** 이 프로그램은 2024 동계 전남대학교 워크캠프 파견 단원에 한해 지원 가능합니다.
The Center for Sustainable Development (CSD) began in 2014 as the CYA Learning Center (CLC), with the aims to promote higher education among local children and teenagers, preserve and protect local cultural heritage, and improve the living conditions of local people.
Volunteers have been the cornerstone of CSD’s success. They started by building bamboo classrooms, designing our beautiful library and stocking it with thousands of books, donating computers for our computer classes, and teaching English, music, arts, and sports to local students. Remarkably, all our services are offered free of charge. In addition to supporting our non-formal education programs, volunteers play a crucial role in engaging the community. They help organize events and ceremonies to preserve local cultural heritage and foster community spirit. The presence of volunteers has brought significant changes to the lives of local people. Improvements in hygiene and sanitation, the growth of small grocery shops, and enhanced family incomes are just a few examples. At CSD, volunteers not only contribute to the community but also gain invaluable experiences. They learn about the local lifestyle, adapt to local living conditions, make friends, expand their global network, and discover their career and life goals.
In essence, volunteers initiated CLC and have been pivotal in transforming the community while also experiencing personal growth and learning. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our partners for their continuous support and for sending us motivated volunteers

Description of the partner organizing/hosting the project:
The Angkor Thom Community Tourism project is a new initiative by Cambodian Youth Action (CYA), the Cambodian National Youth Center, and Leang Dai Commune, aimed at empowering local communities through sustainable tourism while preserving the cultural heritage of the Angkor Thom area. The project offers visitors authentic cultural experiences, including guided tours, eco-tourism activities, and locally made handicrafts. Volunteers play a key role in supporting these initiatives by assisting with tour operations, promoting local crafts, and organizing educational games and activities for children at the community kindergarten. This project provides a unique opportunity for volunteers to immerse themselves in Cambodian culture, contribute to community development, and support the growth of a sustainable local economy. Volunteers passionate about cultural exchange, education, and sustainable development will find this project particularly rewarding.
Description of work:
Volunteers at the Angkor Thom Community Tourism project can engage in the following activities:
1. Promotion of Handicrafts: Helping local artisans produce and promote traditional handicrafts to visitors, contributing to the economic growth of the community.
2. Community Kindergarten Support: Organizing educational games, teaching English, and leading activities to support the learning and development of local children.
3. Eco-Tourism Initiatives: Participating in environmental conservation efforts, such as cleaning campaigns or promoting sustainable tourism practices.
4. Cultural Exchange Activities: Facilitating cultural exchange sessions with local community members and visitors to foster mutual understanding and appreciation.
These activities offer volunteers a chance to make a lasting impact on the community while gaining a deeper understanding of Cambodia’s heritage and culture.
Description of location and leisure:
During free time and weekends, volunteers at the Angkor Thom Community Tourism project can explore Siem Reap’s rich culture by visiting Angkor Wat, local markets, or nearby eco-tourism villages. They can relax with activities like cycling, boat trips on Tonle Sap Lake, or enjoying social events at the center, such as movie nights and cultural exchanges, ensuring a fun and fulfilling experience.
Description of accommodation and food:
Volunteers will be accommodated in a shared house of the host family, equipped with basic amenities to ensure a comfortable stay. Each volunteer will be provided with a mattress, pillow, blanket, and mosquito net for restful sleep. The house also includes access to bath and toilet facilities for personal hygiene. Meals will be prepared by a local chef, with volunteers expected to assist with tasks such as serving, cleaning, and washing dishes. Description of the partner organizing/hosting the project:
The CYA-Learning Center (CLC) was established in 2014 with a focused mission: to provide English education to local children and teenagers. What began as a modest bamboo classroom has grown into a thriving educational hub, thanks to the dedication of local and international volunteers. Today, CLC is equipped with modern facilities, including well-furnished English classrooms, a library, and a computer center, creating a nurturing environment for learning and personal growth.
CLC’s impact extends beyond academics. The center actively engages the community in practical activities such as vegetable gardening, soap-making workshops, and classroom renovation projects. These initiatives not only teach valuable life skills but also foster sustainability and continually enhance the center's infrastructure.
The evolution of CLC stands as a testament to the power of collective action and volunteerism. It showcases how shared dedication and effort can bring meaningful and lasting change to a community.
We invite you to join us at CYA-Learning Center and be part of this transformative journey.
Your time, expertise, and passion can make a profound difference in empowering local children and uplifting their communities. Together, we can continue building a future filled with opportunity, hope, and positive impact.
Description of work:
Volunteers at the CYA-Learning Center (CLC) play a vital role in creating meaningful learning experiences and fostering community development. Through diverse and impactful activities, they help bridge gaps in education and provide opportunities that children and teenagers do not receive in public schools. Volunteers will:
1. Teach English and Essential Skills – Support students in improving their language abilities and life skills.
2. Develop and Implement Programs – Design and deliver creative curricula and workshops.
3. Engage in Hands-On Projects – Participate in activities like vegetable gardening, soap-making workshops, and classroom renovations.
4. Foster Cultural Exchange – Share knowledge and experiences while learning from local culture and traditions.
By contributing to these initiatives, volunteers help expand opportunities for the community while gaining invaluable experiences themselves.
Description of location and leisure:
During your free time as a volunteer at the CYA Learning Center (CLC), there are plenty of opportunities for leisure and exploration. Nearby tourist attractions such as Teuk Chhou, Bokor National Park, Rabbit Island, and others offer stunning natural beauty and exciting experiences to discover on your free days. Since CLC is located in an open, remote area, you can also spend your downtime interacting with local people, teenagers, and children. Engage with the community by organizing fun and creative activities that foster meaningful connections. Bring along your flexibility and imagination to make the most of these unique opportunities for cultural exchange and personal growth.
Description of accommodation and food:
At CYA Learning Center (CLC), you will stay at the volunteer house located at the heart of the center. The accommodation is simple yet comfortable, with essential amenities including a mattress, blanket, and pillow provided for each volunteer. The house is equipped with several showers and toilets to cater to the group’s needs, ensuring a practical and convenient living environment. Meals will be prepared by volunteers on a rotational basis, offering a chance to collaborate while experiencing Cambodian culinary traditions. The dishes feature fresh, seasonal ingredients sourced from the local market, showcasing the authentic flavors of Khmer cuisine. This arrangement not only meets basic needs but also fosters teamwork, cultural immersion, and a sense of community.
