Description of the partner organizing/hosting the project:

Faces Festival is a multicultural festival organised by a local cultural association. The festival gathers a large audience to enjoy music, dance and other cultural performances in beautiful Karjaa town.

Description of work:

The volunteers will organise a multicultural festival and take part in building, running, tidying as well as dismantling it after the festival has finished. The tasks will include all that is needed to build a festival and its area. The festival is fully organised by Finnish and international volunteer, we do all work on voluntary basis, by ourselves), that means preparing the area , building constructions, stages, putting up tents, painting and decorations, making all the signs, , cleaning, selling tickets etc. Be prepared to do physical work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Description of location and leisure:

Karjaa is a small town that has been merged with two others to form the town of Raseborg streching on the southwest coast of Finland. To the capital Helsinki is about 80 km, easy to be reached by train in about one hour and to the third biggest town of Finland, Turku, also about one hour by train.The town of Raseborg is small, some 30.000 inhabitants and located in a very beautiful, natural area with fields, forests and lakes. It is also the oldest cultural area of Finland, with some old very nice factory villages to visit. The area is strongly bilingual.

Description of accomodation and food:

Accommodation will be basic on mattresses on a local school hall. Some meals will be served, some meals will be cooked by volunteers.

Program: The organizer of the camp is Etnokult Culture Association which has been responsible of the organization of Faces Festival several years. Faces is a multicultural festival of music, art, solidarity and peace. The festival will be held 2ist time this year. The festival will be a celebration for all minorities and cultures. The international volunteers will be working together with Finnish volunteers to build and create the festival. The work includes cleaning, building, decorating and painting. The work is often heavy, slow and dirty, but also creative and social.

Work: The purpose of the camp is to participate in building and organizing a music festival. The volunteers will build stages, paint walls and decorations, organize things before the festival and help in selling ticket, guide traffic etc. during the festival, but will also get to enjoy the festival.

Karjaa
The festival area is in a small town called Karjaa. The area has beautiful scenary and interesting cultural heritage. It is situated about 80km from Helsinki.

Volunteers will be accommodated in simple floor accommodation at a school or youth house, sleeping bag and mat needed. Meals will be provided and partly cooked together.
