ERVITA MANOR I
참가 전 준비와 마음가짐
I decided to participate in the workcamp becuase my seniors had told me their experience and I wanted to do something meaningful during my first summer break as a university student.
Before I took off for Estonia, I did three things. First, I checked the InfoSheet that the workcamp site provided because it contained all the important information that you needed to know such as when and where to meet your fellow volunteers and workcamp leader, the overall weather in Estonia, what volunteer work you would be doing, and so forth. Secondly, since my workcamp only involved physical labor, I signed up for foreign insurance, just in case. Lastly, since my friend and I were participating in the same workcamp, we decided to sightsee Tallin, the capital of Estonia, before starting the volunteering work. So we booked a hostel and airplane ticket two days before the workcamp.
What I expected from the workcamp was that I experience all the different types of cultures that each volunteer brings with them.

현지 활동 및 특별했던 에피소드
In the workcamp in Estonia, we mainly did reconscruction work on a house that stood behind the manor of the owners who took us in. Mostly we hauled bricks, made cement, made the foundation of a guest room, cleaned rubbish, and other physical work.
From 9 AM to 4 PM, we worked in the scorching sun, working with shovels and excavators. So after a hard day of work, on sunny days, we would head down to the lake that was a walking distance away and either sunbathe, swim, or read. After we had dinner, we would all sit down on the patio in front of the manor and talk, play card games, and drink. This pattern went on until the end of the workcamp. I particularly enjoyed the time when all of us would just sit down and talk and play games. I enjoyed the atmosphere and the feeling that this time radiated, and because it was after a hard day's work and the sweetness of this time to just lay back and relax doubled. Through this time we would get to know each other and exchange jokes and laughs. It was a definite fun and worthwhile time.
The family of the owner of the manor and who took us in was very kind and fun to be around. They were very generous. As for the local residents, they were also very kind and friendly in many ways. The volunteers had their own colors, and they were all very fun to be around with.

참가 후 변화와 느낀 점, 하고 싶은 이야기
During the hard physical labor, I felt to the bone the need to study. I made a promise to myself to study harder when school started again. Through this workcamp, I learned about the differences of cultures that I did not know about.
I urge those who are hesitating or taking an interest in the workcamp to sign up right away. During the summer or winter vacations, students usually line up for part-time jobs, study, meet friends, and so forth. However, I believe this workcamp is excellent for a breath of fresh air. You get to experience and make new memories as well as friends. The workcamp is great for not only those interested in volunteering work or making friends, but taking a breather and taking time to focus on yourself and learn things about yourself that you never knew. All in all, it was a magnificant experience for me and one I will never forget.
