At Oriente, there are trains and buses to Aveiro. There are Express Buses directly to Aveiro (about 3h; check Rede Expressos or FlixBus). Alternative: at Oriente main station take a train to Aveiro (fast trains are 2h). From Lisbon we recommend faster trains (InterCidades or Alfa Pendular) that can be booked online (www.cp.pt).

Participants will sleep in sports complex near QEM, on mattresses and with their sleeping bags. There will be 2 shared rooms (separated by gender). There are hot water showers also separated by gender in sports locker rooms.
Participants have to bring their own towels and hygiene products, sleeping bag or sheets+blanket, and pillow. The organization will provide breakfasts, lunches and dinners. Lunches and dinners are prepared/cooked served at a canteen from Santa Casa da Misericórdia’s social complex, but some lunches will be served in the field (sandwiches, fruits, etc.), as well as mid-morning and mid-afternoon snacks. There will be a vegetarian option.

Description of the partner organizing/hosting the project:
This workcamp offers young volunteers a meaningful opportunity to learn through action while actively contributing to the local community of Belmonte. Through hands-on social and socio-cultural activities, participants will engage with children, older adults, and vulnerable families, supporting inclusive initiatives that respond to real community needs.
Volunteers will also take part in the daily activities of the Social Shop, helping with the organisation and distribution of essential goods. The project is based on a shared-care and participatory approach, encouraging cooperation, proximity, and mutual support. All activities are supervised by local staff and adapted to each group, creating a welcoming space for intercultural exchange, personal growth, and a deeper understanding of local social realities.
Description of work:
Volunteers will actively support community-based social and socio-cultural initiatives in Belmonte. Their tasks include helping to organize and carry out activities for children, older adults, and vulnerable families, as well as supporting the daily operation of the Social Shop, including sorting and distributing food and essential goods.
Depending on community needs and the profile of the group, volunteers may also contribute to educational, cultural, recreational, or well-being initiatives. All tasks are hands-on, carried out in close cooperation with local staff and community members, and adapted to the abilities and interests of the volunteers.
Belmonte
Description of location and leisure:
The workcamp takes place in Belmonte, a small rural town in central Portugal with approximately 6,000 inhabitants. Located in the district of Castelo Branco, near the Serra da Estrela Natural Park, Belmonte offers a peaceful rural setting with strong community ties.The town is situated at approximately 40.36° N, 7.35° W, about 250 km from Lisbon and 200 km from Porto. Camp activities are carried out in local community and social facilities within the town.
Meeting Point and Time: From Lisbon Airport to Oriente Station
Oriente Station is located approximately 4 km from Lisbon Airport and is the main transport hub for national connections.
Metro: Fastest and most convenient option. Take the metro from Terminal 1 to Oriente Station. Travel time: ~10 minutes.
Taxi: Travel time: ~10 minutes. Approximate cost: €5.84.
Bus: Lines 208, 705, and 744 stop at Oriente Station. Travel time is longer than metro or taxi.

Participants will be accommodated in local housing facilities or similar structures in Belmonte, ensuring comfort, safety, and appropriate hygiene conditions throughout the stay. Accommodation consists of shared, non-mixed rooms, equipped with beds, storage space, and access to fully functional sanitary facilities with hot water and showers. Regular cleaning services are provided.
Free Wi-Fi is available in common areas and rooms. Common spaces are also available for social interaction, informal meetings, and rest.
Participants will receive three meals per day. Breakfast is organised in a self-service format at the accommodation, offering a variety of local products such as bread, dairy products, fruit, cereals, jams, and beverages. Lunch and dinner are served in a canteen-style setting, promoting group interaction and healthy routines. Meals are mainly based on Mediterranean cuisine, using fresh and local ingredients. Vegetarian, dietary, and special meal options (allergies, intolerances, cultural or health-related needs) are available upon prior request.

Description of the partner organizing/hosting the project:
- To support the local community, namely the Cooperative Cercimarante, an institution linked to young people with disabilities, in the preparation of the Street Theatre;
- Developing the autonomy and self-esteem of young people with disabilities;
- Stimulating the contact of young people with fewer opportunities with other young people from different cultures;
- Fostering the personal and social development of young volunteers through non-formal education activities;
- Providing young volunteers with knowledge of a new social and cultural reality enabling them to combat any kind of prejudice and stereotypes;
- To promote the preservation and protection of cultural heritage at international and local level through direct contact and inclusion of the participants with the community of Amarante and with the heritage of the region, organising public actions/events such as the Intercultural Night and presentation of the different countries and cultures;
- Promoting human rights and values of tolerance and respect.
Description of work:
Activities: group dynamics; presentation to the city and region; discussion on the workcamp theme (objectives, tasks division); visit to the most important places of the city; training on theatre performance and workshop on how to deal with the difference; direct contact and work with local NGO (Cercimarante) responsible for activities with local handicapped young people; organize an event (theatre performance) involving both groups (workcamp participants and local handicapped young people) to be presented to the local community (street performance – expected more than 500 persons to attend);
Amarante
Description of location and leisure:
Amarante is a small town in the North of Portugal, part of Porto district (60km far from Porto to the interior) with 12 thousand inhabitants (in the city center). It is a quite famous city for tourism, culture, and wine production. Indeed, is quite near (18km) the Oporto wine region. Is crossed by Tâmega River (one of the rivers ending at Douro River that crosses Porto till the Atlantic Ocean) and it is on the valley of one of the most important Portuguese mountains, Marão (1450m). Amarante is well located (nearby passes highway A4 connecting to Oporto and highway A11 connecting to Guimarães) and has a good public transport system (bus station). The city is 40 min way from the nearest airport (Oporto) by car.

Description of the partner organizing/hosting the project:
“Three days to change the world, three days to change your life”. This festival takes place only with the mobilization of volunteers who set up all the structures, spaces, recovering spaces in nature for sustainable use, preparing workshops, concerts and other workshops for children and adults, in a festival aimed at the whole family. During the festival, participants will have the chance to meet different people, prepare workshops but also engage in other workshops from dances, meditation, arts, communication, education, gardening and many other subjects related to ecology and personal development, but also take part in the concerts and dj sets that happen during the evening and night, discovering world, folklore and indie music from different regions of the world. The Ecofestival https://www.facebook.com/terramaeecofestival plays an important role in community life and local development in what concerns awareness raising on ecology and sustainability and it is nominated in 2025 for Best Small Festival, Best Cultural Programme, Contribution to Sustainability and Best Venue (Quinta do Minhoto) pelos Iberian Festival Awards 2025.
Description of work:
The tasks are as described: to maintain and increase an organic, educational and community garden; to implement the aromatic garden and create spaces and dynamics to support activities and workshops with children and families as part of the Terra Mãe Ecofestival; to build composters for organic recycling (for the Ecofestival and for awareness-raising workshops); to recover 6 dry toilets for use at the Festival; to recover spaces for leisure and socializing among families at Quinta do Minhoto; to support the workshops and concerts happening at the Ecofestival, ensuring security of the spaces, hosting artists and other tasks related to the festival.
Fornelos
Description of location and leisure:
It is a very natural place by the river, but with all conditions for camping, hygiene (dry toilets and showers). It is located in Fornelos at the Quinta do Minhoto (http://quintadominhoto.com/), in a rural place in the north of Portugal (Fafe city, 20 minutes from Guimarães city centre and 50 minutes from Guimarães to Porto airport). From the camp location, participants can easily reach small shops to get personal items, a caffe and a church. It is also possible to reach on foot the city centre of Fafe (25minutes walking), where more services can be found.
Meeting Point and Time: From the airport of Porto, participants can travel with the transfer bus that goes directly to Guimarães bus station (in 50minutes). The company names are getbus or flixbus and tickets and schedule can be checked at getbus.eu or flixbus.pt. The ticket costs 9€ for one way or 16€ for both ways (fixed price for getbus, but it is variable and usually cheaper on flixbus). From the bus station in Guimarães, all participants will be picked up.

Description of accommodation and food:
Participants will be living in tents (for individuals or two people) in a part of the farm with available hot and cold showers and dry toilets. A kitchen complex is an indoor building where participants will have breakfast, lunch and dinner. Snacks in the morning and in the afternoon will be displayed for those who want in the outdoor space of the kitchen. The kitchen complex has an “electrical corner” to plug devices for charging, but we highly recommend participants to go offline or reduce the use of digital devices to take as much from the experience as possible. There is no internet in the place as we are in the middle of the nature.
Meals offered are exclusively vegetarian and inside the farm you should not bring meat (if having meat is very important for you, please be aware to choose another workcamp).
Participants can wash their clothes the manual way and dry it to the sun (we will provide natural soap and conditions for it).

Invasive species 3.0 aims to promote environmental education and reflect/raise awareness about the importance of preserving the environment, the impact of invasive species on ecosystems, the importance of controlling and managing invasive species and sustainable growth, through initiative to control and manage 5 invasive species in the municipality of Fornos de Algodres.As for leisure activities, we will have visits (to the museum, library, river beach, social solidarity institutions), intercultural evenings, sports activities, traditional games, parties, swimming pool, cultural activities, ect.In Workcamp, the days will be organized in this way: during the morning and beginning the afternoon the participants do their volunteering work, during second half of the afternoon and night the participants will have the leisure activities.
Description of work:
During the Workcamp participants will perform the following tasks: Learn 6 methods/techniques to control invasive species (Strike/Herbicide injection, pulling, peeling, mowing, mowing application of herbicides and natural control);Apply the most appropriate control techniques to the 4 species selected in the municipality of Fornos de Algodres;Prepare publicity/awareness-raising materials about the advantages/importance of controlling and managing invasive species with a view to environmental sustainability.Raise awareness among the population of the importance of environmental sustainability.Remove rubbish improperly deposited in intervention spaces.

Description of the partner organizing/hosting the project:
Following the work that Marca ADL has been developing over the past years on the themes of Climate Change, Sustainability, and Green Economy, this year we intend to encourage reflection on the role of citizens and organisations in mitigating the impacts of climate change, particularly in terms of local biodiversity, and to provide practical knowledge about flora native species and tools for action at an individual level and in the territories where we operate.
1) Raise awareness about the importance of youth mobilization and participation in solving local and global problems;
2) Promoting youth participation and involvement in environmental and social issues, in particular in the management of natural resources and biodiversity;
3) Reflect on the causes and consequences of climate change and ways to act as citizens, particularly in terms of managing natural resources and biodiversity;
4) Reflect on the importance of autochthonous flora species for biodiversity and territory management
5)To support Marca in setting up and maintaining a nursery of Mediterranean flora species
6) Promote reflection on sustainable behaviours, tools that help these behaviours, namely in terms of consumption and their impacts on the management of natural resources and biodiversity.
Description of work:
The project includes a set of environmental conservation and sustainability education actions, including the collection and sorting of native plant seeds for the creation of micro-reserves, the cleaning and rehabilitation of temporary watercourses with control of invasive species and reforestation with native species, and the production and maintenance of native plants in a nursery. Also support the construction and maintenance of nursery infrastructure. Supporting the watering of existing plantations and maintenance of interventions in public green spaces.
Montemor-o-Novo
Description of location and leisure:
This camp takes place in a rural territory, close to a small city, Montemor-o-Novo in Alentejo region, Portugal. The camp will be at a 7 minutes distance by car from Montemor-o-Novo, transport for the activities will be assured.
It is located at approximately at a 100 km distance from Lisbon, the Portuguese city capital and 35km from Évora.
Meeting Point and Time: From Lisbon Airport:
1. take the metro (red line) at the airport - it's the only metro line;
2. You have to change lines, at the end of the red line – in S. Sebastião - To the blue line towards the Jardim Zoológico (Zoo);
3. It's only 2 stops, when you get to the Jardim Zoológico (Zoo) stop, you leave and follow the signs to the bus station.
From Lisbon, in the bus station take the bus to Montemor-o-Novo and enjoy the trip of about 1 hour.

Description of the partner organizing/hosting the project:
The main goals of this workcamp are the recovery of rural heritage, enhancing the biodiversity of our Center, and promoting the animal welfare of donkeys and their quality of life. We want to o enable the discovery of the Miranda Plateau, a unique rural region, rich in natural beauty, biodiversity, culture and traditions. With so aging population in these villages, one of the goals is bringing together the young participants and the local community, therefore promoting intercultural (urban/rural, international/national) and intergenerational (youngsters/ elderly) encounters and exchanges.
Description of work:
• Promote the animal welfare of donkeys - feed the animals and help with their basic care tasks
• Maintenance and improvement of the infrastructure of the donkey shelter
• Dry stone wall rebuilding
• Support autochthonous biodiversity
• Building and placing nest boxes for birds
• Activities to support local community
• Construction of fence
• Creation of materials for the environmental enrichment of spaces designated for donkeys
Miranda do Douro
Description of location and leisure:
The accommodation is located in Palancar village, geographically included in the Natura 2000 network and Douro Internacional Natural Park, about 6 kms from Miranda do Douro city. Located in a rural area in the northeast of Portugal, very close to the border with Spain, it’s a village that suffers aging population problems, which makes these experiences very important for the rural development of this region.

Description of accommodation and food:
Basic housing with electricity – with one large room equipped with bunk beds, one living room, WC, and showers with hot water. Important note: the accommodation facility does not provide separate sleeping areas for males and females. The showers are mixed, while the toilets are separated for men and women.
There is no bar in the village neither a supermarket, but if something is needed, we can easily support the volunteers to get it. Volunteers who want extra privacy can bring camping tents. There’s good wifi in the proximity of the accommodation, more precisely at the CAB office, which is in the village.

Description of the partner organizing/hosting the project:
General objectives:
- Valorization and promotion of natural and cultural heritage (namely, the ecosystems of the delicate Pateira of Frossos);
- Promotion of sustainability, environmental awareness, and biodiversity protection;
- Promotion of intercultural relationships, good environmental practices, and citizenship;
- Promotion of specific skills in the field of cultural and natural heritage protection.
Specific objectives:
- Maintenance of walking trails;
- Improvement of habitats for fauna and pollinators;
- Removal of invasive species and prevention of forest fires by controlling shrubs and invasive vegetation.
- Installation of shelters for wildlife and pollinating insects;
- Improvement and protection of biodiversity and ecosystem services;
- Urban cleaning actions;
- Valorization of natural and cultural heritage through participation in leisure activities and workshops

- Restoration work of some degraded pathways and natural heritage;
- Maintenance and improvement of gardens for pollinators;
- Vegetation trimming and removal;
- Improvement of walking trails;
- Improvement of local fauna, flora, and landscape, including fire prevention actions;

Albergaria a Velha
Description of location and leisure:

Meeting Point and Time: There are some Express Bus from the airport to Aveiro (Rede Expressos or FlixBus). If you can’t find a direct bus to Aveiro: just outside the airport take the metro (subway http://en.metrodoporto.pt/) to Porto – Campanhã main station (30min ride). At Campanhã, take a train directly to Cacia (local train), or a faster train to Aveiro, and from Aveiro a local train to Cacia.
In Aveiro, the train main station and the bus main station are about 100m apart. Local trains take about 5 minutes from Aveiro to Cacia and cost ~1.60€. Tickets for local trains must be purchased at the station (counter or automatic machine) – no online sale available for local trains (just for faster trains). Description of accommodation and food:
Participants will sleep in the Casa do Voluntário (House of the Volunteer) in Frossos, Albergaria-a-Velha, in shared rooms (separated by sex) with beds. There will be locker rooms with hot water showers also separated by sex.
Participants have to bring their own towels and hygiene products, sleeping bag or sheets+blanket, and pillow. The organization will provide breakfasts, lunches and dinners. Lunches and dinners are prepared/cooked by the municipality’s staff and served at a canteen, but some lunches will be served in the field (sandwiches, fruits, etc.). There’s a vegetarian option

Description of the partner organizing/hosting the project:
DREAM CARE ACTION is an International Workcamp developed in partnership with the Santa Casa da Misericórdia of Salvaterra de Magos, an institution dedicated to the care and support of elderly people. The camp aims to involve international volunteers in voluntary actions that contribute to the improvement and enhancement of spaces used by the elderly, promoting well-being, dignity and quality of life for residents. At the same time, the project seeks to strengthen intergenerational solidarity, civic engagement and international cooperation through volunteering in a social care context.
Description of work:
1. Cleaning and Maintenance of Institutional Spaces:
Cleaning and organising outdoor and common areas of the elderly care institution, including patios, walkways, leisure areas and shared spaces used by residents and staff.
2. Improvement of Outdoor and Leisure Areas:
Repairing, painting and maintaining outdoor furniture such as benches, tables and other elements used by the elderly; organising and improving leisure areas to make them safer, more functional and welcoming.
3. Gardens and Green Areas Maintenance:
Basic maintenance of gardens and green spaces within the institution, including pruning shrubs and plants, removing weeds and leaves, and contributing to a pleasant and well-kept environment.
4. Support in Space Organisation:
Assisting in the organisation and preparation of outdoor and common spaces used for daily activities and moments of rest, always respecting accessibility and comfort needs of elderly residents.
5. Intergenerational and Social Support Activities:
Collaborating in simple intergenerational activities, such as informal social moments, outdoor leisure activities or shared interactions with residents, promoting social inclusion, companionship and well-being.
All tasks will be carried out in close coordination with the institution’s staff and camp leaders, ensuring respect for the well-being, safety, dignity and daily routines of the elderly residents.
Description of location and leisure:
The camp takes place in Salvaterra de Magos, a picturesque town located in central Portugal, in the district of Santarém. The area is predominantly rural, characterised by agricultural landscapes, green fields and the proximity of the Tagus River, which contributes to a calm and pleasant natural environment. Despite its tranquil setting, Salvaterra de Magos benefits from good connections to nearby urban centres, allowing easy access to services and transport networks.
The location offers an ideal balance between nature and accessibility, providing a peaceful environment suitable for outdoor activities, social interaction and cultural exploration. The town includes essential local amenities such as small shops, cafés and community spaces, ensuring volunteers have the necessary conditions for a comfortable stay.

At Oriente Station, take a CP - Comboios de Portugal train on the line that goes to Vila Franca de Xira. The train journey between Estação Oriente and Vila Franca de Xira takes around 20 to 30 minutes.

When you arrive at Vila Franca de Xira Station, you will need to take the last part of the route to the Salvaterra de Magos Municipal Sports Pavilion.

Description of accommodation and food:
Volunteers will be accommodated at INATEL Pavilion in Salvaterra de Magos. Accommodation is in a shared open space, without separated rooms, with male and female volunteers sleeping in the same area. Bathroom facilities are separated for male and female volunteers. Mattresses are provided; volunteers must bring a sleeping bag. Food is provided by the organisation. Breakfast is prepared individually by volunteers. Dinner is cooked by volunteers on a rotation basis. Lunch is usually prepared by the organisation. Cleaning and organisation of the space are done by volunteers together with the camp leaders. During weekdays, the space is shared with children, young people and other monitors.
