Project:
Saint Martin of Armagnac is a small, charming town in the western Gers department. Come and discover the village’s many little treasures, including the hilly, wooded landscape with its beautiful vineyards and the Gallo-Roman vestiges near a 16th-century castle. The Camasa Association advocates the preservation of the village’s heritage and in particular the restoration of one of its churches, the Church of Castagnet. This building is made of raw earth and magnificent stones from a nearby village.
Work:
You will consolidate the cracked parts of the church wall, and restore the damaged facades of the side chapel. You will clean the damaged parts and apply a coating.
Location and leisure:
In the heart of the Armagnac countryside, Saint-Martin and its surrounding villages offer unique architecture that you can appreciate in your spare time. Furthermore, three of the most beautiful villages of France are just nearby: Montreal-du-Gers (34km), Fources (39km) and Larressingle (39km). Saint-Martin d’Armagnac is close to the charming city of Eauze, capital of Armagnac, and also to Mont-de-Marsan. During the summer, you can enjoy various local markets, or relax at a nearby lake in the forest of Aignan.
Meeting point:
Lanne-Soubiran bus stop or Eauze train station.
Closest airport:
Toulouse or Bordeaux airport.
Accommodation and food:
You will be accommodated in tents around a soccer stadium with access to cloakrooms, toilets and showers. You will have access to a building with a kitchen for everyday use. You will prepare the meals in shifts and participate in the organisation of the collective life (planning, cleaning, shopping, etc.). We will encourage the purchase of local and seasonal products.
English
You may work on scaffoldings; you should therefore be able to work at heights.
Bring working clothes and shoes (waterproof if possible, in case of rain). Bring a warm sleeping bag and a good camping mat (for sleeping in the tent); nights can be chilly and wet. Tents will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own. Do not hesitate to bring activities from home, such as photos, games, musical instruments, food etc.
Foreigners from the European Union must bring their personal EHIC (European Health Insurance Card), and all participants must bring their insurance certificate. Project : You are interested in ecology, in sustainable development, in permaculture and in artistic activities. This is the right place!
We have been organising this international workcamp each summer for 14 years in partnership with the association “Un Pas De Cote”. This association develops cultural and artistic activities on the site of the Cultural Domain of Aubance in St Lezin. The renovation going on for more than 10 years has turn it into a lovely bucolic place, useful for a lot of activities (festivals, artistic workshops, children's camp). It used to be an important place for locals activities before the association started using it. This workcamp is rooted in the life of the village. You will meet both volunteers of the associations and the village’s inhabitants.
You will also experience the life under circus tent and benefit from the link with the other artistic activities of the association. You will decide of the daily organisation: the goal of the project is also to experiment group life in self-management (choice in the organisation of daily life, the budget, the leisure activities…). You can also experiment an eco-friendly lifestyle: local and bio products, composting, dry toilet …

Work : You will contribute to create a collective garden for the inhabitants by using the permaculture technics. Are on schedule: arrangement of the garden, nature observation and prune trees. You will also be involved in the constructions of insect hotels, ovens and solar dryers. The ambition of this workcamp is to go beyond its first technical purpose and improve your knowledge of permaculture. You need to be interested and motivated by these topics.
