BACKGROUND

Art and Music Festival is held on August every year at Poo Can Ban Leng Clay House where it organizes the festival. The project organized for the charity to pay the transportation for the volunteer to teach the art and music to the children in the schools. The festival has been held for 7 years by Vinij Vichittan (Aor) who is the famous artist in Thailand. In the first year, there were not more than 100 participants, but it increased step by step. This year, the 8th year of the festival, the organizer expects that the participants will join the festival more than 1000 people and the musicians will rotate to play the music from afternoon till the next late morning. Moreover, there is an important art auction activity of Vinij Vichittan in the festival.

The Art and Music Festival as know that it is a warm festival with friendship from everyone because everyone comes to join by one goal that is a charity for the children.

In this year, the festival will be started on 30th August 2019 that it is Vinij Vichittan birthday. The festival will be organized for 2 days during 30th – 31st August. On the first day is the art day with chilling music, and the second day is the music festival all day only.

Ban Poo Can Ban Leng is located among the hills. On the way to the house, the participants will touch the atmosphere with the pure natural from the forest. Moreover, there is the self – sufficient learning centers such as clay house, the agricultural field, and the art. The participants will impress, and come to join again in the next year.

WORK

Teaching the art as an assistant – The volunteer will be an assistant to teach the art in the schools in the first week. The volunteer will create recreation activity such as, play the game, and sing the song, etc.

Preparing the festival – In the second week, the volunteer helps the organizer to prepare the area for the festival such as creating the activity booths by bamboo, the clay house, the place for taking the picture, the big stucco sculpture, and the conceptual art, etc.

Performing on the stage – the volunteer group should prepare a performance to introduce the background of the group of the volunteer.

Farming work – the volunteer will learn agriculture, self-sufficient.

TRANSPORTATION

Bus – Bangkok Bus Terminal (Southern), the volunteer can take the bus or minivan by Bangkok

– Chom Bueng, or Bangkok – Ratchaburi way from Bangkok Bus Terminal (Southern), Bangkok to Suan Phueng District Bus Stop, then the host will pick the volunteer up to the project site.

ACCOMMODATION AND FOOD

Food – The volunteer will turn to cooking with local Thai volunteers. You are welcome to bring some ingredients from your country for cooking international food.

Accommodation – The volunteer will stay at the clay house (Stay together in one room, separate male, and female) and tent.

The blanket and pillow will be provided. Please bring your sleeping bag.

WHAT TO BRING
- Teaching clothes, every shirt needs to cover shoulders, trousers for men and skirt for women, the skirt should cover your knees. Important! No vest or shorts while teaching.
- Working clothes for Farming, Building cry house
- Brogue shoes or canvas shoes, no slippers when teaching. Sandals with socks can comply. - - - -- Medicine as necessary
- Mosquito repellant
- Your traditional music, costumes, food and drink for the intercultural night (cooking and performance)
- Materials or sources (brochures, maps, souvenirs, pictures, flags, or handicrafts to introduce about your country and culture).
- Sunglasses and sun-block cream
- Toilet paper (you can buy it at the shop in the village)
- Any interesting materials such as CDs, ideas for games/activities for locals. Motivation, good humor, and communication skills
- Raincoat or umbrella (during the rainy season)

LEISURE ACTIVITY

There are many beautiful tourist attractions in Ratchaburi province. The weather in August is approximately 23 – 31 degree Celsius with some rain.

Damnoen Saduak Floating Market in Ratchaburi is one of the most popular floating markets in Thailand. Every day many Thai and foreign tourists travel here to shop, eat, and absorb the atmosphere of Thailand water markets that have been like this for over a 100 years. Klong Damnoen Saduak Damnoen Saduak is the straightest and longest canal in Thailand. The canal was built on royal initiative as King Rama IV of Thailand wanted to link the Mae Klong River with Chinese river ways to support transportation and trade. It took over 2 years to dig, and was eventually finished under the reign of his successor King Rama V. The canal is 32 kilometers long and has more than 200 branches. Damnoen Saduak Floating Market’s popularity grew to new heights in 1971 – 1973 when the river was full of farmers on their boats selling their wares. And that is the way trade is performed in this area until todays.
