Project : From Luz-Saint-Sauveur, the Pyrenees Mountains are all yours. All the best sites of the region are easily accessible. Here, you will find the freedom to breathe in the open spaces, move, transcend yourself and enjoy!
The great writer Victor Hugo described Luz as a “charming old town… deliciously situated in a deep triangular valley. Three large sunbeams enter through the three openings between the three mountains. When the miquelets (Catalan militia men) and Spanish smugglers arrived from Aragon through Roland’s Breach, they saw a great light… They named this town light, or Luz.”
The municipality has been developing a large project to restore its local heritage, in particular with the organization of international workcamps. During 3 years we have been renovating old streets and washhouses. This year, we will take in charge the walking path!

Work : You will renovate the staircase and the route to access the walking path, using only natural materials (soil and stone). This work will be moderately physical and it will take place into the wilderness, in a wonderful environment.

Meeting point : Reach Lourdes Train Station then take a bus until Luz Saint Sauveur. (30 minutes)

Closest airport : Tarbes-Lourdes (45 km far), Toulouse (209 km far) or Paris (876 km far)

You will be accommodated indoors, in a building in the center of village. You will have access to showers and toilets. The group will share the cleaning tasks and prepare meals together.
You will prepare the meals in shifts and participate to the organization of the collective life (planning, cleaning, shopping, etc.). We will encourage the purchase of local and seasonal products.

Foreigners belonging to the European Union must bring with them a personal EHIC (European Health Insurance Card), and everybody must, in any case, bring their insurance certificate. If health issues happen on the project, volunteers will have to pay for it, and then be reimbursed once back in their home country.

Bring working clothes, gloves, and closed shoes. Bring a warm sleeping bag, as nights might be cold with altitude and we may go to sleep in mountains. To enjoy the mountain, bring your trekking shoes. For the brave ones who wants to take a dip in the river, bring your swimming suit.
Do not hesitate to bring activities from home such as photos, games, musical instruments, etc.

Leisure : Luz Saint Sauveur is in the Hautes-Pyrenees County, south-west of France near the pilgrimage city of Lourdes. It is close to the most beautiful natural sites of the Pyrenees Mountains: the Midi Peak, the Gavarnie circus, the Bridge of Spain, the Neouvielle natural park, and many lakes of the Pyrenees national park. The beauty and diversity of this county presents a great historical, architectural and environmental interest.
