Description of the partner organizing/hosting the project:

SEEDS volunteers will work in the area of Lónsöræfi or the Lón district, located in the East of Iceland, we will work in the municipality of Hornafjörður, in cooperation with some locals and the Environmental Agency.

    Description of work:

SEEDS volunteers will be mostly working on the hiking trails and walking paths in this beautiful mountanious area. The main tasks of the volunteers will be making and marking the walking trails on the different routes in the area. The work is physical and tools may include the sledge (sledgehammer) and crowbar.
Well maintained paths enable people to visit these amazing areas without damaging them and this important work also helps to improve safety for visitors. Additional tasks may be cleaning or beautifying the surroundings, like hand-picking garbage or collecting trash blown by the wind or brought by some visitors.
Some of the trails are located in an isolated area and the group may spend the day at the work site, therefore it will be needed to prepare packed lunches in the morning as we would return in the late afternoon back to the accommodation. The group may be split during the day to work in different locations.
The working day normally runs from 09:00 to 17:00 with breaks for lunch and coffee; however, please be prepared for some flexibility due to the nature of Iceland's changeable weather. No previous experience is necessary but the work is demanding and requires a good physical condition; it can at times be repetitive.
As it is outdoors work, volunteers shall be ready to adapt and be flexible with the working and free-time schedule, as depending on the weather, we may not be able to perform some of the tasks or activities planned.
Volunteers need to be prepared for working and walking in a raw landscape and sometimes cold weather. Be prepared to experience all kinds of weather and bring warm clothes as the tasks take place outside and it can get cold. Bring warm under-layers, waterproofs, walking shoes/boots, a good sleeping bag and gloves.

    ● 위치

    Description of location and leisure:

In the Lón District, the easternmost area of the Vatnajökull region, lie the Stafafell mountains, also called Lónsöræfi. They dominate the skyline east of the Vatnajökull glacier and comprise one of Iceland’s most extensive protected areas.  Besides the deep, rugged canyons, the landscape displays a wide range of colours owing to the presence of rhyolite and other colourful rocks. The numerous trails make this area perfect for hiking.

Description of the partner organizing/hosting the project:

Estonian people have lived in these lands since ancient times and ancient Estonians were known as a wise and mysterious people. They have been described as a nation of witches and sorcerers, and for good reason. While later periods of Estonian history can be learned about in a number of places across the country, the Viking Age (8th to 11th century) in our lands has not received much attention. The Viking Village is the result of one man s long-lived dream and the boldness and initiative of young enthusiasts. It all started in 2005, when the current chieftains of the Viking Village discovered an ancient and mysterious location on the scenic bank of the Pirita River, which could not have been a better place to build an ancient Estonian Viking village. The mission of the Viking Village is to give people a sense of what ancient life was like and to provide a place to relax and learn to know themselves as well as their environment. It is a place where you can take a break from fast-paced modern life and discover the Viking within yourself. The Viking Village is constantly being expanded and improved. Today, we have completed roughly half of the planned village, which means that there is at least as much to come More information: www.viikingitekyla.ee

    Description of work:

The main work is the keeping up of Vikings Village which involves cleaning, fixing, painting. Other part of work is helping with various event preparations such as decorations set up, putting tents and tables and other odd jobs depending on event. The work is physical.

Selárdalur in the Westfjords - Samúel Jónsson

    ● 주요내용

Description of the partner organizing/hosting the project:

SEEDS Volunteers will be working for the ninth year helping and supporting the restoration of the artworks of Samúel Jónsson, an Icelandic folk artist, who lived in Selárdalur. During his years of artistic production he produced unique concrete statues using sand from a local beach. Sadly, Jónsson passed away in 1969, leaving his creations without a caretaker. The land and the statues looked like they were simply going to be abandoned to nature in the out-of-the-way valley. However independent and government organisations have worked together with the support of SEEDS volunteers to preserve the site, which still remains for any visitors who would like to see the world through one Icelandic farmer’s eyes.
This year, SEEDS volunteers will be mostly working on different walking paths and trails in the area, in Brautarholt/Samúel Jónsson Museum and Uppsalir/the house of Gísli O. Gíslason, a museum in preparation.

    Description of work:

The association for the renovation of Samúel Jónsson's art museum in Selárdalur has been working on the restoration of Samúel's statues and buildings for some years. SEEDS volunteers will be working hand in hand with a well known sculpture artist; who has dedicated several years to this project.

    ● 위치

    Description of location and leisure:

This camp is located in Selárdalur on the west side of Arnarfjörður, in the Westfjords, which are among the most breathtakingly beautiful places in Iceland, with its high mountains and dramatic fjords cutting deep into the landscape. The Lonely Planet put the area on its top 10 list of regions in the world to visit in 2011.
Jónsson constructed at his farm in Selárdalur a folk art environment that consists of a sculpture garden and two built structures: a chapel and a museum with his paintings and other small works. The story related with the chapel says that Jónsson had made an altarpiece, he wanted to donate to the local church, an offer that was rejected however. So to provide a place for the artwork, Jónsson constructed his own chapel!
Samúel Jónsson could first fully devote himself to creative activities after his retirement as a farmer and then he began building palaces and sculptures. Samúel built a grotesque but charming resemblance to the lion’s fountain in the Alhambra-palace in Granada, Spain, and sculptures of seals and other animals as figures from Icelandic history like Leif the lucky who found America.
The distance from Reykjavik to Selárdalur is about 500 km (8-9 hours drive) via the Whale Bay tunnel; it is perhaps one of Iceland's most remote areas and a very peaceful and beautiful place to enjoy.

The nearest airport: KEF in Reykjavik,Iceland
The nearest terminal (train-, bus-, taxi station): Closest international Airport: Keflavík/Reykjavík (KEF). Bus station: Central Reykjavík (BSÍ).
Meeting Point and Time: Departure from Reykjavík will be at 8:00 am in the morning of June 3 from the SEEDS office. After the camp, we will arrive back to Reykjavík in the late evening of June 10.

    ● 주요내용

Description of the partner organizing/hosting the project:

The Awareness, Engagement & Action project is part of a series of camps organised by SEEDS in cooperation with different partners, where we try to raise awareness about current environmental issues and encourage the volunteers to take action! One of our main goals for the next few years is to contribute to a nation-wide project aiming at cleaning up the Icelandic coastline.
SEEDS works along and supports the Icelandic ministry for Environment and Natural Resources, the Icelandic Environmental organisation Landvernd, the Environmental Agency of Iceland, Umhverfisstofnun and other partners in order to draw attention to the issues of ocean pollution, plastic waste and to engage volunteers in cleaning up actions around the country.

    Description of work:

This camp allows volunteers to learn about global and local environmental issues through non-formal educational activities such as workshops, discussions, presentations and visits, as well as to contribute directly to environmental protection by joining outdoor coastal cleanup tasks in the shores and beaches.
Additional work will be undertaken in the area of our accommodation such as removing old fences dangerous to wildlife and visitors, as well as helping with renovation and maintenance of the house. We may also be marking some walking paths and, depending on the advance of the mentioned tasks, volunteers might do some forestry tasks in a small forest planted in the area, like trimming the vegetation or planting some trees.
This camp combines learning, sharing, hands-on work and fun. No previous experience is needed. Volunteers should prepare to share environmental issues from their countries and be ready to spend time outdoors, walking during the cleanups. Volunteers should be ready to adapt and be flexible with the work and free-time schedule, as depending on the weather, we may not be able to perform some of the planned activities.

    ● 위치

    Description of location and leisure:

The accommodation is located 1 hour drive south-east from Reykjavík. The house serves as an environmental-educational centre where visitors can have a look at an extensive stone and stuffed animal collection. The house sits under Ingólfsfjall, The Mountain of Ingólfur, with a view to Eyjafjallajökull where the volcanic eruptions started in March and April 2010.
The place is registered as natural Icelandic heritage; the nature, vegetation and birdlife is rich in variety and quantity. The volunteers can enjoy outdoor activities in a peaceful and beautiful location with a small stream and a pond nearby. Hiking trails with maps about cultural heritage can be found spread around the area, which is a popular attraction among foreign and local visitors.
The nearest town, Selfoss, only 10 minutes-drive away with 6500 inhabitants, is a centre of commerce and small industries where you find a geothermal swimming pool, shops, museums, cafés and bars.

Description of the partner organizing/hosting the project:

The Environmentally Aware & Trash Hunting project is part of a series of camps organised by SEEDS in cooperation with different partners. SEEDS works with and supports the Icelandic ministry for Environment and Natural Resources and the City of Reykjavík on a project to clean up the Icelandic coastline; the Blue Army, an organisation dedicated to the cause of coast cleaning; Whales of Iceland, an exhibition of life size models of whales and porpoises aiming at educating about their lives and human impact on their existence; SORPA, the organisation in charge of waste collection & management in the Reykjavík area and other local stakeholders.
This camp allows volunteers to learn about global and local environmental issues through non-formal activities such as workshops, discussions, presentations and visits, as well as to contribute directly to environment protection by joining outdoor cleanup tasks.

    Description of work:

These cleanup tasks may be arranged in partnership with the above mentioned organisations or organised solely by SEEDS. We aim to also involve the local community, so some of our events may be open to the public. We hope participants will learn how to plan and do their own trash hunting projects back at home. This project is based on similar activities around the world, where outstanding results have been achieved with volunteers. One of the two options below is also included in this camp as a hands-on volunteering activity day:
A day trip combining a visit to the Hellisheiði geothermal power plant, a trash hunt in the area; and the Hot River Hike, a hike up a valley filled with hot springs where one can bathe.
A day trip to the Reykjanes peninsula, combined with a coastal cleanup in the area.
All the activities are dependent on conditions such as weather and availability of our partners.
This camp combines learning, sharing, hands-on work and fun. No previous experience is needed. Volunteers should prepare to share environmental issues from their countries and be ready to spend time outdoors, walk medium distances during the cleanups, as during other activities and sightseeing. As a part of the project happens outdoors, volunteers should be ready to adapt and be flexible with the work and free-time schedule, as depending on the changeable weather, we may not be able to perform some of the activities (as) planned.

Project: Take part in the valorisation of a historic site at the heart of idyllic mountain landscapes! Join us and come discover l’Abbaye de Clausonne and its natural environment at 1140 meters of altitude!
It is in the 12th century that the Abbaye took shape. After multiple periods of deconstruction and reconstruction over the centuries, it became in the 20th an agricultural building, which was abandoned in the 1950s. It is in 1994 that the Abbaye of Clausonne association was created to conserve the vestiges of this exceptional architecture on an exceptional site. Since then, the association has wanted to make this place a ground of discovery, learning and knowledge.

Work: This year, we'll be continuing work on the stonework in the old sheepfold, so that in a few years' time it can be used as a cooking area, a tool shed, etc. You’ll also be working on the enhancement of the site and the old hamlet of la Péguière. All with the help of masons who will be on hand to pass on their skills! Mind you, it's a real workout for the arms and legs! The work involves 30 hours a week.

Leisure activities: Evenings and weekends are free for activities that you choose to organise together. You will be in an exceptional setting to discover the pleasures of mountain hiking, its rivers, its lakes, the farmers and producers markets, the festive nights organized in surrounding villages. In group, you will decide activities and discovery outings that you wish to set up. The reception center usually organizes one musical evening per week with homemade wood-fired pizzas.

    SDG: n°12 Responsible consumption

PARTNER : It’s been ten years that Lunaria and Agape are working side by side to create a space where people can meet in harmony. Agape International Ecumenical Centre is an important point of reference in Italian Protestantism, being for 70 years a place of education and development, theological exploration, political engagement, acceptance and validation of differences. A resident group still lives at Agape throughout the year. Agape was built after the Second World War as a sign of hope and reconciliation between people, thanks to the voluntary work of many young men and women. The dimensions of community and voluntary service remain fundamental. By joining this workcamp you will contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals: QualityEducation-SDG4 and GenderEquality-SDG5, two of the pillars of Agape mission.
PROJECT : Every year many people, with different ages and religious, cultural and political backgrounds, come to Agape to discuss and to be challenged, to get to know themselves and each other and to exchange experiences around a particular theme. The work camp will support the management and support the meetings on issues of political, social, cultural and religious interest. The center is volunteers-driven, and its management is in your hands.

WORK : The workcamp is an international experience, giving the volunteers the opportunity to meet young people from all over the world. In terms of communication, the main watchword at the Center is diversity and open-mindedness. This is your chance to discover different cultures, and ideas and exchange experiences. The work accomplished on each camp is very important, the volunteers themselves are the main reason for Agape is able to keep organizing more and more projects every year. Thanks to a group of people living there all year long (the so-called Resident group), but also to the ecumenical and international community coming to help, the center has an effect on its visitors' life. As a volunteer, you will be asked to work with the Resident Group. Every Resident has a sector for which they are responsible (kitchen, cleaning, bar, maintenance,... and so on), in which you will help them, and each of the Residents will be there to help you and support you. You will have 6-7 working hours per day. The Centre will organize every year's national camps in the place and the international group will work in parallel with the permanent residence to guarantee the running of all other project schedules. Volunteers will help in the following tasks: kitchen, meal service (tables and dishes), cleaning, maintenance, bartending, and babysitting.

    ● 위치

LOCATION AND LEISURE : Agape is in the Alps, close to Prali commune. Games, discussions, and outings can be organized during free time. Programmed activities (especially in the evening) are most of the time open to the volunteers, as long as they do not clash with work commitments. The place is beautiful but isolated, though you will stay together with many international participants attending the meetings of Agape.

Description of the partner organizing/hosting the project:

The municipality has been developing a large project to restore its local heritage, especially through international workcamps. For over 6 years the volunteers of Concordia and from the whole world have been renovating old streets, washhouses, fountains, and hiking trails.

    Description of work:

From Luz-Saint-Sauveur, the Pyrenees Mountains are all yours. All the best hiking sites, peaks and highlands are easily accessible. Here, you will find the freedom to breathe freely, move, broaden your horizons and enjoy!

Luz-Saint-Sauveur was a thermal hub for the noble and wealthy throughout the 1800s : the medicinal bathing sites attracted emperors, artists, intellectuals and more. Amongst the historical figures that often visited Luz was the French emperor Napoleon III (grandson of Napoleon Bonaparte) who had fallen in love with the town and surrounding mountains, he encouraged the development of the village throughout the 1860s. Today Luz probably has the best-conserved heritage from that era in France and elsewhere.

The great writer Victor Hugo described Luz as a “charming old town… beautifully situated in a deep triangular valley… When the miquelets (Catalan militia men) and Spanish smugglers arrived from Aragon … they saw a great light… They named this town light, or Luz.”

Your job will consist of the requalification of an old amphitheater nearby the post office. You will learn the art of masonry and revegetation techniques, to enhance the space and make it accessible for everyone. Throughout your whole stay, you will be accompanied by camp leaders, one being a technical facilitator who will teach you and help you master the techniques of traditional masonry.

This summer we offer you to participate in our new project called MATRIX . Camp participants will learn about different meanings of this word. Together, we will identify the ways how to improve the matrix of the modern world, how to become a better version of ourselves and how to develop our emotional intelligence. Camp participants will acquire life skills that they will need to create their own codes for personal matrices that will have power to change their life for the better. They are the smart matrices of our personalities, souls, love and success, well-being and happy life. Meetings with local and/or international professionals in the field will take place. Thematic photo and video contests for camp participants will be organized.

    Description of work:

Volunteers are responsible for the day activities in the camp. The work can be quite heavy, involving long working hours, requiring high level of commitment and responsibility. Working days are from Monday to Friday plus one duty Saturday; Sundays are days off except the one after arrival. The local participants are mainly youngsters from minority groups of Tallinn whose family s languages include Russian. Based on the previous year, we expect a number of kids and teen participants in one camp shift as up to 40. Volunteers will work in pairs facilitating and leading a smaller group of 10 - 12 children or less during the day and change the groups every 2-3 days.During the first three days of the camp right after arrival, volunteers will be given a training on the camp methodology and some time to prepare themselves to meet the kids/teens on Monday and further carry out their tasks in the camp. For this reason, it is important to arrive on time.
