미국에서 특별한 경험 만들기
BRINGING THE WORLD TO NEWPORT
참가 전 준비와 마음가짐
Before I go to California as an exchange student, I wanted make special experience in USA. Actually, I did participate one workcamp in Tours, France one year before, so this was my second time.
But the location was pretty big problem for me because I had to take two buses to get there. I took airplane from Incheon international airport to New York, and then spend 10 days with my friends there. On August 2nd, very early in the morning I went to bus terminal and took a bus to Boston and transferred another bus to Concord station, New Hampshire.
One woman was there to pick me up, it takes about 1 hour to get the school which I work, and there were 4 members of our camp. In the night, other participants gathered.
We are 11 people from 9 different countries. 2 Koreans, 2 Spanish, 2 Chinese, 1 German, 1 Azerbaijan, 1 Russian, 1 Italian, 1 French. We had ice braking time.
The day after arrival, we go to trekking at Lollins Park State. The view was so nice and we had lunch at the top of the mountain.
First working day was little bit unorganized so I was nervous that what's going on here and what kind of result can we make with our students from Newport Middle High School.
But as time goes by, we find respective roles and we do better and better with our students.
Every group had to present by using Powerpoint about their country, so I talked about Korean culture and location, food, season, and our capital Seoul.
And one day, me and Daeun made Korean traditional dishes for all of international teachers and American students. We made Bibimbap and Bulgogi. They all ate this very well and said it was so delicious so we are very satisfied with what we made.
The other activities like meeting community people around Newport and doing funny things for example, canoeing and visiting city hall. These were so great we could make unforgettable memories.
Even after about 2 months I still keep in touch with them. Camp was little bit hard and we did so many things during 2 weeks, looking back it on now, it was great experience.
