Project and partners : The Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Education for Children has been designed to provide children in various daycare centers in Tanay, Rizal Province the opportunity to learn basic information about sanitation and hygiene. IGEEI is working with 19 day care centers in Tanay, Rizal province and developed a WASH Education Manual that could be completed within 10 days or shorter. The daycare centers are located in rural area not easily accessible and some facilities for children are limited. IGEEI is addressing these gaps steps by step but with the help of international workcamps it contributes in changing the attitudes and mindsets of students, teachers and parents on the importance of sanitation and hygiene.

Work : The volunteers will implement the WASH module already developed where suggested activities and key learnings are provided. WASH Education module utilizes participatory activities that are fun, creative and enjoyable for children age between 4-6 years old. Optimizing non-formal education strategies, the module allows integration of intercultural learning by introducing various activities and games for children to stimulate their imaginations and learn more about the international participant’s cultures and traditions.
International Workcampers will implement several activities each day in a rotating basis. This will allow all workcampers to experience facilitating the activities directly and building their confidence in public speaking and dealing with children. Each day, international and local workcampers will discuss strategies and activities each day as well as evaluating each day.

Tanay, Rizal
The airport of entry is Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Manila. One of the IGEEI local volunteer will meet the participants in the airport once the travel details has been provided. Due to the location of the project, we strongly suggest that we meet the volunteers in the airport and travel together going to the project site. Public transportation is a challenge in the Philippines.

Accommodations will be in the dorm type style with minimum of 4 people sharing in the room and maximum of 6 people. There will be common area for kitchen and toilet. Hot shower is not available and western seat toilet is available.
Three meals in a day will be provided (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner) in most cases Filipino food are provided. But participants will divide the tasks to prepare their food together and plan their meal properly with the given budget. This is a fun and exciting activities with assistance from the local participants.
Lunch in most cases will be packed in lunch boxes because participants will be in remote locations where the day care centers are located. Dinner venue may change from time to time depending on schedule but mostly hosted by one family in the community or where the participants is staying.

Leisure activities : The venue is in Tanay, Rizal Province approximately 3 hours away from Manila depending on traffic. Tanay is an upland rural area famous for hiking, caves and river natural wonders. During weekends participants will have their free time, they may decide to travel together in some places within Tanay. The location being an upland means there are no near beaches in the area. We recommend that they do this after the workcamp proper.

Please take note that free time is not covered by the participation fee. This can be shouldered by the participants themselves, we recommend that the participants bring at least 10,000 Pesos (200 USD) as their pocket money.
