The Rochefort-en-Yvelines town hall and the Historical Society join forces to host international volunteers every year. The association's volunteers are always ready to give us a tour of the village's iconic sites and lend a hand on the worksite!
Description of work:
The Rochefort-en-Yvelines castle, known as "Château Gui Le Rouge", has been listed as a historic monument since 1931. This fascinating site was a strategic fortress at the crossroads of trade routes. For the past four years, volunteers from around the world have been bringing this place back to life by clearing the ruins and opening new access paths. Thanks to them, the village and its 12th-century church have regained an unforgettable view.
Last year, several promising historical elements were already uncovered during volunteer vegetation-clearing workcamps, which made it possible to reveal the ruins of Gui Le Rouge Castle. The study of former excavations and the site’s geophysical surveys have since brought new information to light. You will take part in the first archaeological excavations and contribute to advancing the research. Supervised by a passionate professional, you will join the team to explore the castle and uncover traces of the past hidden beneath modern rubble. Little by little, the castle will reveal its secrets… and you will be part of this collective discovery. An immersive experience that will be the first stage of an archaeological assessment prior to possible professional excavations. No skills required: just your motivation and your desire to live a unique human and scientific adventure!

Description of work:
Help restore a historic cobbled path at the entrance to the town of Bazas, in the middle of the Entre-deux-Mers vineyards!
You'll start this restoration project by clearing the weeds between the stones and then repairing the joints that have been destroyed through time. The section you'll be working on corresponds to one of the historic entrances of the town, which is surrounded by walls. The path goes under a stone gate, the Porte du Gisquet. You will be supervised by a technical guide who will teach you various traditional methods.
BAZAS

The town of Bazas is the capital of the “Bazadais” region and a former bishopric, it has preserved a wealth of monuments, some of which date back to the Middle Ages and are symbolized by the Saint-Jean-Baptiste cathedral.
During the summer season, the town of Bazas organizes numerous events and village festivals, which you'll have the chance to take part in. With its market, cathedral, cafés, craftsmen and narrow streets, Bazas is a lively village! There are many natural sites in the area, including spots for kayaking and canoeing.

Description of the partner organizing/hosting the project:
Over the course of a weekend, the International Journalism Festival transforms the village of Couthures-sur-Garonne and its 300 inhabitants into a vibrant hub for meetings and debates. Workshops, live performances, and film screenings shape the life of the village around a central theme: current affairs and journalism. At the heart of the event, the international workcamp adds a strong intercultural dimension, encouraging artistic and intergenerational exchanges. Sponsored by the Le Monde group and set in an exceptional natural environment, this festival combines critical reflection, sharing, and conviviality.
Description of work:
The aim of this workcamp is to contribute to the smooth running of the festival by joining the volunteer and organizing team. Alongside local residents, you will take part in preparing the site (logistics, setting up barriers, assembling tents, etc.). During the festival, you may also help welcome the public and will have the opportunity to attend conferences. Knowledge of French is appreciated to facilitate exchanges with visitors and the organizing team. Working time will be 5 to 6 hours per day, spread over the stay in coordination with the festival staff.
