Description of the partner organizing/hosting the project: Light on the town of Saint-Mihiel, which for several years has welcomed volunteers from all over the world to restore its built and natural heritage! The city has two exceptional sites:
The site of Les Roches, at the exit of the city, where seven massive rocks also called the "Dames de Meuse" are enthroned and then the Promenade des Capucins, composed of multiple terraced gardens, between which several paths and stairs wind their way.
At Les Roches, as at Les Capucins, many walls, sometimes in whitewash and sometimes in dry stone, add to the charm of the town. Since 2019, volunteers have been working on their restoration every year.


Description of work :
This year let's go to the terraced gardens of the Capuchins!
The aim is to rehabilitate this classified natural site, by restoring walls with two ancestral and environmentally friendly techniques: lime masonry and dry stone, for the greatest pleasure of tourists and locals!
For the masonry work, you will participate in various tasks: stripping the coating present on the wall, repointing the stones with a lime coating, raising the wall to its initial height, and laying copings on top.
For drystone work, you will learn to sort the stones according to their uses, to cut them and to arrange them to give a new youth to the wall.
You will have the chance to be accompanied by a professional wall builder: The opportunity to discover (or perfect) the techniques of masonry and dry stone!"

Description of location and leisure: The region is rich in history, landscapes, and culture, that's why you must come and discover it!
The small town of Saint-Mihiel is located in the valley of the Meuse, the river which crosses the town. It is a ""Small city of character"", a label that the city owes to its remarkable architectural and historical heritage.
Close to memorial sites and to Verdun, Saint-Mihiel is also conducive to the discovery of vestiges and the history of the First World War.
In the heart of a rural and green region, the location is ideal for discovering numerous hiking trails and outdoor activities. Right next to Saint-Mihiel, a National Center for Contemporary Art allows you to discover many works of art in the middle of the forest! And then in summer, many shows and festive evenings are organized in the region. Your facilitators and our partners will be happy to take you on a discovery of this exceptional heritage!"

Description of accommodation and food: Along with the other volunteers, you will be accommodated permanently, at the Saint-Mihiel youth hostel, a stone's throw from the work site. You will have rooms for 3 or 4 people equipped with beds and mattresses, with bathrooms, a large kitchen, and a relaxation area. Volunteers from previous projects are unanimous: the accommodation in Saint-Mihiel is very comfortable! In addition, the setting is bucolic, because the place of accommodation is close to a river.
All aspects of collective life (shopping, meal preparation, cleaning) will be managed between volunteers, based on a functioning that you will have decided together (eg: use of planning, formation of pairs, etc.). You will be helped in this task by a community life facilitator. The goal: for each volunteer to be an actor in their stay with respect for others and community life.

Triel-sur-Seine is based in the Regional Natural Park of Vexin, 40 km from Paris. For 20 years, the barge called "Safari" has been berth between heaven and Seine: this place is for inhabitants a place of meetings, gigs, associative and cultural events. It's a place for solidarity and helping too: a service is maintained about legal advice for migrants.

Your challenge, if you accept it, will be to give a new life to the barge with different works: cleaning, prevention of rust, undercoat application for protection, painting of the desk: the SAFARI barge needs you! So, if you accept the challenge, come, join the team and help us to restore the houseboat. Work will be directed by a technical supervisor, so even if you never used a paintbrush before, don't worry, you'll be there to learn!
The workcamp is essential to preserve the place and to keep going with welcoming people and cultural events.

By participating in this workcamp, you are acting for gender equality (SDG 5 Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment) and for sustainability (SDG 11 Sustainable Cities and Communities)

Close to Paris and Versailles you will participate in an original and alternative tour of the capital. You could also visit the Regional Park of Vexin, museums around, walk in the nature reserve of Saint Germain-en-Laye, discovering local associations, etc. You will plan your spare-time and leisure activities with the facilitators and the group of volunteers to allow everyone to participate to all the daily tasks and choose collectively activities and places you wish to discover. This workcamp is a great opportunity to meet people and discover a lot.

You've never had the opportunity to sleep on the water? Try the adventure and come live on the houseboat with the other volunteers. All aspects of collective life (shopping, meal preparation, cleaning) will be managed by the volunteers themselves, based on an operation that they will have decided together (e.g.: use of a schedule, creation of pairs, ...). The volunteers will take turns cooking for all the participants. This will be an opportunity to show your culinary talents, don't forget your recipes! They will be helped in this task by a group leader. The goal is for each volunteer to be an active participant in their stay while respecting others and community life. The organization will be done with the animation team which is there to ensure the smooth running of the stay. The team is composed of 2 people: a group leader and a technical leader. The objective of the workcamp is to gain autonomy and live a collective adventure by leaving one's comfort zone!

The project you will take part in consists in maintaining the ancient fortress built in the XIth century and the ruins of the medieval castle, dating back to the XIVth century: previously recognised as the property of the bishops of Metz. The purpose is to valorise the castle vestiges and to revive the place for local gatherings and events. Since 1996, the "Patrimoine Lorrain en Seille" association has been taking care of the old castle. Most of its members are retired and organise workcamps for volunteers to maintain the castle. Every year, the workcamps aim at guaranteeing the safety in the site, and open it to visitors eager to learn about the history of the castle. Information panels have been displayed in front of the curtain wall and the moats.

Your mission will consist in enhancing and highlighting the charming wall of dry stones :
- Remove vegetation of the parts of the wall on which the work will take place
- remove a fragile part of the wall, to reassemble it;
- Sort the stones and organizs the sorting in the workspace;
- learn how to choose the stones to raise the wall to its original height.

Nomeny is 30 minutes away from Nancy (city of the Duke Stanislas). In Nancy you may visit the legendary place named after him classified as one of the 5 most beautiful squares in the world! From there, Paris is only 1h30 hours away by high-speed train. Come and enjoy meeting with local people through our dynamic associations.

Indoor accomodation under a covered courtyard with adjoining sanitary and kitchen nearby (to be confirmed). Camp leaders and volunteers will pay attention to the food, provide local products and respect a balanced diet. Volunteers will cook in groups according to a planning that they will decide with the campleaders. Don't forget to bring your recipees and share your culinary talents with other volunteers !!
