This project is initiated in response to the gradual decline of historic town centers in rural Taiwan, where rich cultural landscapes face challenges caused by urban migration, aging populations, and the abandonment of traditional buildings. Xiluo Township, located in central Taiwan, is a representative example of this situation. With a history of more than 360 years, Xiluo was once an important agricultural and commercial hub closely connected to river transportation and regional trade. However, as transportation routes shifted and younger generations moved to major cities, many historic streets and houses were left vacant and deteriorating.Yanping Historical Street is the cultural heart center of Xiluo. During the Japanese colonial period, the town was planned as a modern model city. Between 1925 and 1945, a large number of buildings were constructed along Yanping Street, forming a unique streetscape characterized by Art Deco facades and hybrid architectural styles. These buildings reflect not only architectural trends of the time but also the economic prosperity and daily life of the town s residents. Today, although 142 historic houses still stand along the street, many of them are empty, weathered, and disconnected from everyday community life.The purpose behind this project is not only to repair physical structures, but also to restore the relationship between people, space, and local culture. Heritage preservation, in this context, is understood as a living process rather than a static display. Old houses regain meaning only when people enter them, work in them, and create new memories within them.The project is organized by the Louyoung Education and Culture Foundation, whose mission is to promote cultural preservation, community education, and local revitalization in Yunlin County. The foundation has already undertaken numerous activities, including the restoration of historic buildings, international workshops, and long-term artist residency programs.We also run the Community college, which focuses on lifelong learning, civic engagement, and community-based education. Through courses and public programs, it encourages residents to actively participate in shaping their local environment and cultural future.Achievements over the past yearThe Lou-young Education and Culture Foundation has collaborated with VYA Taiwan since 2009, organizing a total of 19 international volunteer camps to date. Participants have come from Japan, South Korea, Vietnam, Hong Kong, China, Thailand, Italy, France, Spain, Belgium, the United States, the Czech Republic, and Germany. Over the years, 300 more international young people have taken part in the revitalization of Xiluo Township, becoming important partners in local community development.With the continued support and participation of the volunteer camp, the Luoyang Education and Culture Foundation launched cultural projects such as the Xiluo Contemporary Art Festival and the Xiluo Old Street

Description of work:
1.The foundation will provide all participants with work gloves and dust masks. Under the guidance of professional instructors, volunteers will participate in environmental cleaning, moving large furniture, and basic bricklaying and painting. These activities will focus on the restoration and revitalization of the historic buildings at No. 110 and No. 112, helping to revitalize the old community and lay the foundation for creating shared learning spaces in the future.2.The event will take place during Taiwan s summer vacation, when the weather is hot and there is no air conditioning in the historic buildings. Participants are advised to stay hydrated and take precautions against sunburn.3.Participants will have the opportunity to learn about various organic vegetables and their production process, and experience farm life.4.We will collaborate with local residents to create public art pieces and improve the community environment.

We will stay in Xiluo Backpacker House (No.81). The house is close to Xiluo Cultural Museum and features comfortable beds, air conditioner, toilet, hot shower and kitchen in the House . Volunteers are sure to have a wonderful time here. The backpacker house belongs to Rotary Club of Xiluo. They always welcome the volunteers and as return, we need to maintain good management (to always keep clean, no smoking indoors, etc.).During the project, we will mainly use bicycles for transportation, so please ensure you are proficient at cycling. We will be cooking our own meals, but there will also be opportunities to eat at local restaurants or purchase packed meals.Internet access is available at the Lou-young Foundation office, the backpacker house, and the Volunteer House.Breakfast and Lunch will be provided communally during the camp, and volunteers can dine with local community members. Xisanliao Community is situated in Taichung City, in close proximity to Da-Du mountain. Although not located in the countryside, the community retains its rural charm with approximately 60 percent of the residents engaged in farming activities, predominantly cultivating crops such as wheat, rice, and other grains. Over the past decade, the establishment of the Central Taiwan Science Park adjacent to our community has prompted many young individuals to return to their roots.Adding to the unique features of our community, Taichung International Airport, which was once the largest air force base in the Far East during the 1960s, is situated nearby. Additionally, there is a Japanese school within our community, enriching the cultural diversity of our surroundings. By embracing this diverse range of cultures, we aspire to create a thriving and cohesive Xiu-Shan Community for all its residents.Aims:1.Preservation Lion Head culture: During the workcamp, volunteers will make their own lion head and painting. The lion head is an indispensable part of the traditional lion dance performance in Xiushan community. We believe that through hands-on participation in this activity, our community can transform into a vibrant folk art village, promoting our rich cultural heritage.2.Community Health promotion: Participate in community senior care service activities, with international volunteers leading seniors in health promotion activities (three days a week) to encourage seniors to leave their homes and enjoy their golden years.3.Encourage youth engagement in local activities: We hope that by having international volunteers participate in community activities, we can make community youth more interested in participating in community activities, have the opportunity to interact and exchange ideas with international youth, and understand cultural diversity.

Description of work:
1.To encourage seniors to participate in community activities and attract them to participate in various community events, the community organizes senior care and support activities, health promotion activities, and cultural and artistic exchange activities five days a week. Volunteers will assist in arranging these activities and facilitating cultural exchanges with local seniors.2.By experiencing and creating traditional handicrafts such as Songjiang lion head performances, lion head painting, and Ghost Festival rituals, international youth can learn about the local community s traditional culture, thereby protecting and promoting these cultures.3.To protect the community s important cultural heritage and to take this opportunity to promote and exchange it, this project will invite community kung fu masters, local arts instructors, and craft experts to organize a series of community cultural activities. During the activities, international volunteers can create and paint lion heads in various styles, and experience Songjiang lion dance performances, Guanjiang hand gestures, and Bajiajiang facial mask painting.4.The event will also facilitate multicultural exchange, as there are Japanese international schools and indigenous schools nearby. International cultural exchanges will take place with them during the event.5.60 of the community members are engaged in farming. During the program, international volunteers will also experience farming, weeding in the fields, learning about Taiwan s summer seasonal fruits and vegetables and harvesting, and cooking vegetable dishes to share with the community s elderly.6.Assisting in the maintenance of the community garden and surrounding environment, including trail maintenance, weeding, and fruit tree maintenance.

Taichung Port, located in the Wuqi District of Taichung, is the second-largest international commercial port in Taiwan and the 97th largest in the world. MITSUI OUTLET PARK is the first seaport-themed shopping mall in the Taichung port district of Taiwan. Our community, Dazhuang Community, is situated in the Taichung port district and is the largest community in Wuqi District with a strong agricultural culture. The blend of urban and traditional cultures makes Dazhuang Community a unique cultural feature in the area. It also has the highest population of both elderly and young people, with one out of every nine residents being an elder. As a result, Dazhuang Community has been dedicated to taking care of the elderly and will organize more plans and activities for teenagers in 2019. With more volunteers joining the community, we hope to offer better care and education to the elderly and young people and infuse much vigor into the community.Goals:1.Learn about the culture of Chinese Temple in Taiwan.2.Volunteers can participate in health promotion activities with elders and share their exotic cultures with children to broaden horizons and give local people unique country experiences.3.We hope that the younger generation in the community will be able to introduce our unique features to international volunteers, making them more interested in participating in our community activities during and after the camp.

Description of work:
1.Elders company: The community holds health activities five times a week. Volunteers will participate, design interesting games, and prepare performances so that elders can experience different country cultures, have fun, and learn new things from different perspectives. 2.Assist in preparing for local Halloween and Ghost Festival ceremony: Prepare for the annual Zhongyuan Festival (Ghost Festival) activities of Chinese Dao temples with community people and share ghost-related festive culture in your countries with everyone.3.Organize cultural activities for children: Organizing various cultural sharing activities, including sharing national cultures, your hometown, games, music, dance, or food, to help local children learn about cultural diversity and broaden their horizons.

Taichung City Chang-You Caring AssociationDongxin Story Exchange workcamp 2026 is an 8-day international volunteer workcamp hosted by Taichung City Chang-You Caring Association in Taichung City. The workcamp combines three local services(1) community care for the elderly and meal service, (2) day care services for people with disabilities, and (3) a community supply bank (providing matching donations for disadvantaged families)with a special program called Ocean Dreams : accompanying children and their families on an overnight program at the National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium. Through companionship, simple logistical support, and story-based cultural exchange, volunteers help build an inclusive community where seniors, people with disabilities, children, and international youth can learn from and grow together. The schedule will be planned based on the community s daily services and children s after-school photo schedule. On the fourth day (Friday), the community will host an International Cultural Night and a Marine Dream Pledge Ceremony, where seniors, children s families, and residents will gather to enhance team cohesion and prepare for their early departure on the fifth day.Achievements over the past years (highlights):1.Provide ongoing elderly care services, including regular community meals, gatherings, and events.2.Operate a day care service for people with disabilities and a community supply depot (sorting and distributing donated goods).3.Organize international cultural exchange activities in collaboration with local temples and community partners.Aims:1.Silver Age Vitality: Support senior citizen programs and achieve over 100 participants during the camp.2.Storytelling Book: Collaborate on the creation of a bilingual community storybook (mini-magazine/PDF) and a 60-90 second engaging video (with consent).3.Ocean Dreams: Accompany approximately 30 children through an overnight experience at the Ocean Museum, enhancing their confidence and global awareness.4.Community Inclusion: Attract 50-80 residents to a intercultural exchange evening, strengthening local and international solidarity.

Zhongli District in Taoyuan City was originally a Hakka settlement. In Hakka, the valley is called Li, and the area surrounded by the Laojie River and Xinjie River was called Jianzai. During the Japanese occupation, this area was renamed Zhongli Street, becoming a major thoroughfare connecting the north and south.The area along the Laojie River(32769;34903;28330;) is known as the Old Street Area, preserving Japanese-style architecture, century-old shops, and a rich Hakka culture. The Laojie River itself has profoundly influenced the lifestyle of the local residents. However, with the passage of time, many local youths and immigrants are no longer familiar with the historical background of this area. Wuqi District is located on a plain between the Da an River and the Dadu River, bordering Qingshui District to the north, Shalu District to the east, Longjing District to the south, and the Taiwan Strait to the west. Today, Wuqi s coastline is connected to Taichung Port. As a coastal town, Wuqi s development history is inextricably linked to the rise and fall of its port.Wuqi was formerly known as Zhuofaxie and Wuqi Port. During the Daoguang period of the Qing Dynasty, it was called Ao Xi. In the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty (1891), it was renamed Wuqi Port, meaning the phoenix does not perch on places other than Wuqi, does not drink from springs other than the sacred spring, and does not eat bamboo .On December 25, 2010, Wuqi Township was upgraded to Wuqi District as part of the merger of Taichung County and City into a special municipality. Although the administrative area is not vast, it still has a deep cultural tourism potential, especially its rich cultural assets, such as local historical relics, historical buildings, and local folk culture, which are all worth seeing.In the past few years of its prosperous years, temples have also become ubiquitous buildings in Wuqi, reflecting the piety of the ancestors to religion and their expectations for life. When the northeast monsoon blows, local eels migrate, leading to a proliferation of seafood restaurants in Wuqi. The purpose of this activity is to understand the importance of preserving the environment of the port area and to learn about the historical buildings in the port area of Taichung City, such as the traditional houses in Wuqi Old Street. Participants will learn about traditional architecture and its reuse methods. Furthermore, this activity will allow participants to experience the local customs, industries, and lifestyle of Taichung Port.

A century ago, Yenping Street was the downtown with prosperity, but nowadays, as business gradually declined, the residents moved away from Xiluo and Yenping Street have become quieter. As a result, many houses have started to decay. Because of the Community Renaissance movement conducted by Luoyoung Foundation and local government, the street becomes prosperous again In the past 9 years, we have invited many cultural groups and artists to visit and stay in Xiluo, and host different performances. At the same time, we are committed to promoting the art of sculpture and reserve more than 40 pieces of public art for Xiluo. They are arranged at the head of the Grand Xiluo Bridge and the Sculpture Park. We also hosted 11 international work camps focusing on renovating heritage houses.However, there are many sculptures that need to be refurbished, painted, maintained, and guaranteed. The blend of urban and traditional cultures makes Dazhuang Community a unique cultural feature in the area. It also has the highest population of both elderly and young people, with one out of every nine residents being an elder. As a result, Dazhuang Community has been dedicated to taking care of the elderly and will organize more plans and activities for teenagers in 2019. Guanglong Community is located in the southeastern part of Taiping District at the foot of Chelongpu Mountain Range. It is bordered to the north by Xinglong Village, to the south by Yonglong Village, and to the west by Changyi Village, with the Toubiankeng River serving as the natural boundary. With an area of 3.1059 square kilometers, it is a village that was reborn after experiencing the horrible quake happened in Sep. 21st 1999.This project aims to provide a meaningful holiday experience by pairing volunteers with children in need of guidance and support in their learning journey. Participants will engage in activities such as reading, tutoring, and creative workshops, fostering an encouraging environment for the kids growth and development. Aims:Taiping District is a peripheral area of Taichung City, and Guanglong. Village is a quiet community located in the Chelongpu region of Taiping.Due to the scarcity and unequal distribution of resources, children have limited access to education, particularly in English learning environments. Faced with these challenges, the local community still lacks a comprehensive understanding of its own culture and social values.To address these issues, we aim to host a workcamp in Guanglong, fostering global understanding, sparking children s interest in learning, and enhancing their English abilities through in-depth interactions between local residents and international youth.Project Objectives:1.Enrich learning experiences in Guanglong by introducing new companionship programs led by both global and local volunteers.2.Promote friendship, understanding, and cultural exchange by involving local residents and international volunteers in agricultural activities.3.Lay the foundation for children s international perspective and inspire their diverse creative abilities.4.International Culinary Exchange: Enriching the culinary experiences of community residents by learning and sharing cooking techniques from different countries.
