The Regional Nature Reserve of Lorraine is a classified territory thanks to the quality of its cultural and natural heritage. A joint management union's mission is to ensure the preservation of its biodiversity and its landscapes, while promoting sustainable local economic development. Among the projects that the Park Union is currently implementing is the preservation and enhancement of several works in dry stone, action that receives the support of the INTERREG IVA program Greater Region of the European Union.
You will restore a small dry stone wall that supports an enchanting path. You will work side by side with other international volunteers and a specialized team leader who will accompany you through the art of dry stone!
The site is located in the heart of the verdant Rupt Valley (river) of Mad, a tributary of the Moselle which has carved the Lorraine limestone plateau. Lorraine is an ancient cultural region. Historically, the Lorraine was a frontier territory between the French and Germanic entities and consequently the theater of major military conflicts. Today, marks of this history that is still visible. The multimillennial city of Metz, with its vast and varied architectural heritage, is only a few kilometers from Rupt de Mad. Close to the accommodation you will find the Lake Madine, the largest lake in the region and important recreational area with, among others, two beaches for swimming.

Description of the partner organizing/hosting the project:
A.D.A.D.A is the oldest national donkey defence and protection organisation in France, created in 1968. The original aim are was to take care of donkeys in order to avoid their extinction. The organisation has been recognised as an organisation of public interet in 2008. Today, A.D.A.D.A intervenes on a national level and hosts donkeys in its rescue center, at Ambert, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. 325 donkeys and mules of all ages can be nursed and rehabilited. More than 70 hectares are made available so the donkeys can "blossom" in a pleasant environment.

Description of work:
This project's aims is to help the organisation for the donkey's protection tasks: enclose the meadow around Ambert (place stakes, wire-fences) and build winter stables (salvage wood pallet, build enclosures and fences). Added to all these manual works, you take part in the organisation's life and meet local volunteers!

Ambert is located in the Régional Natural park of Livradois-Forez in the area of Puy-de-Dôme Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. City is known for its gastronomy and its cheese: la Fourme d'Ambert. It's an area of medium mountains, with a very extended fauna and flora, several waterways, a rich cultural heritage and craftspeople using the region's typical savoir-faire that you would discover while (beautifuls) rambling, walks, hustle and bustle/ activities and locals meetings.

The accomodation will be in the charming organisation's wood and stone farm surrounded by Ambert's nature. The farm is located at 4km from the city center. The farm is not equiped with beds. We will prvide floor mats; you can also bring inflatable mattresse, Don't forget your sleeping bags! Two showers, restrooms and a kitchen are available on the spot. Daily life is managed by the volunteers (meal preparation, errand/shopping and cleaning).
