참가 전 준비와 마음가짐
In 2012, Aug, 04, I got that feeling was exciting and nervous, when I was in there where was Vermont to do voluntary service. But, when I met Rose who was our co-leader and every staffs, I realized that it was an idle fear. They provided me almost everything that I could get comfortable feel such as my house. For instance, they gave fresh food each day and our Co-leader who was Rose spoke very snugly to everybody. At that time, no one talked complaining to her and all staff.
First day, on Aug 05, I could meet colleague, they were from Europe, Japan and Taipei. First time, when I saw them, I expected that they might be good and cool people. Sure enough, they were really positive persons. We greeted to one another after that we got a dinner which was made by Rose. It was so palatable and special. At dinner time, we ate pizza but it was different from general form pizza.
Before I took part in this camp, at that time, personally I thought that it would be very hard time for me but when I ate dinner, gradually I started that changed my mind.
Next day, we started our task which was breaking barn and piling board. When we worked that, we astonished because that barn was very old that was still there from 1895 to now. This being so, we little hesitated to break the barn but we did it. When we broke the barn, we had a lot of complication which means my friend, Liviou, who was from Italy, got a wound that tried sawing a wood board and also I had sprained my ankle etc. every day, we could feel painful and unpleasant but we considered that our job was worthwhile activities. Usually, our work finished at 4:00 pm and then we often went to lake to swim which was so beautiful and pure. As if it was like heaven I regarded.
Out there was extremely hot and cold which means at noonday was too comparatively hot and at night was too relatively cold. Therefore, I wouldn’t adapt that atmosphere well. Anyway, One day, when we finished our task and went out to our area, we visited Maple Factory which made maple beer, soda, and syrup etc. I could see whole process to make a product of Maple. It was unforgettable experience. To watch making a maple syrup was I’ve nerve seen before in my life.
When I was in Vermont, I could join local festival that was ‘BOORAK’ which was kind of plant. If we visit Vermont, we can find almost everywhere. I heard that it could use a medicine for our body. So, in that town living people liked it. That festival is held every year by local people. Anyway It was huge experience for me.
Each day, I enjoyed our time and job in Vermont. One day, when we finish our work, we had a chance to go to master craftsman who made a chair, desk and instrument. All kind of thing was used by wood. Specially, Maple wood was used by him. From my point of view, everything was masterpiece. At first, I was embarrassed a little bit because I didn’t know that how could he make it? By the way unfortunately I couldn’t take a picture about making stuff that he made a chair using maple wood. He didn’t want to come out his own skills.
We had a really good time during a voluntary service in Vermont. We piled up a lot of positive remembrance. The last day night, we prepared campfire to say goodbye and ate turkey food that was really awesome. At that time, I was almost cried because my feel was regretful that we had to go separate ways. I thought that we got very a short time for us. So, there were someone who wanted to stay more days and someone who wanted to come back there once again.
For the night, it was such a beautiful time and marvelous a night sky. Now, I miss that time.
