Project : From the ironworker Blaise Charlut to the Saint Abbon monk, as well as Jean de la Reole, many historic figures will guide you through the ancient city, by passing though charming alleyways, washhouses and mansion-houses. Founded in 977, the city of La Reole has a rich history and culture. La Reole is in fact a fortified medieval town that developed around its priory church. It is located east of the department of Gironde, on the banks of the river Garonne, southeast of Bordeaux, which is the capital of department.
You will lead the project regarding the restoration of the “Hotel Peysseguin”, a mansion-house of the 17th century, belonging to the register of Historical French Monuments.
Work : The project is about getting involved in the enhancement of the courtyard of the ‘Hotel Peysseguin” by doing a little cleaning up, arranging and decorating the site. You will build and assemble several wooden structures, in the perspective of hosting the following camp which will take place in September. The structure will serve as a reception area also dedicated to public presentations about the “Hotel Peysseguin” project. Four more workshops will host each a medieval profession. Discovery and educational activities will be offered within the month of September in order to experiment one of these professions, in connection with the monument and its history.
La Reole is located east of the department of Gironde, on the banks of the river Garonne, 62 km southeast of Bordeaux and 19 km east of Langon, 6 km away of the Lot-et-Garonne department, 20 km southeast of the city of Marmande.
The largest part of the city is located on the right bank of the Garonne (northern part). The southern part of the city constitutes the hamlet of Rouergue.
Apart from the richness of both built and artisanal heritages, you will enjoy concerts, festivities and cultural events such as “le chemin des arts”, dedicated to pop art and graffiti.
Meeting point : La Reole train station (33).
You will be accommodated in municipality-owned buildings that include a kitchen and a group room. You will share the collective chores and prepare the meals altogether.
The group will share collective tasks, manage the budget along with the camp leaders, shop and prepare meals made of local healthy products as a team.
