Project : Embark on a Temporal Voyage: Help transform a Village into a Medieval Fair! Now in its 29th year, the Souvigny Grand Site association is organising this fair, which attracts over 30,000 visitors every year. For 9 days, the village is transformed into a living spectacle of Troubadours and Saltimbanques. Amateur and professional troupes perform on stage. International work camps are also set up to help create the event and share the traditions of French medieval culture. Discover the variety of stands and themes: music, theatre, juggling, fire artists, tightrope walkers, birds of prey and horses, craftsmen at work, living camps, blacksmithing, cooking, tents and much more. Join us as we bring the past back to life and create unforgettable medieval memories!

Work : Immerse yourself in the medieval adventure by working with the team of local volunteers: setting up, manning the stalls, cooking and helping to make the fair a success! This job combines technical skills, physical stamina and organisation. You'll help set up and take down stalls, tents and marquees. As a visitor guide, you'll help with signage, traffic management and route planning. Manage the general logistics of the fair, including cooking and clearing up. Run stalls such as the refreshment stand, the crêpe stand and more. Please note: the first and last weeks will be particularly physical, with heavy lifting and busy days. Take up the challenge and live this unforgettable medieval experience!

Leisure activities : Leisure time is organised collectively. During the second weekend you will work and enjoy the activities of the fair, so you can discover the area mainly on the last week. The main leisure will be right next to you, as you can participate for free on the concerts, workshops and multiple shows and parties organized during the festival.

Description of work:

A small welcoming town, a green municipal team, a pleasant living environment in the heart of Auvergne, for a nice workcamp in the heights!

The municipality of Saint-Germain-Lembron values the traces of its past, by safeguarding the historical heritage still present. It recently discovered an old dovecote (pigeon house), a small stone tower that appeared when a building with which it was intertwined was destroyed!

Last summer, an international work camp was organised to restore two facades of the dovecote, using a traditional manual lime masonry technique that is as environmentally friendly as possible: two facades therefore remain to be completed for this new 2024 work camp. You will spend about 30 hours a week on this site, working alongside a technical leader : removing the old coat using chisels, sledgehammers and metal brushes and repointing the joints between the stones with a natural coat made of lime and sand. Your involvement and that of the group will enable us to obtain a beautiful "exposed stone" finish for the dovecote.

You will be working high up next to the pigeon house, on scaffolding. If you suffer from vertigo, this is probably not the best workcamp for you! If you are not afraid, working in heights is generally a very pleasant experience and allows you to enjoy a beautiful panorama.

Description of location and leisure:

Saint-Germain-Lembron is a small town of 2000 inhabitants, located next to the town of Issoire. It is crossed by several rivers such as the Lembron, hence its name. Its medieval church, its atypical fountains and its small castle allow it to preserve a heritage of typical Auvergne character.

You will have unlimited access to the gymnasium in front of your place of living, to organise sports activities (badminton, football, volleyball, basketball, gymnastics...). The municipality will ask local associations to help you discover the region. The programme for your free time includes hiking on the volcanoes, swimming in lakes and rivers, initiation to pétanque or participation in concerts and local festivals.

Meeting Point and Time: The meeting point is at the train station of LE-BREUIL-SUR-COUZE (63) at the end of the afternoon. Description of accommodation and food:

You will be accompanied by two camp leaders throughout your stay.
You will stay at the Centre Jeanne d'Arc, in the village, about fifteen minutes walk from the site. You will sleep in two rooms on large gymnastic mattresses (men and women separated). You will have a fully equipped community kitchen, showers and toilets, a large room for collective life and a terrace where you can sit in the cool shade of the trees. The site is closed and will be reserved for your group.

The group will be sharing the cleaning chores and preparing meals together. The budget will be allocated to the group leader and you will participate in the preparation of meals, prioritising products from the market and local producers. Wi-Fi is available in the campsite. You will be hand washing your laundry or there is a launderette in town (for a fee).

Short remarks for the project:
Bring work clothes, walking boots and a backpack. Bring warm clothes for outdoor evenings and a sleeping bag. You can also bring recipes from your home country, musical instruments and games. You will get around Saint-Germain-Lembron by foot, car and by minibus. On the last day (23/08), the departure time is usually set in the morning.

Project : After over 10 years of archaeological excavations and development, the Vallauria Mine is now open to the public. The imaginative work to create a guided tour displaying the mine's treasures is a big step in our journey. We plan to continue and develop this exceptional historical and geological site.
The project with young volunteers follows the expansion of the guided tour to include the old medieval works. We want to highlight characteristic elements of mining work to explain and reveal its particularities and richness. This work will give volunteers and visitors a better understanding of the largest mining site in the Southern Alps.

Work : You will work on expanding the guided tour in the area of the old works and enhancing an extraction chimney in this sector. You will control and direct a water flow to work dry, cleaning the rock and debris hindering the construction of a wall. Then, you will select suitable stones, prepare and transport the necessary cement for construction. Finally, you will clear stones, arrange spaces and clean different parts of the mine to facilitate visits. This work does not require specific qualifications and will be supervised by a technical supervisor. You will work underground 4 days a week, from 8:30 am to 12 pm and from 2 pm to 5:30 pm.

Leisure activities : In addition to the weekend, one day of the week will be dedicated to discovery and animation activities. You will have the opportunity to explore the mountain environment (fauna, flora, hiking, etc.), participate in sports activities and engage in animation sessions on the living site or in the surrounding towns to meet the local population.

Your responsibilities will include beach cleaning, aimed at collecting plastic and wood debris while ensuring the preservation of flora and fauna. Additionally, you'll have the chance to contribute by painting a wooden chalet and learning how to construct insect houses.

Preignan is situated in the South of France, within the department of Gers, at the heart of Occitanie. Positioned centrally in a rural area near Auch, this small village boasts a rich historical background.
Dating back to the Gallo-Roman era, Preignan showcases remnants of its past, including a Gallo-Roman villa perched atop the ridges. At the heart of the village stands a Romanesque church, likely erected on an ancient Merovingian burial ground.

The Rambert mill, also known as the Hydroberge, stands as a historic and emblematic monument in Preignan. Much of your volunteering will revolve around this location. The Hydroberge serves as a welcoming space, housing a community café and hosting various cultural events throughout the year, such as concerts, conferences, and practical workshops.
The area is celebrated for its rich heritage and gastronomy. During the summer months, the place comes alive with numerous festivals, concerts and events.

The area offers a prime opportunity to delve into France's historic past, maintaining a robust regional identity. Explorations can lead you along the paths of Compostela and to various archaeological sites, such as the Gallo-Roman villa of Seviac, which has hosted international construction projects.

Inside a lovely little French village, the castle of Montaigu le Blin is an impressive medieval fortress, classified as Historical Monument. It is located on the top of a hill, overlooking the countryside. Since 2002, volunteers have been participating, every summer, to the restoration of the castle. These last years, the fortress has regained its beauty! Since the 80s, volunteers come every year to restore and protect the castle. These last couple of years, volunteers restored the castle walls using traditional masonry techniques and developped the medieval vegetable garden at the bottom of the Lord's tower. This year, it's your turn to live an experience back in time!


Description of work:

Participate to the protection and enhancement of this breathtaking heritage! Within the castle, you will realize various works of restoration of walls (ramparts, towers) using traditional techniques and help maintain the vegetation (clearing bushes, etc.) as well as many other varied tasks. There are no special skills required for the work, it's just an opportunity to learn.
Beyond this work, you will reflect together on sustainable development using traditional techniques in the restoration of the fortress, but also in the daily life of the group. Campleaders will guide you along the project. You will also take part in the touristic activities of the site by welcoming the visitors (tourists and local inhabitants) in the castle and explain the work, show the progress you have been doing the last few weeks! Protecting this piece of heritage takes time, and a lot of energy. Come contribute to its rebuilding !

Montaigu-le-Blin is located in the French Bourbonnais area, 30km North from Vichy and 90km North from Clermont-Ferrand, in the French Auvergne region. It is a countryside rich with historical heritage, which you will be able to discover by visiting a few of the numerous castles and medieval cities, by hiking, going by bike or canoeing, according to what the leading team and the weather can propose. The inhabitants of the village are used to welcome volunteers from all over the world come every summer. You will pick up bread from the innkeeper Didier, ask for eggs on a Sunday evening to Monique, the weather the next day to Jean-Pascal, show your progress to Jean Louis who is passionate about the castle, you will feast with the fruits and vegetables offered by the local gardeners...and so much more!
The campleaders will prepare games and activities for the group but will also encourage you to propose and build your own activities according to your desires. Bring ideas and be creative !

International volunteers coming from our partners in other countries than France pay only 250€ of extra fees. Pay attention that there is no wifi access on the workcamp site, the telephone network is also quite low. However, the volunteers will be able to find public wifi in the village. Who needs internet during a Workcamp anyway ? The site is unfortunately not accessible to people in wheelchairs. Globally on our teenage camps, we chose to book half of the spots for French volunteers. Project: This year, we want to do some landscaping in Vaunières, a hamlet like no other!
In the heart of the Hautes Alpes, the association Les Villages des Jeunes has been managing, animating, and renovating the Vaunières welcome center since 1964! It is an old mountain hamlet, which has become a steppingstone place for local youth and adults, but also a place for French and international volunteers. Vaunières is a vacation spot for families, tourists, and groups, who come to enjoy the calm of the mountains and the dynamics of the place.
The workcamps that we organize at Vaunières with volunteers from all over the world allow us to reinforce the cultural diversity of our action and to make this site a place open to the world, where people of all ages and all social and cultural backgrounds agree to meet by working together and sharing a collective life.

Work: This summer's work will focus on the development of a landscape and the maintenance and restoration of a hiking trail.
The mound is located in the centre of the hamlet, a grassy area that is now hindered by stonework structures that are no longer useful. To reduce the impact of construction on nature, the association wishes to offer more natural spaces to the people it welcomes in the hamlet. You will then participate in the creation of a relaxing space in the middle of the village life for all the people who stay here. The structures are being demolished before the summer in order to be able to offer a work site for both landscaping and furniture. You will also be working on a hiking trail to allow you to discover the natural areas of the Hautes-Alpes, its fauna and flora by rehabilitating the trail (clearing, signposting, etc.) and providing educational support (information panels) along the way. You will thus be able to allow everyone to enjoy this hike again. A specialized technical supervisor will be at your side to provide you with advice and techniques. You will work approximately 30 hours per week in the morning.

Leisure activities: We will be in an exceptional location to discover the joys of hiking among the mountains, its rivers, its lakes, the farmers markets, and festive events organized in the surrounding villages (depending on programming). As a group, we will decide the activities and outings that we want to set up (subject to distance). Once a week, the welcome center generally organises a musical evening with homemade wood fired pizzas.

There is no WIFI but you will meet people from all over the world ! You will take turns to cook, so that we can taste several specialties ! Here, we are careful about what we eat. In order to reduce our environmental impact, we try to eat a maximum of local products and we eat meat twice a week. The daily life is organized together: organization of the menus (vegetarian, vegan and other specific diets are possible), shopping, activities, etc. Bring a mattress, a good comforter (the nights can be cold) and a pillow. Description of work:

This year, the project will focus on the development of the E U? 1/2U? 1/2descent of the apiE U? 1/2U? 1/2s wallE U? 1/2U? 1/2. An apiE U? 1/2U? 1/2s wall is a dry stone wall in which niches intended to accommodate hives were built. The work will consist of: - Cleaning and clearing the path - Scrape and clean the steps - Restoration of the steps at the top - Laying steps (using stones on the path) on the lower part. This workcamp will allow you to understand many techniques. The technical supervisor, accustomed to working with young international volunteers, will be delighted to share his know-how with you. You will work in an exceptional environment

Located in the heart of the Alpes de Hautes Provences department (04) and the Verdon Regional Natural Park, the village of Moustiers-Sainte-Marie has a rich built and natural heritage. You can stroll the streets of this village steeped in history and typical of Provence. You can also go up to the Chapel of Notre Dame de Beauvoir, a listed historic monument, which overlooks and offers an exceptional view of the village and the Verdon valley. You will meet earthenware artisans and visit the museum in the town. The residents, community volunteers and elected officials will come to meet you and will be happy to share their territory with you.

For the fourth time, Etudes et Chantiers will welcome you in the heart of Fosse Maussoin's park in Clichy-sous-Bois. This nature case is now listed ""Natura 2000"". It's a place to create, to experiment and to share where, every saturday afternoons, group activities are organised in order to cogitate and to open its eyes and ears !
Close to the forest, with en incredible view over cities, we find :
- an open greenhouse : to do seedlings and do swap
- a mandala and a pedagogical space : to learn how to cultivate respetfully
- an experimental space : to create and try some new methods about gardening
- a biodiversity space : to observe and make a special attention to insects
- a space to relax : to have a lunch, take a break or read
- the ""leaf-mossoin"" : to cultivate its own small garden.
Every summer, organisations are here to fill with life the park and propose doing activities !
During the last sessions, volunteers have done the greenhouse construction, the relax space, and the revegetation of a container. Thanks again to them for their work !

If you wish, you can participate in the construction of outdoor wooden games, a library and outdoor musical instruments to allow volunteers and visitors to the site to have fun and interact. You will be accompanied by a technical supervisor who will guide you through all the stages of construction and pass on their know-how in design and carpentry.

You will have the opportunity to work as a team and meet new people!

Vir'Volt stands for InteRnational VolunTeer Village (in French). For 3 years, the organisation has been based in the heart of nature, in the middle of a regional park. By welcoming young people from all over the world each year, the future village is being built around a number of different objectives: getting to know each other and learning from our differences, reflecting and acting together to protect the environment, but also having a positive impact on the surrounding area and people by putting solidarity at the heart of each of our actions. Vir'Volt also aims to become fully eco friendly and sustainable which is reflected in our campsite ; yurts and teepees as rooms, permaculture farming and gardening, water saving projects, reducing and reusing waste. This small village will become great without sacrificing or damaging the surrounding environment whilst always searching better and more eco friendly ways of living.

Description of work:

During this workcamp, you will help building a table with the trunk from the threes found in the nearby forest and a wooden shed to put in the pedagogical garden. Finally, you will participate in the construction of dry toilets.

Leisure activities: You will have the chance to enjoy the association's campsite and to discover the cultural and natural heritage of the region which is part of a natural park. You will also help organise some activities in order to meet and socialize with local young people. Other leisure activities will be organised collectively depending on the wishes of the group and the available budget. On day in Paris is scheduled.

The nearest terminal (train-, bus-, taxi station): La Ferté-Alais RER D station. Accessible from Paris via RER line D.
Meeting Point and Time: We will meet you at the association's site, a 15-minute walk from the RER station, on Monday 26th August from 3.30pm. From Paris stations (Gare de Lyon, Gare du Nord), take the RER D to Juvisy, then change to the RER D towards Malsherbes. If your luggage is too heavy and you would like to be picked up at the station by car, please contact the Vir'Volt team BEFORE you arrive (contact details can be found in the route description sent 3 weeks before the start of the project).

Description of accommodation and food:

You will sleep in collective Yurts, non-mixed on the campsite of the association. Please bring a sleeping bag with you. The campsite has separate bathrooms and showers, as well as a kitchen place. Food will be provided and cooked by the volunteers in turns.

This project should not be seen as a sightseeing trip to Paris. If you wish to visit Paris, you should do so before arriving or after the dates of the summer camp.

Description of work:

Discover the village of Avricourt, a small town typical of Picardie!
Come and participate in the renovation of the small church of Avricourt, one of the few churches in the area that survived the First World War.

In the continuity of the masonry work from the previous workcamps you will participate in the renovation of the main wall. You will carry out traditional masonry work on the large facade of the church: (re)jointing the walls, staking, repointing and even laying new bricks and stones. Part of the work may require climbing on scaffolding up to a certain height.

Description of location and leisure:

Avricourt is located 15 km from Noyon, in the North of Oise. In a central location in Picardie, you can visit Amiens, its cathedral and its “hortillonnages” (floating gardens), Compiegne and its imperial palace, Noyon and its historical centre. You can also hike in the surrounding countryside among cereal fields and small pasture valleys. If you are a nature lover, you could even discover the educational beehive with the school children and the beehives of a small local producer. A concert given by the local band in the church is planned the day before the departure of the volunteers.

Meeting Point and Time: The meeting point is scheduled at NOYON train station at the end of the afternoon on August 30. The exact meeting time will be given with the info sheet which will be sent at least 4 weeks before the start of the workcamp. From PARIS, you can take a train from PARIS - Gare Du Nord train station, regular departures are scheduled throughout the day (one train per hour). It is roughly a one-hour trip. The trains are open to booking about 4 months before the departure dates, accessible on the following website: https://www.sncf-connect.com/en-en/ If you are coming first by plane, remember that you will need some time to commute from the airport to the train station, therefore we recommend that you arrive early enough for you not to rush and have a stress-free travel.

Description of accommodation and food:

The village hall will be at your disposal as a place to live, which includes a well-equipped kitchen (community oven, dishwasher, big fridge etc.). Individual tents will be provided as well as a fallback solution in the village hall in case of bad weather. Please note that only one shower and one toilet will be available on site.

The group will be sharing the cleaning chores and preparing meals together. The budget will be allocated to the group leader and you will participate in the grocery shopping and in the preparation of meals, prioritising healthy products from local producers.

Description of specific requirements: EU citizens must bring with them a personal EHIC (European Health Insurance Card), and everybody must, in any case, bring their insurance certificate. If health issues arise on the project, volunteers will have to pay for it, and will then be reimbursed once back in their home country.

Please bring work clothes for the construction site and tight shoes. For the accommodation in tents please don’t forget your sleeping bag as well as a sleeping mat for more comfort. You can also bring with you specialties from your country, photos, musical instruments, in short what you like and want to share on this site, either with the local population or with the group! On the last day (14/09), the departure time is usually set in the morning.
