PROJECT PROFILE
Sigomre Small Home for the Physically Challenged Children was established in 1996 by Bishop of Kisumu Diocese and the community. The purpose of its establishment was to provide basic needs such as accommodation, education, food, shelter and health care for disabled people within the surrounding communities. The community at Sigomre donated land for construction of the facility. The project has been supporting many people who are physically and mentality challenged thus empowering them socially and economically to become self reliant and fully integrated members of their communities. Currently the home hosts 52 people with disabilities of which 28 are males and 24 are females. They are aged between 3-25 years. The home has boarding, primary and vocational training sections, which are located within the project site. The vocational training section provides skills like tailoring and carpentry mainly to those who fail to complete their education.
